Summary

The team is hired to recover a shipment of reagents that is missing in Hell's Kitchen, but find it in the possession of a vindictive fire spirit. Diplomacy and honesty allows the run to come to a compromise.

Background

Leo Hyde, a talislegger in Puyallup City, has had a team of wizgangers gathering reagents for him in Hell's Kitchen go missing. Not one to accept a loss in profits, Leo Hyde reached out to shadowrunners to find his missing reagents.

The Meet

The meet took place in an alley behind Leo's shop. Leo was fairly frustrated and stressed with the situation, but gave the runners enough time to negotiate his asking price up. The runners were given descriptions of the missing people and their last known location, then simply advised to not die.

The Plan

The team drove in Ryuuji's truck out into the lava flats and ash fields of Hell's Kitchen, hoping to find some sort of clue as to the missing packages' whereabouts at the harvesters' last known location.

The Run

Thankfully, the team were prepared with respirators and gas masks, avoiding fatigue in the area. There wasn't much at the given location, but the team were able to find a trail of footprints and motorcycle tracks going north. While following them, Vikar noticed some hell hounds nearby the truck and scared them off with a gunshot into the air.

At the tracks' destination was the dead bodies of the couriers, and the wreckage of the motorcycle they were using. Ryuuji was able to spot burns and bite marks, and determined that the burns were magical in origin, and the bite marks seemed to match the profile of a hell hound. The team found more tracks, these ones paw prints, leading west. After a brief delay when the truck broke through the brittle surface of the lava flat, the team found a vent with the hell hounds' den, two unopened metal drums, and a Force 8 fire spirit.

The team approached cautiously, giving the spirit enough time to manifest and parley. It explained that it viewed the area as its home, the reagents as its stolen property, and the harvesters as trespassers. It also claimed that the Johnson had bound it in the past, and it wanted revenge, implying a reward for the runners if they could convince him to come to the spirit for it to "deal with" him. A long discussion followed between the runners, weighing the choices they had. Ultimately, while the spirit was sympathetic, it had still killed three people, and the team managed to convince it to agree to a middle ground. They took one of the two drums, and promised to ensure Leo never returned to the area.

Aftermath

Leo was irritated at both the loss of one of the drums of reagents, and at the runners' insistence that he refrain from gathering too much in that area of Hell's Kitchen in the future. However, solid diplomacy and a mild threat on behalf of the free spirit was enough to convince him to abide by the runners' deal with the spirit, and the job was completed.

Game Quotes

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Lothar Dealing with spirits is a messy business. This run went side ways quickly. Turns out the Johnson was not so benevolent when requesting aid from the spirt world, and had pissed on a significant fire spirt in the past, and he took out his wrath on the runners hired to gather the reagents. (The did not survive the encounter long). The group was torn, the spirt had already killed 3 metahumans, in its thirst for vengeance and wanted the Johnson brought to it. Do we kill it for its violence or recognize its grievances. After some tense negotiations and the others swearing oaths to take out the Johnson should he send representatives back into the Kitchen, we got half of our objective. Returning to the Johnson we were able to smooth over the losses and convince him to change locations of his collection (without revealing the threat to his life).

Vikar I'm never the type to piss off a magical being and one of that power. glad we got to calm it dow and got to do this without it leading to kill someone...already had blood on it's hands but both sides are in the wrong.
