Summary

A magician goes missing and needs to recover her body before she passes away due to losing her link to her physical form. Two separate runs occur and while she does almost pass away, she is eventually safely returned to safety.

Background

Weaver had grown up with the good life; rich parents, good SINner family with limited corporate sins. Her family had her a ticket through university at MIT&T, but eventually the stress of work and school got to her and she fully burnt out. She became a NEET and lived life in her apartment for three full years before her family cut her off. Her choice; stay a NEET and get evicted, or take a lump of money from the parents to go get a real job and do something with her life.

Taking this as a wake up call, she opened up her own shop doing what she did best; artificing. She made and upgraded foci, did enchanting and anchored spells, and worked her ass off for some time, even going so far as to venture into the metaplanes. By all rights, she was doing well for herself, making enough money to pay back her parents and start living life by her own tune.

Though, things caught up to her eventually. She had bridges burnt, addictions called, and scars made, and so even while Jessica was set to be her own woman, she still had her own issues. As such, she kept much to herself, and her close friends; many of which were Halloweeners. She was asked to join at some point, but declined, still finding herself quite the introvert.

Now, while she makes solid money as an artificer, she still gets herself into trouble... and it seems, trouble has found her.

See In Mud Thrives Thieves for details on what happened before. During this run, it was brought to light that someone had paid to make Weaver's death look like an accident. So, when her spirit showed up at Monica Faulkner's office at the Pinehurst Memorial Library Team's HQ, Monica had to sort it out, now in over her head and not wanting to be involved.

The Meet

The team met with Monica Faulkner at the PHMLT's office to discuss what had been going on recently, giving a short overview of the last gig, and offering a very small amount of money to figure it out and get Weaver out of her office. The team agreed, noting that Weaver would pay the duo with foci and magical goods after the run had been completed.

The Plan

The team new where Weaver's body had been over the past few weeks, and figure'd they'd have about 16 hours to do some investigation before Weaver passed away. So, they'd work from the bottom and get to the top to find out where her body was, and then get to where it is.

The Run

The team started by looking at the hotel where her body was last located. Once there, the team walked around and used social etiquette and lies to navigate the building. They were able to find the location of where Jessica's body had been, and Dreadnought used psychometry to find out that Weaver had been kidnapped and moved around while she was astrally projecting to the metaplanes.

Raum, talking to the hotel attendant, found that Someone had brought Jessica here, and had security camera of the kidnapper. Looking around the outside of the hotel, Raum and Dreadnought recognize a stuffer shack, and head in to see if the store operator had cameras on the lot next door. Raum, posing as a knight errant officer, used conned security footage out of the store operator. Dreadnought called their contact, Skinshedder, who was able to find the owner of the Kidnapper's car. With a face in hand, Raum used a search power to find the location of the Kidnapper. A call to Alessa P. found that the Kidnapper was actually a Hitman known as a 'shitman', or a hitman who was ready to get down and dirty and use the most underhanded tactics to win. The Shitman known as Sean O'Darragh was found nearby Weaver's apartment, and so the team went to investigate.

Once at the area where Weaver's apartment is, the team found multiple sightings of Sean O'Darragh, and soon realized that he was using spirits to make illusions of him. Finding the actual location, the duo storm his hideout in an old sugar factory. They head inside, dodging traps and spirits and grenades and fight with Sean in a very vertical battle. While he does put up a fight, the tricks up his sleeve are no match for the head-on and direct violence from Dreadnought's kicks and Raum's spells, and the duo get out victorious, but not unscathed.

Sean, now cuffed, puts up a good fight against interogation, but ultimately caves and tells them where Weaver is stored, in a storage locker behind a big ward he had help making. Sean mentions he's always been prepared to die, and if they let him go he'd kill again, given he's good at what he does and likes doing it. And, that he likes room service.

Long live the king.

Aftermath

With the shitman dead and Weaver Saved, the duo get paid in nuyen and magical goods, a big hug, and a new freindship in the form of Weaver.

Dreadnought

I felt invincible out there. I ran through those grenades like they were nothing, and I just kept kicking my injuries into the enemies. I'm glad that I was able to help out with the investigation. Raum was a smooth operator even if I can't wrap my head around why they had a mundane aura, but were able to cast magic. It's weird.
