Background

Iranos Vukotic, also known as Kostchtchie, was born in the Russian city of Archangel. He and his brother Messner were left orphaned at a young age and had to fend for themselves. With Ira's strength and Messner magic, they managed to get by for awhile but eventually ran out of money and needed help. They turned the Vikings gang and joined up, both of them having valuable skills to offer. As they began to make names for themselves, Messner found himself troubled by the morally dubious nature of the things the gang did. He started going by the name Burislav, deciding that he would be better than the lowly rank and file the gang. Meanwhile, Ira made a name for himself with his strength and prodigious ability to shrug off blows that would leave weaker men unconscious. His fellow gang members named him Kostchtchie, jokingly boasting that he could not be killed.

When Kostchtchie was 16 came the first of two events that would lead to Kost leaving the gang. This was Burislav deciding that being a hero among villains was no longer good enough and deciding that he no longer wanted to be a part of their evil. He asked his brother to follow him and attempt to make their fortunes across the ocean. However, Kost enjoyed his life of local celebrity and challenging combat, and said he didn't want to leave. When Burislav left, it troubled him deeply, but he resolutely decided not to let it get to him. He couldn't help it if his brother did not see the benefits to their lifestyle.

However, when he was 18, something else happened. Kostchtchie was sent to kill a man who had failed to pay his debts, and was told that his target was a dangerous man who needed to be neutralized quickly. Kost showed up looking for a fight, but it turned out he had been lied to. The man was an unaugmented, unawakened shopkeeper who posed no threat to the lowliest of the gang, let alone Kostchtchie. Filled with rage, Kostchtchie slaughtered him effortlessly. Then, sitting in the man's kitchen, he reevaluated his position. He had been lied to, he had been sent to kill an innocent, defenseless man.

That day he packed everything he cared for into a bag and headed to the docks. He found the first freighter heading the America that he could and bribed the captain to let him ride along off the books in exchange for labor. He jumped overboard as they came within sight of his destination and swam to shore several miles south of New York. Then, with considerable effort and very slow progress, he made his way on foot west towards Seattle. Now, reunited with his brother, he seeks to make up for the mistakes of his past and to rekindle their previous closeness.
