Character Information

Summary

Sickly necromancer hoping to spread the good word of death and find her missing wife.

Goals

  • Figure out what happened to her wife
  • Bring peace through death
  • Lead more people to follow the path of Necro Magic

Background

Originally a sickly Milanese street witch offering her services to her community and tending to its many dead, Elisabetta was sure she was doomed to die when a VITAS-4 outbreak started to rip through her city. She would've, too, if a miracle hadn't eradicated the virus just as its symptoms began strangling the life out of her. Her own magic wasn't nearly enough to fight off the infection, but then She appeared. The High Priestess of Death, the Tzuri Group's Dr. Jennifer Stinson, brought the awe inspiring powers of death to the city and somehow used them to defeat the burgeoning epidemic. It was nothing short of a religious experience for Elisabetta... even if Dr. Stinson's miracle came a few hours too late to save her from permanent health issues.

She was an instant convert, Elisabetta wanted nothing more than to delve into the mysteries of Necro Magic, to serve her savior and study beneath her, but Dr. Stinson wasn't taking students. There was, however, a school opened by one of the good doctor's colleges, that promised to teach its students all about the newly discovered tradition and its Domain of the Black. The only problem? It was in Pyongyang, thousands of kilometers away. But Elisabetta refused to let anything stop her from following this new path.

The sickly witch turned her talents towards less savory endeavors, selling her skills to the corps and criminals preying upon the feral city. Shadowrunning is dangerous even for the fittest runners, but somehow she survived long enough to afford her passage and tuition at Pyongyang's "Necro School". Her existing magical talent and diehard belief in the tradition's ideals made her an ideal candidate for the school, and so Elisabetta found herself readily accepted into the program.

She threw herself into her studies for the next few years, setting aside her career as a criminal to learn all she could about Necro Magic. While there, Elisabetta met another student, a mystic adept named Yoon Hae-won, and the two women became inseparable. They married shortly after graduating from the program.

Elisabetta wanted to apply for a teaching position at the school, but Hae-won was adventurous and wanted to see the world. Hae-won's desires won out in the end, but she agreed to assist her wife in spreading the High Priestess of Death's message wherever they traveled. Travel costs money, however, so the pair took up running once again, this time as a team.

Their travels landed them in Seattle early in 2085. Jobs were plentiful, even for a pair of unaffiliated runners, but the job is never safe. It's even more dangerous when you're alone. Hae-won insisted on taking a solo mission when Elisabetta was rendered bedridden by her illness, despite her wife's protests. Hae-won ignored her protests, tucked her into bed, asked a trustworthy neighbor to keep an eye on her, kissed her on the forehead, and left. That was the last time Elisabetta saw her wife.

Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months, but thus far Elisabetta's efforts to find her wife have been fruitless. And that's the worst part, not knowing. Death, that she could accept. Death came for us all eventually, it was the force that ruled Elisabetta's world, but she couldn't move on and find acceptance without proof. A body. A witness. Something. The closest she's gotten to figuring out what happened is a rumor that a Night Hunter has recently started using an axe that matches the description of Hae-won's prized weapon focus. She can not, will not move on from the Emerald City until she finds her wife.

However, she needs funds. The couple's savings have all but run out. And she refuses to compromise her ideals by using her talents as a street preacher for the Dominion of Black to fill her pockets instead of spreading her beliefs. The prospect of running with anyone besides Hae-won isn't one she looks forward to, but she is in no position to go back to being a solo act. And so she's sought out membership to the ShadowHaven...

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

  • College Education, Linguist, School of Hard Knocks: Elisabetta had always been a quick learner, but didn't truly have time to expand her mind until joining Hwang's Necro School.
  • Inspired, Rabble Rouser: Elisabetta stands out from other street preachers by exuding an air of calm, instead of shouting out fire-and-brimstone sermons to anyone who'll listen. She merely wants to share the magic that saved her life to anyone who'd be comforted by the idea controlling the energies of death to protect life and bring peace.
  • Gifted Healer: Elisabetta has not forgotten her origins as a street witch, treating the wounds of Milan's destitute with her abilities. Even today, she knows how to knit flesh back together with mana better than most can.

Negative

  • Addiction (Mild, Psyche), Lightweight: Elisabetta's health issues have lead to her being hit especially hard by even "tame" drugs. Despite many in the shadows claiming that Psyche doesn't actually count as a drug, she's found herself developing a dependency.
  • Distinctive Style: A dangerously gaunt woman wearing mourning attire tends to catch peoples' attention.
  • Driven (Figure out what happened to Hae-won): The simplest answer is that her wife is dead, but Elisabetta doesn't know for sure. Her watchers have never found a body, but surely Hae-won wouldn't just disappear on her if she... All she knows is that her fixer has heard rumors of a Night Hunter using a new battle axe that matches the description of Hae-won's weapon focus.
  • Favored (Biased, Women): While Elisabetta's never hated men despite their... flaws, she can't deny greatly preferring women. A number of powerful women, like Dr. Stinson and Hae-won, leaving marks on her life certainly hasn't helped the issue.
  • Illness: Elisabetta was in poor health before the 2075 VITAS outbreak in Milan. She just barely survived the horrific disease thanks to Dr. Stinson's magic, but never completely recovered. She's dangerously underweight, and prone to fits of vomiting and severe fatigue.
