Summary
A mysterious tablet linking ancient Guitan to Sumerian sets a team of runners on a treasure hunt in Iraq, guided by linguists, spirits, and sheikhs. Following negotiations with varioius sponsors, they locate the Tomb of The Scribe with the help of a Djin and an Irfit, who in turn demand the runners representation at an impending conclave - even deeper adventures loom ahead after this adventure is completed.
Background
A historian, a sheik, and a Fixer...
...find a tablet which proves to be the lost link between the aincient forgotten language Guitan and ancient Sumerian. It enables the historian to decode Guitan and the writing on "the Tablet of the Tomb of The Scribe". The writing helpes to narrow down a search area where the ancient Tomb of Queen Puab is expected to be. Because of the dangers in the area, they decide to hire runners to help find the tomb.
The Meet
Ty, Titan, Delphi, Aishar, and Gulliver meet Thalia Sandival at a The Public House, a bar in Seattle.
She offers the runners 5 000.- Nuyen information about the location of the Tomb of The Scribe. The runners object to the low pay-out. She tries to comfort them with the fact that there will be one more sponsor who could pay much more. The runners negotate 4 000.- Nuyen additonal up-front payment for expenses and the risk that the second Johnson might not pay anything at all, and agree to the job.
Later, the same day, the runners meet with Carleton Moreau, a capable Johnson and Fixer. He offers the runners 30 000 Nuyen to find the location of the lost Tomb of The Scribe in Iraq. The runners negotiate 5 000.- additional pre-payment and agree to the deal.
On the way to the airport, where one of Caleton's trasport plane is waiting, the runners have a vision and realize that they have been seen in a divination. They deduct, that there is another team looking for the same treasure.
After landing in An Nasiriyah, Iraq, the runners meet with Sheikh Mustafa Al-Saadun, an artifact-collector who is co-sponsoring the expidition. He provides the runners with cars, mounted weapons, and ammo. They also meet Prof. Dr. Marjo Riita Lehtisalo, the Linguist who deciphered the Tablet of The Tomb of Queen Puab and "hacked" the ancient language Guitan by establishing a connection to ancient Sumerian. She provides the runners with additional thoughts about where the Tomb of The Scribe might be.
The Plan
Get to Iraq. Land in An Nasiriyah. Drone-, spirit, and "manually" search for signs of the Tomb in the area around Eridu Sumerina and the surrounding area. Signs would include mounds, seal of the ancient Queen Puab, writings in Guitan language.
When found, confirm the location is the Tomb of the Scribe & report back to the Johnsons.
The Run
The runners drive towards An Nasiryah. Aishar goes astral, travels along and keeps an eye open for potential opponents and trouble, potentially interesting historical sites, and unusual sights. Close to Eridu, she notices a free swamp-spirit and notifies the rest of the crew.
Delphi disguises as an air spirit and aproaches the swamp spirt with proper ettiquette.
After a long talk, the spirit suggests that the team of runners meet with two Sheiks; The Djin, and The Irfit. Delphi requests the swamp-spirit to escort the team to the Djin.
After a short few seconds, talking with the Djin, the Irfit also shows up. They both prove to be members of the local fauna who request the runners to be their meta-human representatives at a conclave in the near future. All runners agree as the spirits offer them spirit services in return.
Gulliver uses the service and requests the spirits show the runners the location of an ancient tomb and shares the information from the clues gathered thus far.
The spirits show the way to the tomb.
The runners report the location back to their Johnsons.
The run-objective is completet, they get paid but still owe the irfit and the djin and know that they will soon be called upon to represent them at the conclave.
Aftermath
The conclave is aproaching and the runners get ready for their next task.
