Summary

The Metroplex Governor Race of ‘84 is upon the SINnners and SINless of the Seattle Metroplex. Players are moving in the shadows to manipulate the outcome through subterfuge and, sometimes, outright violence. The Republican Party in Seattle is about to receive an unexpected bump in the race.

Background

Free Seattle!, the neo-anarchist collective, is back at it again. They seek to sow maximal chaos into the election cycle in order to see their greatest dream realized: the independence of Seattle and its transformation into a truly Free City.

The Meet

Mx. Johnsons contacted Count of Three directly to see if he’d be willing to use his skills as a former mob hitman to “good” use. Count of Three met with Mx. Johnson over the Matrix on the public grid of Redmond and heard out their proposition: assassinate a top aide of Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Kassandra Hemingway during the campaign’s opening reveal at their Bellevue Campaign Office and make it look like a consequence of gang violence. To this end Mx. Johnson has contracted out for a group of Hellhounds to attend the opening at the rear of the crowd and cause disruptions. Count of Three agreed and quickly subcontracted out to Sizzles, needing some Matrix support for the mission. Mx. Johnson was more than happy to pay for more help to make sure it went smoothly.

The Plan

Count of Three’s plan was straightforward: learn enough about the 405 Hellhounds with Sizzle’s help to lure one of their enemies to attack the three planted Hellhounds and in the chaos, fire a killing shot at the Republican aide. It won’t be possible to conceal from forensic ballistics what type of weapon fired the shot and from where but the news media will sensationally latch onto the gangland violence story. By the time the truth emerges the news cycle will have moved on.

The Run

Sizzles starts investigating the 405 Hellhounds and discovers that they have a major rival in the Blood Mountain Boys go-gang. Count networks with Alessa P. to get in touch with someone from the BMB, as they are recently getting into bootlegging and Alessa P. has contacts with bootleggers. Koggi, a lieutenant of the BMB, agrees to order a driveby on the Hellhounds at the campaign office in exchange for nuyen. Count offers him 50% more than Koggi asked for, sealing the deal and endearing him to Koggi.

Sizzles tracks down the campaign coordinator and is able to hack into her commlink to get a sense of what security levels to expect. While there he snooped around and found a campaign slush fund. Calling his contact Manmeet Singh for help, Manmeet gladly helped him skim off the top and launder the nuyen for a fee (nothing wrong with crime as long as it wears a white collar!)

Count sneaks up and finds a sniper’s perch across the street from the campaign party and speech. It begins with the campaign aide flanked by two Knight Errant officers, and a Matrix/AR/holo appearance from the candidate herself. Part way through the speech, as she is talking about her own personal loss at the hands of random street violence, the Blood Mountain Boy hit team rolls up on motorcycles and guns down the 405 Hellhounds in attendance. Count takes his carefully aimed shot to make it look like the aide is catching a random stray, and then ducks out quickly with no one the wiser.

Aftermath

Four civilians in the crowd were hurt but none killed in the shooting. The event became immediate sensational news in the Seattle Metroplex news environment with a seemingly traumatized and impassioned Kassandra Hemingway railing against a world where this thing can be allowed to continue.
