Arete Zero line | |||||||||
Summary
The runners are hired to clear a building of its current occupants. The complication: these occupants receive regular shipments, and the runners must replace them—at least for one shipment—while making sure that, when the delivery arrives, everything looks normal. No signs of a firefight, just business as usual.
Background
The Johnson needs the building and surrounding area for his own operations and isn’t willing to share.
The Meet
The runners meet the Johnson in a Matrix café. They quickly get down to business, discussing the job. The runners ask about possible complications and the type of building involved. Arete, distrustful of Matrix meetings and suspecting a setup, demands an escrow account. The Johnson agrees, offering 12,000 nuyen per runner plus 10% upfront.
The Plan
Zero Line and Arete meet in the LowBar to talk face-to-face. After exchanging details about their abilities, they settle on a plan: use CS gas grenades to drive the targets out, then eliminate them with a mix of sniper fire and a powerful spirit. Both agree on non-lethal methods to avoid damaging the property. Arete immediately projects to scout the location but critically glitches his assensing, seeing nothing useful.
The Run
After some preparation, Arete summons a strong guardian spirit, while Zero Line finds a sniper perch. Using Levitate and Improved Invisibility, Zero Line gets onto the roof of a nearby corporate building and hides. Arete moves onto the premises the same way, slipping over the fence.
Then things go sideways. Arete is spotted from the astral plane, and an enemy mage begins blasting his spells. Arete is forced to defend himself. The runners cannot stick to the original plan, but eventually turn the tide—though Zero Line narrowly avoids being sniped himself. The opposition fails to penetrate Improved Invisibility and is picked off one by one.
Thanks to their non-lethal approach, cleanup is minimal. The runners secure the former occupants and strip them of gear. When a shipment of toxic magical waste arrives, the delivery crew notices nothing unusual and drops it off. The Johnson’s team arrives shortly after to relieve the runners. Payment is settled, and the job is complete.
Aftermath
Another warehouse at the Tacoma docks more or less quietly changes hands.

Player After Action Reports (AARs)
Arete:Wow, that went pear shaped really fast. All due to my incompetent astral scouting. Thank the Maker that Zero Line is just as good a shot as expected. I should take him to Desmond's Cajun Delights. Fill up on oyster po'boys and go guzzle some beer.
