Character Information

Summary

You know those old secret agent trids where the dashing super spy always has his smart, sexy and skilled bombshell hacker on call to help save the day? That's Brat. In her own head at least. In reality she's far closer to the basement dwelling, anti social otaku types she distances herself from. Though a skilled decker in her own right, her bragadocious personality and inability to take a joke give her a form of main character syndrome that demands patience when dealing with her antics. With her immature outbursts and rather diminuative stature it's no surprise that her street name was forced upon her rather than chosen. But if you CAN put up with her, you'll have the privilige of watching a digital artist at work, one who can maybe one day back up her grand claims of being the best in Seattle.

Goals

Long Term

  • Become renowned as one of the best Deckers in Seattle.
  • Amass a clique of followers.
  • Become a member of Jackpoint.
  • Become the #1 Miracle Shooter player in Seattle.

Short Term

  • Learn to drive and buy a mode of transportation.
  • Move to a better apartment.

Background

Kelly Heathers had a similar upbringing to many street kids in Seattle, born to a pair of no good gangers in the Redmond Barrens. Whilst many would have envied her for living in Touristville Kelly was not so easily pleased, cursing her lot in life and always dreaming of bigger things. As a child of members of the Brain Eaters gang she was exposed to technology and the Matrix from an early age, quickly drawn into its tangled maze of wonders and mysteries. VR provided a welcome escape from the violent arguments of her parents and the growling of her stomach.

As a teenager she was encouraged to come into the fold alongside her parents, whom saw fit to delegate some of their administrative responsibility to her as a trial of sorts. Kelly saw this though as an opportunity. On the night of her sixteenth birthday she raided her parents safe, easily bypassing the digital lock they themselves had taught her to crack. From within she swiped the contents, a number of credsticks from the gangs ill gotten gains. Without looking back she fled into the night, setting off to try and seek a better life in Downtown Seattle where she prayed fortune would smile upon her.

The first year was difficult, even the meager pleasures of Touristville seemed luscious when living on the street, but her pride did not allow her to even consider returning to that life. She was going to take her life into her own hands and make something of it, make something of herself. She started out with odd jobs in poorer neighbourhoods, fixing a deck here, restructuring the network of a small business there, but soon began to delve into the criminal underworld out of neccessity. Helping street gangs to raid warehouses proved to be a lucrative gig for Kelly, specifically because the targets were never anything wild. Her rotating stable of accomplices would always nab something for her on the way out as payment, whether it be ware or deck parts, steadily helping her build up her arsenal.

It was on just one of these jobs she stumbled into a data bomb that almost bricked her. She had been drinking at the time and was only half invested in her role anyways, but alongside the confetti explosion was a mocking riddle challenging her to a game. Her pride unable to bear being bested in such a comical fashion Kelly pursued this riddle tirelessly for a month, being led on a merry chase all across Seattle with ever increasingly complex puzzles. Her tormentor at last seemed to acknowledge her skill (or take pity) and invite her into the ranks of the Electric Knights, a secretive group of Matrix pranksters famed for their mischief. While they weren't exactly a profitiable venture, Kelly believed she had found like minds in the Knights, fellow deckers with which to hone her skills and further build her legend. Sadly this was not to be the case.

Many of the people who call the Matrix home are socially stunted, it often comes with the territory. When forty such people are bought together into one place they can perform wonders, but it's inevitable for them to produce sparks too. As it turns out, Kelly's quest for attention and approval ran directly opposed to the covert nature of the group, leading to many a falling out with them. She stuck around long enough to get more gear under her belt but eventually gave up there too, vowing to only rely on her own strength from now on to reach her goals. With her meager earnings she rented out an crummy apartment in Downtown from which she plies her trade, working the shadows while eyeing the surrounding high rises enviously.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

Negative

  • Curiosity Killed the Cat: To maintain her self proclaimed title as Princess of the Matrix, Brat will leave no stone unturned in her data dives. Who knows what unsuspecting folder could be holding the juciest, most scintillating paydata in the Sixth World?
  • Poor Self Control (Braggart): Despite thinking herself a charming rogue, Brat is blissfully unaware of just how irritating and childish her arrogant pride can be. Her reflexive urge to boast and exaggerate even her most minor accomplishments is sure to make her seem all the more petulent.
  • Signature (Digital Calling Card): Being the best decker on the 'trix isn't any good if nobody knows it right? Whenever Brat copies or edits a file she can't help but insert a little chibi sticker of her own mug, slipping it in as a nice surprise for the next spider taking digital inventory. Sure it might not actually be doing much to help her street cred... But she sure does feel smug thinking about the look on their face!

Symbols and Signatures

Brat's matrix mark is a stylised chibi version of her own face, one she's printed into both a sew on patch and stickers which she has adorned all her gear with. Her ego can't help but insert this into her file edits when on runs too, acting as a calling card for her mischief.

Matrix Search Table

Threshold Result
1 A number of mainstream news outlets reffering to shadowrunners or other criminal elements as brats within their articles.
3 A series of colourfuly worded 'gamer moments' across the Miracle Shooter forums, eventually leading to a permenant ban early this year.
6 Her given street name seems to have been agreed upon by her prior colleagues rather than chosen by herself, much to her chagrin. It seems she's appeared under many (far cooler) aliases over the past few years, though each time has been unable to change the general consensus around Brat.

Shadow Community Table

Threshold Result
1 An up and coming runner who's exploits are only known because she boasts about them so loudly. General consensus appears to view her as a wide eyed rookie.
3 A very capable decker if you have the patience to put up with her insufferable personality. Tread cautiously around her, as it doesn't take much for her to hold a grudge.
5 Ties to the Electric Knights hacker gang and their (usually) harmless pranks across Seattle. She seems to have went her own way due to a difference in opinion.

Assensing Table

Threshold Result
1 Generally healthy, mundane.

4
5 Not a Technomancer.

Appearance

Clothing

The Meet

  • Scamp fancies herself quite the catch and dresses to emphasise it, always showing up in a fetching formfitting jumpsuit with the zipper pulled just low enough to be suggestive. Any effect this may actually have to ingratiate herself to the Johnson or her fellow runners is no doubt quickly dispelled when she opens her mouth, but an attempt was made! When the Pacific winds are particularly chilly she may accentuate the look with a battered leather jacket, customised with sewn on patches from all her favourite synthcore bands. In the warmer months she may dress down into tank tops, short shorts or ripped jeans, all apropriatley grunged up by years of living in the shadows.

The Job

  • If it ain't broke don't fix it. Scamp's fond of her aesthetic and is happy to stay in her jumpsuit if the job allows it. If she does expect to be dragged kicking and screaming into meatspace or gods forbid getting shot at, she'll swap out the leather jacket for a rugged PMC plate carrier atop her iconic suit. Sure she may not need a PC for the paltry amount of ammo she carries, but nothing beats the hardened operator aesthetic or how cool it feels to execute a perfect mag swap... Something she DEFINITELY has not practiced repeatedly in the mirror.
