Character Information

Summary

Short Circuit is one of the mentally unstable people that roam the streets due to her past. She can be outright crazy but becomes hyper-professional when it comes to her job and tasks, as this is what her personality and mind cling to. She is primarily a private eye who uses drones to enhance her senses and create detailed reconstructions as well as talk her way into and out of trouble. Secondarily, she acts as a scout with her drones and can provide fire support using smart-platformed weapons.

Goals

- Get a workshop and gear
- Get a grasp of who she was
- Find some allies or a team
- Stabilize!

Background

Born in 2013 as one of the first UGE dwarves, she grew up in a world reshaped by magic and metahumanity. By the 2040s, she had joined Lone Star Security Services, navigating Seattle’s streets where corporate power dictated the law. Rising through the ranks, she became a rigger, controlling drones to maintain order in a city drowning in chaos.

In 2067, during a routine security detail at a corporate building, her life unraveled. A technomancer breached the Matrix defenses, launching a direct attack on her mind. The digital assault shattered her psyche, leaving her broken and vulnerable. Her superior, desperate to cover his mistakes, ignored protocols, mishandled the situation, and when the dust settled, framed her as the scapegoat.

Her trial in 2068 was swift and merciless. Paranoia about technomancers fueled public hysteria, which later culminated in the Emergence Crisis, and corporate interests ensured her silence. She was sentenced to life in an Ares-run detention facility, a place designed to crush disgraced cops and other law enforcement agents. It took the irregular visits from shrinks and layers of bureaucracy over twelve years to release a shattered mind back onto the streets in 2079. It was not out of mercy, but because the cost of providing even minimal healthcare no longer justified her continued imprisonment.

Refusing to live under the permanent stain of a criminal SIN, she shed it herself, erasing her official identity to escape the shadow of her past. For the last six years, she scraped by in Seattle’s underbelly, finding her place in the margins of society, trying to regain a grasp on a personality that had been shattered long ago

Appearance

Ava, better known as Short Circuit, is a 73-year-old dwarf with a striking presence. Standing at only 1.1 meters tall and with her albinistic paleness, she blends seamlessly into the shadows of Seattle. Her white dreadlocks fall haphazardly across her face, which is marked by scars—remnants of poorly executed surgeries where cyberware was removed. The skin in these areas is uneven, as if the technicians prioritized speed over precision. Despite these physical imperfections, Ava exudes a peculiar charisma. Her eyes, cool and alert, seem to drift between the present and some distant reality. The face of this dwarf shows signs of age, a rare sight on the streets—few survive that long in the shadows.

Her overall appearance is far from that of a well-dressed face who manipulates the shadows with smooth words, nor does it scream weaponry, though she usually carries a Super Warhawk. She looks like someone who either doesn’t care about her appearance or is simply incapable of taking proper care of herself.

Clothing

Ava usually stomps around in big, heavy biker boots and an old, worn coverall that hangs halfway down, cinched tightly with a heavy-duty belt, revealing the athletic pants underneath. She typically wears a top that was once white but has faded to a dingy beige, paired with a vest reminiscent of what SWAT team members used to wear. She's rarely seen without her signature tactical goggles, perfectly fitting for both function and her unpredictable style.

When she's out on the streets, her outfit is upgraded with an armored vest, lined with LED strips that flicker faintly, though the vest itself has clearly seen better days. Often, this gear is hidden beneath a large rain cloak that nearly obscures her entire frame—only her hands peek out from beneath the fabric. The cloak runs in AR-fashion to help her blend into the crowd, masking her presence in the chaotic streets of Seattle.

Matrix Persona

A twitchting, glitching lightning-dwarf.
