Background

2057 Born Middletown Ohio to James and Emma Jackson. David was an only child growing up in the backwater of the Appalachian fringe. The sparse population meant that there were relatively few other children to play with but David had a normal childhood for southern Ohio. When David was 10 his world changed. He started to Notice things. Girls, for example, seemed to glow with an inner light that was strangely alluring. Then everyone seemed to periodically glow with shifting colors. The day he saw the ghosts was terrifying. First the glowing, ghostly form of a woman flying down the street. Then the ghostly woman stopped ... a looked back at him! David would've fled but a warm firm hand on his shoulder calmed him as a low voice said "I'm here little brother, nothing to fear". The Big Brother that he'd sometimes wished for did not take the form he would've expected, but was welcome nonetheless. The teachings of his hero were instrumental in forming him as a person. He learned the importance of behaving with honor and respect, and that his word must be his bond. However, the influence of Dragonslayer was not uniformly positive. David also developed a somewhat hodonistic worldview. As Tiberius Claudius Secundus noted "Baths, wine, and sex corrupt our bodies, but baths, wine, and sex make life worth living." Despite the occasional hot water that partying landed him in, David did well in school and as graduation approached he had several scholarship offers to ponder.

2075 Graduated Madison high school accepted into Seattle University's Magical theory and Arts program. David took to academic magic like a duck to water; his Hermetic world view fit very well into the Ivory Tower . In his third year two consequential events occurred. The first was a job placement event for graduating seniors but open to juniors. Fully 75% of the class were interviewing for (and receiving) lucrative, well paying corporate jobs. Another 15% also took well paying corporate jobs -- in laboratories. For the ills of the world that he should be battling, he was on track to be part of the problem not part of the solution. The second was the seminar on magical threats. It turned out that the ills he was concerned about (crime, pollution, corruption) weren't the only worries and probably not even the most threatening of worries. He resolved that would both learn the tools to fight threats but also learn how to effectively use them. He would balance theory and praxis.

2079 Graduated Seattle University, Bachelor Magical theory & Arts and continued into the Master's program. He tried to maintain a balance between spellcasting and summoning and only did the minimum in enchanting. Spell wise he preferred manipulation spells but Dragonslayer insisted on a mastery of combat spells as well. During this time, David began his first timid ventures into the Seattle shadows. In exchange for arcane insights and advice he started to learn the tricks of the trade (who knew how expensive a good fake identity would be). Towards the end of the program he bagan the application process for ThD programs

2081 Graduated Seattle University, Master Magical theory & Arts. Enrolled MIT&T Th.D. program. After moving to Boston, David's life descended into the whirlwind of intense coursework that faces ThD students. David had always been at the top or near to the top of his classes. It was a shock to be in a situation where everyone was at least as bright and hard working as he was. His fellow students were not just competitors but collaborators as well; after several whispered conversations about bad mojo mind magic he learned the Mind Probe spell from another ThD student. He also learned to be discrete about knowing it. Finally, after finishing his coursework and comprehensive exams it was time to start his dissertation. Fter discussing the options with his mentor spirit and academic adivsor settled on Arcane Theory and Praxis: Unified Magic Theory and Tradition Variation . It was time to turn from the Ivory Tower to the Shadows.

2084 Sabbatical MIT&T Th.D. program. After returning to Seattle David established Arcane Consulting L.L.C. as a legitimate business to launder ill-gotten gains. He rented an apartment in Touristville and re-established his few contacts in the shadows.
