Background
Victoria was not like any other child, after the passing of Halley’s Comet in 2061 she became ailing, she couldn’t go out and play with other children, she was too weak. Stuck at home she still nursed hope about her future despite the severity of the SURGE, dogs would bite her, cats would hiss at her sight, she stopped smiling as people kept being horrified by her fangs. Once she bitten someone, only the quick response of an ambulance saved their life. Her parents kept her at home, to no avail as she could feel the ruckus of the neighborhood. At night, she would look outside, she wasn’t afraid of the dark, there was no darkness at least to her. Cloistered in the family house, she became unruly, isolation was harsh, things had to change. There was a glimmer of hope though, all those changes, that no one was understanding, sparked a great deal of curiosity in Victoria’s mind. She wanted to know more about this, about her own body and what made her different from others. When she was ten, her parents decided to send her to a special school where she needed education, and a little nascent order of doctors offered help, scientists of different branches tied to the medical sector who were also carrying out operations in diverse areas around the world. They could observe her case and provide much needed education.
When she arrived at the Spital, she knew that harsh time would come, her head was shaved, her skin treated with chemicals causing burning sensation and reddening the eyes before being covered with chalk. She hadn’t met any teacher, yet she learned her first lesson : hygiene. She receives a neoprene suit and a data-chip, and a year to get back on her lack of literacy. During the day, she had to clean the room, sort stuff and do a whole lot of other chores, sometimes she would have to serve as a test subject to observe the effect of the SURGE, at night she had to study the book, having to learn how to read and write herself. As the overseer said, “Stupidity is a disease we cannot cure.” Others were failing one by one, too tired to carry on, not learning fast enough. After the first years, she had to prove she knew how to read and write, she passed the test and received new books, based on medicine, first aid and several important domains. Another year of study with the same regimen and she would become an orderly, and she’ll receive her first medical assignment.
Not so long after turning twelve, the fourth semester of study ended, and she passed the test. With the theoretic basis, she had to learn the practice. She was brought into the clinic, she saw blood, was horrified, but the stern words of her teachers put her back on her trail. She learned how to change bandages, assess patients for triage, and put broken limbs in splint. For two years she learned the harshness of the field medicine and its importance, one couldn’t study the human body without knowing how it felt to tend to its wound. While many other young orderly would stay for four years, her bright mind brought attention and she was able to pass to the next echelon. She was now considered as a real medical student, she was free to roam the complex, the different laboratories to question scientists and doctors. She would also receive her first real lesson, and the stern indoctrination. Mankind's three worst enemies, the Infection of the HMHVV, the Peril of Bugs Spirit and the Taint of the Toxic magic. Another year passed and Victoria settled for the Biotechnology specialization.
While she was working in the laboratory one day, late at night, she felt weird, watching from everywhere in the lab. She waved off the sentiment at first but then it became a recurring feeling. The weight on her mind got heavier and heavier to the point she lost sleep and she couldn’t stop but to watch over her shoulder at all times. Until she passed out during another night of late study, she opened her eyes and realized she was somewhere else, she recognized her surroundings, she was still in the Spital, she could access the computer she was working on, she managed to return to her body, stood up in awe. Victoria went for the only person she could entrusted with the secret, Alexander Thornburgh, her teacher and mentor. After some talks, she offered herself as a test subject, at first she saw technomancy as another curse that would wreck her existence, yet the experimentation proved her wrong, she could enhance her tools, work faster and better. With that newfound gift she managed to be one of the youngest people who ever graduated from the Spital at the age of seventeen. She got her affectation on the biotechnology department for good and started to work on diverse projects to induce compatibility with bioware. Victoria coworkers welcomed her warmly and for once she felt at home.
While the ethics were looked at with high standards, self sacrifice was not frowned upon and Victoria grew an obsession to succeed, she always felt like an outsider and now after years of rigorous learning practice she had a chance to prove her worth. Working over day and night on Long Haul, she wouldn’t stop, never willing to get some time off even to visit her parents that she hadn’t seen since her introduction to the Spital. For years she’d overwork herself that way, until she made a real breakthrough, isolating a specific part of genetic structure she managed to make herself more compatible with the bioware via the use of specific treatment that she tested on herself without too much preliminary testing. The rumors of her discovery and devotion spread quickly and out of the wall of her laboratory.
Two problems arised soon however, first, the breakthrough wasn’t as promising as she thought while it worked with her genes, she was a SURGE and her genome was highly changed and further testing of her discovery proved to have too little effect. The second was Fame. Soon, she received tons of calls from diverse medically specialized corporations making offers to join them. While at first it was comforting for Victoria to finally be recognized for her work and all the sacrifice she made this far in her life. Caution quickly stepped in, people could steal her research, use her and she knew the rumors about many medical corporations.
Yet, in the end she didn’t get a choice, one day she got extracted by Proteus AG and assigned to a project akin to the one she conducted back in the Spital. Vega reluctantly accepted to work with Proteus, and asked for conditions to be set, she would not work for them if she wasn’t the project leader and any consultation of the data of the project had to be approved by her. The handler assigned to her accepted but never really respected their hand of the deal, disappointed by the state of her life, Victoria used her gift of the technomancy to leave on some part of the matrix, pleas for help.
After years of effort, she managed to get her first ties in the Shadow and decided that delving into them wouldn’t be worse than pursuing her work with Proteus, arguing that she overworked herself for too long, she managed to get a lessened work weight and now could hope to start the writing of a new page of her life.
Narrative Significant Qualities
Surged (Low Light Vision, Fangs, Natural Venom, Astral Hazing, Critter Spook, Symbiosis, Impaired Attribute Strength) “Research Notes #1453, Docteur Victoria Vega. The Sudden Unexplained Recessive Genetic Expression provoked by the passing of Haley’s Comet had produced great change in the genetic structure of my body. My eyes are fully acclimated to the night, due to alteration of the spectrum perceived…Isolation of the said genes would take time however…The most notable change though are those damn fangs, while they make me look like a vampire, the interesting thing is that i appear to have developed venom sac. And testing of the venom proved that the potency is high, the compound is deadly and provokes paralysis on the subject. A good thing to weaponize for self-defense purposes.
While those beneficial changes are interesting, I've noticed that I'm having some weird sensation, connection with my house. Moving up to work with Proteus was harsh for my brain. The second weird point is that mage says that i’m a walking astral phenomenon, too bad i’m not awakened to study the effect of this. A small point to note is also the hatred of animals for my person, maybe some pheromones but it’s not a priority in my research on the change in my genome. The most problematic issue has been the change to my muscle mass, it seems that I will never be able to recover from those damages.
College Education : “After consultations of her pier. Madame Victoria Vega, is granted the license to exercise medicine.”
Trending Scientist (Biocompatibility, Black Market Pipeline for Bioware, Sinner Limited with Proteus AG, Global Fame, Day Job 10 hours of Medical Research) : “Personal Log #1492 : Where to begin…Years ago I thought I'd just be a scientist working with those who taught me the most important science to mankind, that I'll serve a more noble cause than the one of the Corporation. Not that I disregard the method of Proteus, they made progress in a lot of domains by burning some steps and making some arrangements with ethics that I'm used to making as well. Yet now I can't walk outside without some people asking me if I'm the real Docteur Vega. I don’t have time to lose with the intricacies of politics and promotion or other corporate bullshit like that. Good thing I can pull some strings and get material to alter my body furthermore at least…
Technomancer : “Personal Log #1515 : Technomancy is weird, I never was really able to fully grasp how I'm doing all of this, connecting with the matrix with my sole brain rather than using a commlink. Using sprites helped me a lot during my research to push some tools over for the sake of speeding some process, yet I feel like I'm only scratching the surface of this part of me. Never met a fellow technomancer and I can't really trust anyone here in Proteus with that information…I’ll need to work on it on my own for now.
Distinctive Style : “Personal Log#1539 : One of the new scientists came asking the same usual question…What’s with the whole clothing, the shaved hair and the chalk ? Didn’t bother to answer, this is what we were taught. Simple yet efficient way to keep protection against a lot of infections, those simple minded fools. They would be lost without a chemseal, sometimes I remember how weird it felt on my skin at first to wear those suits, now it’s a second skin, and well I don't have to suffer the horrendous conversation about the trendy haircut.
Control Freak (Alpha Junkie, Paranoïa, Basic Insomnia & PSC Vindictive.) : “Personal Log#1789 : I KNEW IT, those slimy pieces of shit, they think i don’t know what they are trying to do ? Taking away my project from me ! My research, I knew they would not respect their end of the deal. I show a modicum of trust and that’s how I'm rewarded. I’m the one who messed with my own body for the sake of mankind ! Not them ! I should be the lead of that project !<Sounds of breaking glass. Then a deep breath.> Fuck, i should really get some sleep. Tomorrow will be another day…

SINs
Docteur Victoria Vega (Real Limited Corporate SIN, Proteus AG)
Amélie Duhamel (R4 Fake SIN, French Republic)
Appearance
Victoria is a pretty beautiful woman, yet her obsession to keep her head shaved and the chalk on her skin can rebuke some people, so much that it would sometimes seem that it’s deliberate. Her deep blue eyes seem to bring judgment on everything they gaze at. She is pretty tall and skinny showing clear signs of a poorly developed muscle mass especially due to the clothing she wears. For the rare person that saw her without a mask and the fewer one that saw her smile, they would have noticed the fangs kinda similar to those of a vampire, some peoples might think she is one due to the fact she is not often found outside her house or workplace.
Clothing
She is always wearing the same kind of black and white neoprene suit with some reinforcement for the sake of safety. High leather boots and gloves complete the set up alongside an elaborate gasmask design. It’s as good for lab work than it is to run around the Barrens and do field medic chores. She also wears a little insignia tied to the school that saw her bloom.
Matrix Persona
On the matrix Vega appears as an old school kind of nurse 1920’s sanatorium one. Her sprite will often take the form of doctor of the same time period for the clothing.

Break The Chain | Proteus is getting more and more delusional about the result that Vega could bring, the Docteur fear for her life, what if she ends up as an unwilling test subject in one of those underwater facilities. No…She can’t end up like that, she needs to find a way out.
The Last Bastion | She’ll never forget the indoctrination of her younger years.Joining the Shadow is a way to her to finally have a chance to help the fight against the Bugs, the Toxic and the Infected that roam the world and put the humanity at risk
Mastering the Mind | Vega grew complacent about the gift of technomancy and now she is wondering if she hasn’t made a mistake by doing so, maybe it’s time for her to work on this gift, it would be foolish to not use such a potent tool after all. |
