Background

SINless don't have to live a terrible life. Most do, comparatively, at least. Some, however, make an acceptable living for themselves. Of course these survivalists still are strongly below the poverty limit, but it can be considered a sustainable lifestyle. Fox's parents can't say that they are cut from that cloth. His father, MIA. His spanish mother Maria gave him the name David Reza Cervantes; Reza because she insists on the fact that the father is Persian. While Reza wasn't the toughest kid on the block, he knew how to make friends. By the age of six, shortly after entering into the voluntary-basis Community School Tacoma (for SINless), he formed a clique so tight-knit that they would surely be best friends forever. Even after the fairly lackluster, but at least basic education, they stayed in touch despite going different paths.

David figured that the equally community-funded School of Arts and Acting in Woodinville, Redmond was where he wanted to spend his near future. Acting always enthralled him, and the time to come would inspire him to learn all about Shakespearean plays. This is the moment in the story where dreams begin to take shape, and the dream here was clearly to perform a play as stellar as Hamlet in front of a global audience in a critically acclaimed theater. After having learned all that there was to learn there, David stayed in Woodinville and joined the play group, continued to work toward his dream. The years flew by, however, and all opportunities to join a more well-funded theater or play school were squashed, ignored on grounds of being SINless.

When it rains, it pours. These repeated smashing defeats in the search for career opportunities were combined with the tragic news that his best friend Tim, on a days-long drug trip, accepted membership into the Tigers. When he sobered up, he asked for help from David to get out, only to die with loud screams during the commcall - the pact magic that had been tattooed on his body triggered upon breaking said pact. Depressed, furious, in tears, and helpless, David had to learn through Tim's last words that he was only hanging out with the Tigers because two other childhood friends had joined the cultish gang voluntarily.

Of course, devastated as he was, David would make the most solid of choices, get together the couple of old time friends that were ready spontaneously and charge a known Tigers venue, only to find himself at death's door a few seconds later, pulled into the sewers by the lone surviving friend of this botched "operation". Two years went by in which David was either drowning in self pity or like a madman did legwork on the Tigers. He eventually ran out of savings, and finding himself without alternatives, chose to accept an offer from a local Urban Brawl team. They were very well-funded and quickly convinced the man that he was never going to get the latent magic abilities he recently discovered about himself working well enough to make a solid living. They spoke the truth, of course. Who wants to be a corporate drone, anyway?

Now known as "War Fox" in the Seattle Urban Brawl city league for his cunning tactical thinking and the ability to swiftly carry the ball to the goal without dying like a lot of blasters, David has recently found another way of making money: Shadowrunning. Not only was it a great moonlighting job, it also got him in contact with all sorts of dangerous people. He doesn't trust them all quite yet, and he's sure if given the chance they'd sell him out in a heartbeat, but Fox has learned a lot from his suicidal mistakes in the past. This time he would be prepared (or so he thought).
