Background
Luddite was born to two of the survivors of the SCIRE lockdown, who after dealing with that threat to their life, formed a compound out in Redmond for themselves and a few other survivors. Shortly after the completion of this compound Crash 2.0 happened, which created a belief within the group that a doomsday had arrived. So they had Luddite and his eventual siblings raised within the compound to tend to gardens while the rest of their family continued to work in the city. At around the age of 8, Luddite started seeing things when he was outside, blinding flashes of light, symbols, and creatures he couldn't begin to understand, this was his onset of AIPS and his emergence. His family understood what this meant, and for his own good, decided to keep him inside. Once Mirror Material hit the open market they caked the walls of the rooms he was allowed in, which largely cut off his connection from the matrix. If he struggled really hard in certain corners of the compound, the bathroom window being one of his best options, he could get a glimpse of an ARO or data stream.
By the time he was 16, He was committed to leaving this place, and the resonance answered him as eventually he was awoken by a loud booming sound that, though not a voice, spoke to him, commanding him to be free, and with that, for a brief moment, he came into contact with Ray Bailey. Ray happened to be there on a whim, as he just felt something in the air telling him that he should be there tonight. They exchanged a few words but their short dialog set up a plan for Ray to be there the following week to help break Luddite out. And that night Ray delivered, for no reason beyond just wanting to help out, which immediately shattered Luddite's notions of how the outside world is inherently wicked.
He brought Luddite to a crash space where he would be safe while getting on his feet. Luddite became something of an apprentice to Ray, teaching him the bare bones of the matrix, while bringing him along on odd jobs and teaching him the skills of the skills of the trade. After a few months or so Luddite eventually had to strike out on his own, and over time refined his skills to the point where Auntie Amelia caught wind of him and hired him to help remove some digital graffiti on her posts selling her knitting, which eventually escalated in him dealing with the punks himself. After seeing his dedication to leaving a job half done she referred him to the Haven.
Positive
- Paragon: Probe. Luddite believes he was saved by the work of the probe and is committed to furthering its goals.
- Trust Data. Not Lore. Luddite knows firsthand how half-baked info and trusting your gut leads to bad decisions.
- Hair Trigger. Growing up Luddite did not have a stable connection to the matrix, so he learned how to take advantage of any situation he had.
Negative
- AIPS. Ludites seizure-like reactions to spam zones is what lead to him being stuck inside.
- Know Your Limit. As a kid Luddite would strain far too hard to make connections to the resonance, leading to him being apprehensive to do so in the future.
- Pie Iesu Domine. Done Eis Requiem. His family's cult believed that physically connecting to the world around you, no matter how painful, was necessary for atonement. Luddite, out of habit and comfort, cuts the heels out of his shoes.
- Poor Self Control (Compulsive 1, Personal. Read, Remember, and recite license plates of cars). As a child, Luddite made a game for himself out of memorizing the license plates for the cars the passed outside his house for as long as he could. This game, over time, became a habit and then a compulsion.
- Wired User. Luddite uses drugs to cope with his latent fear of the matrix
