Summary
Black Samurai and Caliban are called on by Cecelia Cross to retrieve some pre-crash information for her. Predictable violence ensues.
Background
Cecelia Cross has a scrap of a lead on something that her cousin Lucien left behind. She wants to get ahold of it, but it's in an abandoned facility in Redmond. A proper run would be a waste of resources, so she calls two people she has at her beck and call to clear out some ghouls.
The Meet
A very normal pair of runners are ordered to come to a fancy cafe by one Cecelia Cross. After struggling with basic social cues for a few minutes, Cecelia arrives to her meet - telling the runners to collect some encrypted data from within an old CATco facility. Caliban is specifically instructed not to take a copy for herself.
The Plan
The team does a little investigation into the facility to begin with. The factory was once owned by catco, but was bought out by Ares in their takeover. However, the factory was sold off to a knockoff brand of commlink cases - Weaselcub. They went out of business before the crash.
The team gained a floor plan from a CatCo skillsoft run by Caliban. Black Samurai had heard in a noodle shop not long ago that ghouls have moved into the factory.
They did no further legwork.
The Run
Upon arrival, Black Samurai and Caliban spent a few seconds studying the factory and the host. A bit of banter back and forth - and when Caliban crosses a line in conversation that Sam finds insulting, he gets out of the car to go knock on the door. In a panic, Caliban rushes to the matrix and enters the host, just in time to spot the spider sending a command to the front door. A dataspike gets loaded up - and her monstrous persona swipes at the poor decker until he's been torn into shattered data, only scraps remaining.
Black Samurai knocks at the door, waits three seconds, knocks again - and is blown up with a grenade. He didn't appreciate that very much, but still politely asked the ghouls inside if they would let him take what he needed. They drew weapons. He responded by cutting the biggest one in half.
Caliban, meanwhile, caught one of the group leaning against a press. She turned it on, and that ghoul was no longer a problem. One more ghoul gets cut down, and the remainder of their foes fled. Thinking carefully, Black Samurai hunted down the ghouls' decker - leaving him a handwritten note and a band-aid on his deck. After looking around on the map for the servers they seek, Black Sam is able to track the racks to a hole underneath the press. After clambering down and back out, using a borrowed tarp to prevent ghoul blood from dripping onto his everything, Black Samurai collects the device. Caliban puts the device in rice, and proceeds to repair it over the course of a day.
When she enters the device for a file, she spots gaps in the sculpting - hints of a dissonance pool peeking through. Tamping down on her nerves, she collects a pair of copies - and as she tries to leave, realizes that the device wants to keep her here. The beach yawns wide. Caliban flees like a wild animal.
When she escapes, Sam helps her put a full clip of pistol rounds into the machine.
Aftermath
At the meet, Caliban tells Cecelia that what was in there was evil. When asked if she took a copy of the files for herself, Caliban lies and says she did not.
Cecelia doesn't give any indication of whether she believes that or not.
