He wanted a daughter to love and cherish, and love and cherish the young Isabel Carver he did. He taught her manners and etiquette and gave her books to read. He taught her to fish, to ride a bike, and to kill. Tenkaichi-san understood as few did that this was a world of sharks and savages. You must do unto others, or be done unto yourself.
