Do we use this missions rule?
"In combat it says I can only make one attack action. What exactly does this mean? It means don’t get cute and try to play word games. Barring using the Multiple Attacks Free Action (in which you split your dice pool to attack multiple targets), you cannot take a second offensive action towards another character during your pass. This means throwing grenades, shooting guns, casting spells (recklessly or otherwise), spitting in their cheerios, spiking their tea with arsenic, or anything else that could be construed as a physical or mental attack in any way, shape or form. However, you may take a Free Action to cast disparaging remarks at their mothers if you so choose. If you’re not certain if an action would be an attack, well, it probably is. But ask yourself if they used it against you would it be an attack? And if you’re still not certain, ask your Gamemaster. However, be warned, if you try and argue with him he is authorized to smack you upside the head with the Shadowrun, Fifth Edition book." On that which missions rules besides this if any do we use? | axiomshift | 27 November 2017 00:00:00 | > "In combat it says I can only make one attack action. What exactly does this mean? Ya how do you stack things like Made Man discounts and Black Market Pipeline? | AfroNin | 8 January 2018 17:10:00 | Made Man and Black Market Pipeline will not stack with each other, however, both will stack individually with Dealer Connection. The stacking is calculated Additively - thus, when both apply, you recieve a 20% discount. | Mechanics Thread I | |
how does the convince(page 189 stolen souls) spell work as it says "it makes it harder for a subject to detect the inconsistencies in any story told to them" but the Perception Test threshold for recognizing an inconsistency increases by 1, and wouldn't someone find it odd if someone was using the incubus spell (153 cutting aces) and what they see is somthing that should not be there like "man covered in whipped cream," in like public place | HiddenBoss | 31 December 2017 22:29:00 | The first portion of your post is under consideration by Council. Please hold. The second portion of your post is not a question, however, I am forced to agree with you. It would be odd to find a man covered in whipped cream in a public place. It is almost exactly the sort of thing one would find odd. | Mechanics Thread I | |
For a character that has something along the lines of Antidepressants or other medications that aren't quite at the level of being proper drugs, but are enough of a mood-altering/control thing that they use it to self-medicate, how would this be best represented? Dependents(Nuisance), Illness, Bi-Polar, or something else? | Voodoo_Templar | 13 December 2017 05:36:00 | Nonmechanical impact of drugs such as anti-depressants and etc. do not need to be represented on the sheet. You can assume that they are a part of your lifestyle, though that might be a little tricky if you're a squatter. The real pro tip is don't be a squatter. | Mechanics Thread I | |
RF 115 with functional tails it says for prehencile tails, The tail has
an effective Strength equal to half the character’s unaugmented Strength (round down) I understand having STR 6 would make the tail have a STR of 3. So the question I have is, much like in the way you have an augmented limit of say 6(10), would that make the tail have a limit of 3(7) or just a flat 3 no matter if your on say Kami or have magic that boosts your attribute to your augmented limit? | Carrier_Oriskany | 19 January 2018 15:26:00 | Prehensile Tails work off of your unaugmented strength. This means any increase to your strength does not affect it. If you have spent karma to raise your strength to 6, then your tail is at strength 3. This is true regardless of what other things affect your current strength score positively. | Mechanics Thread I | |
@Mechanics Team I have a question: I have a monowhip weapon focus, electrical elemental weapon, and way of the cowboy for entanglement. How would entangling someone with such a weapon be handled? In core electrical damage rules state that an injury from electrical damage would be required to apply the debuffs, elemental weapon doesn't give a damage rating, entanglement doesn't do damage by itself, and monowhip doesn't have special entanglement rules(which seems odd considering microwire rope inflicts 8p at -8ap for touching it without special protection) | Panaramagram | 1 January 2018 09:06:00 | You cannot utilize Called Shot (Entanglement) with a monofilament whip. Therefore, your situation is not handled at all. Entanglement calls out a specific list of weapons, which a monofilament whip is not a part of. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Assensing vs Perception to spot astral forms/auras from the astral. Hiding on the astral is a thing, and you don't need a metamagic for it, so what is opposed by it? | ryncewynde88 | 28 December 2017 13:25:00 | Assensing + Intuition [Astral] against Sneaking + Agility [Physical] (if the sneaker is dual-natured or only on the meat) or Sneaking + Logic [Astral] (if the sneaker is wholly astral) is the test for stealth on the astral. | Mechanics Thread I | |
"Awakened Contacts have their total Nuyen reduced by Magic*20,000 Nuyen" Does this also apply to Emerged characters? | NotB0b | 13 January 2018 11:06:00 | Emerged contacts do not have a reduction in their nuyen available. | Mechanics Thread I | |
What does "significant extra weight" mean, in terms of skimmers? | Sadsuspenders | 2 February 2018 05:24:00 | Assume "significant extra weight" for the purposes of Skimmers (CF 88) to mean anything more than roughly 2kg/point of body above and beyond FBA+reasonable weaponry. You can still have your combat axe or sniper rifle and FBA, but if you try carrying a ballistic shield things might get a bit hairy. Anything that needs a lift and carry test is, of course, right out. | Mechanics Thread I | |
When using control device the book states "All actions you take while controlling a device use either the normal limit for that action or your Data Processing rating, whichever is lower." (SR5e:CR pg. 238). But later in the book it uses the example of a perception test via drone it's sensors it says "When you use the sensor array for Perception Tests, you may use your Electronic Warfare skill in place of your Perception skill, and you may use the sensor’s Rating as your limit."(SR5e:CR pg. 445). In both instances I'm using control device which as stated in the book is a variable action, meaning I use it in place of another action but also mimic that other action, but in one instance I can use my own limits and In another I have to use my Rigger control console data processing as the limit? This feels contradictory? And I just wanted to know which rules I should follow. | MrDappertorn | 4 February 2018 20:59:00 | Making a perception test does not use the Control Device matrix action. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Direct elemental spells like Flame Burst: Direct means it ignores armour. How does this affect the Armour test to avoid catching fire? | ryncewynde88 | 20 December 2017 04:58:00 | While Direct spells ignore armor for the purposes of how they deal damage, the elemental effects still suffer the full resistance of armor. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Another question. is Narcoject a Natural or Synth toxin for the purpose of natural immunity? | KPsyChoPath | 26 January 2018 17:00:00 | Unanswered | Mechanics Thread I | |
Resonance Veil complex form relies rather heavily on GM fiat (like many of them do). I was hoping we could have a mechanics clarification that would establish a baseline for what can be accomplished.
Something like... > 'Resonance veil can mimic the effects of a Spoof Command matrix action when successfully threaded (GM discretion applies as to whether Resonance Veil can have wider utility).' | reyjinn | 18 December 2017 18:57:00 | While I am happy to answer specific questions, I am not going to rule broadly. While Resonance Veil is very open ended and this can be a point in it's favor, it also makes it basically impossible to rule on properly. For now it remains in GM fiat. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Can all wards types be made types be made permanent or just ward on page 297 (meaning you need to mix ward with the other types of wards as on page 135. Talking about that, it lists Special wards that can also be combined with permission of the gamemaster, how do you want do go about that? | HiddenBoss | 9 February 2018 21:24:00 | Only basic wards may be permanent. None of the GM-Permission required wards may be combined in any combination with each other or other wards. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Spirit physical bodies can ignore gravity. This is known, and explicitly called out as 'physical bodies' not 'materialized bodies'. Inhabitation (spirit power) allows a spirit to completely take over a host body, as with bug spirits, and some bugs have wings and the ability to fly explicitly stated, What about Possession (a different spirit power)? | ryncewynde88 | 7 December 2017 02:57:00 | Spirits utilizing the Possession power may only move in the ways that their host entity could ordinarily move. While this is only explicitly stated under Dead/Inanimate Vessels, we will extrapolate this to apply to living ones as well. | Mechanics Thread I | |

So somewhat related to the answer given for whether or not Practice x 3 works for things such as spellcasting. Would special work area increase "relevant limits" for such skills as ritual spellcasting and artificing. Relevant text below.
SPECIAL WORK AREA (POSITIVE, P. 370, SR5) Applies to a single asset (Garage or Workshop). Can be purchased more than once per lifestyle. The 1,000 nuyen per month additional cost applies each time this is purchased, as does the +2 bonus to the Limit for relevant skill tests performed in the area. | axiomshift | 16 January 2018 04:18:00 | Unanswered | Mechanics Thread I | |
Tell me if I'm wrong, but you can't shoot the same person with two different guns on the same pass, right? Or can you do that by splitting dp? | SCKoNi | 12 February 2018 22:56:00 | You cannot shoot the same person with two different guns on the same pass, even if you split your dice pools. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Can a rating 6 medkit be added to armor with enough capacity for it, and would it be obvious? | mudge6 | 31 January 2018 19:57:00 | A rating 6 medkit can be added to armor, though it can safely be assumed to only function for the wearer. It's obviousness is up to the GM. It is likely neither super blatant nor super stealth. Savvy individuals are likely to be able to notice it. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Just to clear this up, because I'm tired of the arguing,
does magic count as an augmentation (in the case of some augmentations saying they don't stack with other augmentations?) Or is it this stupid case by case depending on the precise wording of the spell/power and if it contains the *specific word* "augment"? | SilithDark | 10 December 2017 00:30:00 | Unanswered | Mechanics Thread I | |
So the Islamic Alchemist traditional option has a sort-of self-resolving issue: It requires that on the second Initiation you take Quickening, which is banned here. However, it also forbids using Spellcasting and Ritual Spellcasting, so... How are you handling this? | ryncewynde88 | 8 January 2018 00:49:00 | The Islamic Alchemist, when required to take Quickening, instead gains no metamagic for that initiation. When required to take Anchoring, they instead gain no metamagic for that initiation. This sounds awful, but is de facto RAW, since they, as you say, cannot use Spellcasting or Ritual Spellcasting. | Mechanics Thread I | |
How in gods name do Modular Connectors work for limbs? Can they be put in limbs, like putting a modular connector into an obvious cyberleg to have the ability to switch it out from the knee and below? | Voodoo_Templar | 27 November 2017 08:24:00 | Modular connectors between flesh and limb work in one of two ways - either you purchase a connector and place it in your flesh, allowing you to change out any appropriately-sized limb, or you purchase a modular limb and can swap it out without the use of a connector, but only with other modular limbs. Essentially, you pay in capacity, or you pay in essence. In either case, your essence will adjust, leaving essence holes as appropriate, to any changes in your limbs. A connector does not place a limb into its capacity, so it still costs essence to have an arm attached to a connector. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Invited marks. Do they travel up the stream like marks gotten via Hack on the Fly/Brute Force? | reyjinn | 13 January 2018 19:36:00 | Invited marks do not travel up the stream at this time. This may be changed later. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Should you be able to take a Called Shot with Aiming in some way, whether you do the Called Shot beforehand or after the Aiming?
TAKE AIM A character may take aim with a ready firearm, bow, or throwing weapon as a Simple Action. Take Aim actions are cumulative, but the benefits are lost if the character takes any other kind of action—including a Free Action— at any time before attacking. Take Aim actions may be extended over multiple Action Phases and Combat Turns. The maximum bonus a character may gain from sequen- tial Take Aim actions, either to her limit or her dice pool, is equal to one-half the character’s Willpower, rounded up. Each Take Aim action applies a +1 dice pool modifier or +1 Accuracy increase to the Attack Test. If the character is using image magnification or a targeting scope, Take Aim must be used to line up the shot in order to receive the bonus from the item. In this case the first action of Take Aim does not provide any additional bonus beyond enabling the function of the modification. Other actions don't really make sense at all, but Called Shot seems like it'd be perfectly reasonable. It's a houserule, but I figured it'd be worth asking, since it came up on voicechat today. | Voodoo_Templar | 12 December 2017 19:01:00 | For sanity's sake, assume that the free action in conjunction with the attack action for a Called Shot does not reset the Take Aim bonuses. It happens simultaneously, not prior to. So Take Aim and Called Shots can work together. | Mechanics Thread I | |
We have a bunch of guns whose dmg codes assume they are loaded with regular flechette ammo.
Can these weapons be loaded with SnS flechette? And will that apply the -2 dmg, -5 AP of a SnS ammo instead of the blend of flechette and SnS codes that Catalyst gave SnS flechette? --- Parashield Dart pistols and Parashield Dart rifles & Drone weapon mounts. Can we have a documented answer to refer to about which kind of weapon mounts these weapons go into please? | reyjinn | 15 December 2017 22:14:00 | Stick n Shock Flechette can only be loaded into shotguns per RAW.
Weapons with Flechette as part of their damage code default can *only* fire flechette rounds. This does not include Stick n Shock Flechette. Parashield Dart Pistols will be treated as Heavy Pistols for the purposes of mounting them on drones and vehicles. Parashield Dart Rifles will be treated as Sniper Rifles for the purposes of mounting them on drones and vehicles. | Mechanics Thread I | |
can you put YMT Soft Weave in like forearm guards or ballstic mask? | HiddenBoss | 1 January 2018 01:40:00 | YNT Softweave may only be added to base armor pieces. It may not be added to armor accessories. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Biocompatibility states that reductions to essence get rounded; " (e.g., the reduction for alphaware of 0.8 is reduced by ten percent, or 0.08, to become 0.72, and is rounded down to 0.7)" Chummer doesnt abide by this, should it just be ignored? | xDaedalus | 8 January 2018 11:23:00 | Chummer is not a rules source. | Mechanics Thread I | |
With the MArt technique of pouncing dragon only working if you have supperior position, this begs the question... As subdueal gives one superior position, but yet doesn't require a test to deal damage, does pouncing dragon work with subdual in regards to dealing damage? | Carrier_Oriskany | 19 December 2017 08:29:00 | Pouncing Dragon is it's own special Complex Action. Utilizing it as part of a subdual action is not possible as a result. | Mechanics Thread I | |

However, remember that you can buy it.
Further downtime rules are forthcoming. --- You are not a wall. You cannot carry around a *wall mounted* sensor housing. It must be mounted on a wall, with power hookups and a wall. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Concealability mods from clothes: Do they stack, eg mortimer stuff or cloak? | ryncewynde88 | 15 December 2017 12:03:00 | Concealability from multiple pieces of armor does not stack with other pieces of armor. Would the Quality Hawk Eye stack with the adept power (Improved Sense)?
Sourcing relevant quotes below. >Characters [with this quality] gain a +1 dice pool modifier to their Perception Tests and shift all Range Environmental modifiers up one category (e.g., Medium becomes Short). Note that this is not stated to *be* Vision mag, simply act like it. Second relevant bit. >[The quality] is not compatible with electronic vision enhancements and/or cyber- or bioware augmentations or replacements However, the Adept Power Improved Sense is *not* either an electronic enhancement or a cyber/bioware augmentation.
| sevastapolnights | 15 January 2018 07:45:00 | The quality "Hawk Eye" does not stack with electronic enhancements, cyberware, or bioware. The Adept Power "Improved Sense" mimics certain of the prior, and thus does not stack with the Hawk Eye quality. In short, you can't get double vision magnification. Sorry. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Just a quicky. The interaction of Narco with Buffout. Specficly the +6 strenght when lift/carry or doing grapple. Would just love a confirmation if Narco increases the strenght bonus or not | KPsyChoPath | 27 December 2017 19:16:00 | Narco will not affect situational or specific bonuses to attributes, such as bonuses to logic-linked skills, or bonuses to strength for lift and carry or grappling damage. | Mechanics Thread I | |
As per SG for conjuring a Ally spirit. The very first 2 words call out a Ritual. But it does not call out Ritual spellcasting, and even calls out only summoning and Binding as the means of actually conjuring the ally spirit. So can we get a confirmation on that the Ritual, since it is not called out anywhere in the paragraphs for getting an ally spirit. That is is not actually used (even if you still need to learn that ritual for ally spirits) | KPsyChoPath | 18 December 2017 15:10:00 | When casting a ritual, including the ritual for an Ally Spirits, one uses Ritual Spellcasting. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Can you turn cyberweapons like Hand blades and spurs into weapon foci? | mitsayantan | 5 December 2017 17:49:00 | Implants of any kind cannot be both implanted in a living body and be a focus. Per SG, the conflicting auras do not permit it. EDIT: Qi foci may explicitly be tattooed. As a result, one may have a cyberimplant that is also a Qi Focus. Other foci remain invalid targets. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Do the auto-hits on Hardened Armor count as "successes" to the soak test, and thus are lost from the subsequent roll, or can they still be rolled during the soak test?
In other words F6 Fire Spirit gets shot by Ak-97 for 2 net hits for a total of 12P AP-2 Does it roll for soak: 7BOD+5Armour+5auto-hits OR 7BOD+10Armour+5Auto-hits | SCKoNi | 2 February 2018 03:31:00 | The automatic hits from Hardened Armor are extra, and thus do not detract from the dice pool of the subsequent damage resistance test. Unfortunately. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Does a Nartaki require three instances of Ambidexterity to eliminate their penalties? Note, penalties, not pool splitting.
AMBIDEXTROUS COST: 4 KARMA The Ambidextrous character can handle objects equally well with either hand. Without this quality, any action per- formed solely with the off–hand (i.e., firing a gun) suffers a –2 dice pool modifier (see Attacker Using Off-Hand Weapon, p. 178). From the CRB, page 71. There's an incredibly cheap piece of ware, Bilateral Co-ordination Co-processor, that's about 0.2 Esse and 4.5k Nuyen to eliminate the penalties for all hands, yet it seems like Nartaki's need to take Ambidexterity three times to eliminate their offhand penalties. | Voodoo_Templar | 29 November 2017 05:28:00 | A nartaki, or anyone else with Shiva Arms, requires an instance of Ambidextrous for each additional arm in order to avoid penalties with said arm. The Bilateral Coordination Coprocessor will reduce penalties by 2 for any given action. If you are only using one non-primary hand, this will typically be sufficient. However, if you are using multiple, the GM may apply the penalty multiple times, at their discretion. I suggest they only do this in cases where multiple limbs are required to coordinate to a higher degree than firing a weapon - for example performing brain surgery. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Can the noise generated by Smoke and Mirrors be cancelled out by noise reduction? Does it impact actions performed _on_ you by others? If the noise can be reduced by noise reduction, does that reduce sleaze rating? | ghasek | 12 January 2018 04:57:00 | The noise generated by Smoke and Mirrors can be cancelled out by Noise Reduction. I think that's what noise reduction is for.
The noise generated by Smoke and Mirrors explicitly per RAW does not apply to any actions taken against you, except for the Trace Icon action. At no point does Noise Reduction or Smoke and Mirrors indicate that noise reduction also reduces Sleaze rating. | Mechanics Thread I | |

I told you use mental stats thing here when in VR or jumped in but not ar but there no rules about it on the wiki like what stat do you use in place of this and so on. | HiddenBoss | 6 January 2018 12:59:00 | When one is in VR, one may utilize any of their choice of Intuition or Reaction for tests relating to vehicles and drones that call for either, and their choice of Logic or Agility for tests relating to vehicles and drones that call for either. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Mystic Armor adept power. Active or passive for the purposes of whether it is affected by background count? | reyjinn | 27 January 2018 17:33:00 | I am unsure what you mean by "active or passive." Fencing Gear pg. 418 Core Is there a standard for the buyer's dice pool? Is this confined to tables and GMs decide on the fly? Something else I'm not thinking of? | mike_the_kangeroo | 3 December 2017 15:28:00 | When fencing gear, players are encouraged to utilize the rules basing the return on a contact's loyalty. However, if the choose to utilize the method that involves finding a buyer, it must be rolled out, at a table, with a GM. Needless to say, if a GM is found to be playing it fast and loose with this, the Thematics Department will probably be very grumpy with them. | Mechanics Thread I | |

Posting a thing for confirmation and so that it can be added to the Wiki. Cyberlimbs when bought with a higher grade ware (alpha and so on) increases the cost of the things you put into it, but does it then also increase the cost of customizing the attributes of the cyberlimb (from the normal 5k) | KPsyChoPath | 22 December 2017 16:28:00 | The cost of customizing the attributes of a cyberlimb is part of the cost of the cyberlimb itself, and is accordingly affected by the grade of the cyberlimb. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Question on cyberware smuggling compartments and drones: You have the fingertip [1], small [2], and large [5] compartments. The fingertip one explicitly allows micro-drones. The small seems to suggest that it holds "small and mini-sized items (nothing bigger than a light pistol typically". The large holds "something the size of a heavy pistol or a small SMG (gamemaster’s discretion—think breadbox size as a guide)". Does that mean mini-drones for the small [2] compartment and small drones for the large [5] compartment? (The small-sized Lockheed Optic-X2 is described as "only the size of a cyberdeck with its wings folded up for transport", which seems to be about right for a breadbox.) Follow-up question: can the internal router cyberware be used on devices held inside cyberware smuggling comparments? (i.e., wires go from inside the body to inside the compartment) | RandomChummer | 14 January 2018 03:26:00 | At this time Mechanics Division is not going to make any sweeping rulings related to drone size and cyberware compartments. However, the Lockheed Optic-X2, when folded up, will fit into a Large Smuggling Compartment cyberware unit. The internal router cyberware may be used on devices held inside cyberware smuggling compartments. | Mechanics Thread I | |

What is a "sniper rifle", and what is a "hunting rifle"? I ask specifically in reference to drone weapon mounts. | mike_the_kangeroo | 3 December 2017 05:15:00 | For the purposes of drone mounts, Hunting Rifles will include all Sporting rifles.
Sporting rifles will include all such weapons listed explicitly in crunch as a sporting rifle or using the sporting rifle specialization, as well as the Ruger 950. Sniper Rifles will include all other non-shotguns utilizing the longarms skills. | Mechanics Thread I | |
How do BTLs interact with drugs?
1. Do they stack? 2. Do they cause drug interactions? 3. Do they cause an overdose? | Adamsmithchan | 9 February 2018 16:27:00 | BTLs do not stack with drugs, cause drug interactions like drugs, and overdose like drugs. Incidentally, drugs do not stack, they overlap - you cannot, for example, take Kamikaze twice and gain +4 strength. | Mechanics Thread I | |
The biofiber pocket (HT 185) says that it obscures the auras and astral forms of foci using dual natured plant life contained within the pocket. Does that mean that this plant life has an astral form that can be detected through assensing? If so, the availability 10F biofiber pocket would give away its own illegal existence, as well as being a big neon sign saying 'search me, I'm hiding foci!' to any assensing security mage or spirit. If not, that raises the question of how the biofiber pocket actually works (and potentially if it is even necessary). | mahrab | 26 November 2017 04:03:00 | Biofiber pockets are a detectible aura, however, they generally do not extend outside of the clothing they are within unless someone sticks their head into your pants. This means they are pretty easy to not detect. It will, however, still mask foci within from being seen from outside them. Protection, unless someone is sticking their head into your pants. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Does the Virtual Machine program increase the number of autosofts an RRC can run?
And while I'm at it: "Here’s a list of handy programs for the savvy rigger and their basic function. See the Programs section of the Matrix chapter (p. 243) for more detail." -Rigger Programs Sidebar, pg. 269 Core Are these the *only* programs that can be run on a RRC? | mike_the_kangeroo | 3 December 2017 04:16:00 | The Virtual Machine Program does **not** increase the number of autosofts that an RCC can run. The RCC can run any common or hacking program, though many of them will not be useful. The sole exception is that they cannot run programs that alter an attribute they do not possess already. This means they cannot run, for example, Smoke and Mirrors to gain a sleaze score unless they somehow already have one. | Mechanics Thread I | |
What happens when a TM threads Infusion of [Matrix Attribute] of a level equal to his meat brain stat (e.g. L5) and then his brain att gets boosted (by drugs or magic or whatever)? Are there Decryption keys for encrypted files that allow legitimate users to access them without using the Crack File Action? | SCKoNi | 17 January 2018 20:40:00 | There are no "decryption keys." In order to use the Edit File action on a file, you must first bypass any protection it has. If you are the owner of a file, it does not have to roll any defense dice against your Crack File action, however, you still need to have an attack attribute. GMs, please note the impact this has on the matrix ecosystem. | Mechanics Thread I | |

Hello, my character wants to use Laced lipstick (SS 178, 187, 196) with contact toxins ( [Kiss of death] (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KissOfDeath) ). But unfortunately, there is no easy solution to protect herself from the effect of the toxin (apart from qualities/bioware, which is too much for a gimmick).
So I was thinking a custom item of a liquid transparent polymer coating (Reusable) for a cost of 100 (laced lipstick +neuro-stun VII+DMSO costs 160)? Something, like this (https://youtu.be/1hXX5dD8O9A?t=1m33s). I know... worst Batman movie ever. | Astronimos | 30 January 2018 18:25:00 | While Laced Lipstick itself does not protect you, the acquisition of an appropriate protective method - a plastic or wax coating, for example - shall be assumed to be a part of lifestyle for anyone who is not literally a squatter. | Mechanics Thread I | |
clarify and expand the upgrade rules
Currently it's unclear how they interact with the 'max avail outside of runs' limit, or if you can upgrade the grade of your ware or when you pay the extra 25% surcharge (why is it a thing, btw?) How I think it works: can upgrade grades, anything that has a rating can be upgraded, the surcharge is only when you're upgrading the ware's grade, anything that is covered by upgrade rules isn't subject to the avail cap (outside of foci and deltaware), the surcharge % is from the difference, not the total cost of the piece of ware. None of this is clear from the entry on the wiki, however. I just assume it works like it used to on the Net.

Does it abide by Aug max (+4 augmented to a stat at any given time) or does it break it? (like a force 22 channeled spirit would give you +11 to all physical stats) Thanks in advance | KPsyChoPath | 20 December 2017 19:18:00 | The alteration to physical stats by Channeling and Possession are limited by the augmented max of +4. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Can Black market pipeline be used to sell Foci made by the PC? It's unclear to me what constitutes 'PC economy' and is not permitted, aside from judicious looting and PC -> PC sales. | xDaedalus | 6 January 2018 00:28:00 | As a general rule, when one is producing foci and selling them for a profit, one is no longer a shadowrunner, and is instead a foci producer. Since this game is about shadowrunners, and not foci producers, generally one should shy away from regular, reliable income sources that are not shadowrunner, or one should retire to those. | Mechanics Thread I | |

Hi, I just ran into something on Herolab. I picked Oracle as my mentor spirit. Herolab is telling me that I have to pick divination for my first initiation power before I can choose anything else. This isn't a do or die thing for me I can choose another mentor but after talking it over on ooc-chargen DrBurst wanted this problem documented. | davyj0nes | 27 December 2017 06:17:00 | Adepts, Magicians, Aspected Magicians, and Mysads following Oracle both may and must take the Divination art and the Augury and Sortilege ritual for the next initiation if they do not already possess it.
Adepts and Mystic Adepts without the Magician's Way, as well as any Aspected Conjurers or Aspected Enchanters may still use the Augury and Sortilege ritual, completing the ritual with a straight Magic check (rolling their Magic attribute only in d6) instead of Ritual Spellcasting + Magic, and interpreting the answer to the Question with an Arcana + Logic check. Mystic Adepts who are not locked out of Sorcery and who are following the Magician's Way, and any Magician or Aspected Sorcerer, will use Ritual Spellcasting to complete the ritual as per the usual rules. As usual, the Augury and Sortilege ritual is highly dependent on factors that are not actually within the GM's control, and I encourage you to be cautious even in the face of a seemingly definitive answer. The future is, after all, very tricky. If a character who does not have Ritual Spellcasting is no longer following Oracle, they may not make use of these rules in order to utilize Augury and Sortilege. They are only available to those who stick with Oracle's Gifts. | Mechanics Thread I | |

I have some questions about the Ewar actions in rigger five, on page 30. The book says that "All of the following actions are matrix actions, yes you can use them if you're not a rigger." But all but one, confuse pilot, which just incentives an RCC, require a rigger command console, what does the haven believe the intent of this clause is? A further question, certain creatures, like those that are dual natured, and characters with simsense vertigo have difficulty/impossibility interacting with AR. Is it feasible to use an analog input like a collapsible/foldable keyboard for them to interact with the 'trix. If so, how much would it cost? | Adamsmithchan | 13 January 2018 17:31:00 | Just because you have an RCC does not mean you are a Rigger in-universe. A rigger is someone who has a control rig.
Dual natured creatures have no special difficulties interacting with the matrix. Utilizing a non-AR method of interacting with the matrix is permitted by default with all normal commlinks, RCCs, and cyberdecks, assuming they do not have a form factor that renders this impossible. However, utilizing non-AR methods of interacting with the matrix means that you functionally cannot "keep up" in matrix combat, and thus cannot realistically hack. In effect, they are not capable of entering initiative, and all actions should be considered as taking a minimum of a combat turn to enact. It is also worth noting that spirits (specifically, as opposed to dual natured creatures generally) are not capable of entering AR or VR. | Mechanics Thread I | |

Regarding anthro drones. Can they A.) wield metahuman weapons without weapon mounts, and B.) Wear metahuman armor (which I would assume follows the armor stacking rules by RAW meaning if its higher than their base armor only the highest number counts.) | _Everstone_ | 13 February 2018 21:13:00 | Anthrodrones may wield metahuman weapons. Anthrodrones may wear metahuman armor, but may not benefit from it's armor score. | Mechanics Thread I | |
1. How many Rank 1 skills could I realistically handwave after each run?
2. How long after getting approved do you start accumulating downtime? 3. Does Adrenaline Surge apply to Matrix and Astral Initiative? | SCKoNi | 7 December 2017 23:02:00 | You cannot handwave any skill training. The rules for training skills are pretty much always in effect.
One's initial downtime period begins immediately after being approved, however, one cannot backdate anything into this time period. They possess only the nuyen and karma that they had when they exited character creation. Given that you cannot place GMP into a character until after their first run, they will likely need to go on a run in order to see any serious growth. Adrenaline Surge will function only on Meat initiative. | Mechanics Thread I | |
The Hobo With a Shotgun quality gives -2 to mental attributes if you stay in a better lifestyle than Squatter. Would staying in a Bolthole lifestyle trigger this penalty? For comparison, Squatter's max Comforts level is 2 while Bolthole's is 3 but you could always not go full on the comforts for the bolthole if that would be a deciding factor. | reyjinn | 1 December 2017 23:13:00 | The Hobo With A Shotgun actually states that you will not willingly stay in a better lifestyle than squatter. This means that you cannot pay for it and add it to your sheet. The penalty to mental attributes will apply if you are *forced* into that situation, such as if a fellow runner kidnaps you and locks you in their penthouse in order to try to cure your obvious mental illness. The Hobo With A Shotgun quality actually does not care about your comforts and necessities value, nor any other value of an advanced lifestyle. Incidentally, a Bolt Hole is not intended for long term inhabitation. While the argument could be made that neither is a particularly sturdy cardboard box hidden under a pier, the difference is a little academic - Hobo With A Shotgun does not permit you to stay in a Bolt Hole willingly. It's something about the roofs, man. | Mechanics Thread I | |
How does magic loss due to essence loss due to cyber/bioware work with Strain I Infected? | Tekomandor | 16 January 2018 02:30:00 | Essence lost on any character affects their essence score. This applies to Strain 1 infected equally. However, Strain 1 can store essence points in excess of their current, actual essence, typically twice as many points. Here it taken from the book "During ritual spellcasting (p. 174, SR4), in instead of using an astral spotter, the ritual team may opt to use a material link to target the spell. This is particularly useful when sending a spotter may be impossible or impractical (for example, when the spotter doesn’t know where the target is, or when security measures prevent the spotter from getting into a position to assense the target)." 28 street magic Can we get a house rule about using Arcana so people make their own spell formula then just buying them if they wish to. There are no rules in 5th edition or on ShadowHaven for the use of material links in place of a spotter at this time, and there are no plans to add them at a future date. Does bullseye burst apply the -2 defense penalty? | mitsayantan | 25 November 2017 21:49:00 | 1. The limitations on slots as relating to Easy Breakdown and Chameleon Coating will remain in place.
2. The Ares Briefcase Shield is non-ferrous and not itself affected by MAD scanners. It does not provide shielding to items within it, nor will Mechanics Team create wholesale rules for MAD shielding. 3. For simplicity's sake, Adapsin will provide immediate essence reduction of already implanted 'ware. This will leave an essence hole, without true essence recovery. This is solely to save the step of "Yo, street doc, rip out all my 'ware and put it back in." 4. You cannot put a sleaze dongle on an RCC. You can modify in a sleaze rating per device modifications, then run Smoke and Mirrors or other sleaze-boosting programs. 5. You cannot call a shot with spellcasting of any variety. 6. Bullseye burst does not provide any defense penalty, regardless of how many bullets are fired. | Mechanics Thread I | |

To initiate, instead of doing Arcana+Intuition with Threshhold Initiation Grade like it is in SR5 pg 325, would it be possible to use any of the other initiation processes described in Street Grimore starting at pg 140. Specifically I am looking either the 9 Paths to Enlightenment or the Hermit's Way. I would guess in order to do Hermit's Way, there would still be a certain required number of runs while existing with this Street level lifestyle. And for 9 Paths, talking to Thematics in some way so that they are not totally screwed over by the attributes they are told to roll every time. Thoughts? | Fiatsolves | 18 January 2018 20:10:00 | At this time, non-Core initiations are purely the domain of a GM's table through an appropriate run. Also: usability of the item while waiting for that delivery: Guessing foci are a no, due to having to sit in a talismonger's lodge for the duration, but ware and other things not as location-sensitive during construction? | ryncewynde88 | 28 January 2018 10:47:00 | Delivery time will be based off of the cost of the final item. The item is, however, usable in that time, as much as I like the idea of someone shipping off their cyberarm for upgrades, and running the shadows with one arm. Or three, if they're certain green-skinned Hindus. | Mechanics Thread I | |
As stated in R&G 125 with RFYL it states "Immediately after a Throwing Weapons Attack or Area-Effect Indirect Combat Spell Spellcasting Test, a character can make an immediate Interrupt Action to flee." However, rocket launchers, and to the similar extent grenade launchers, aren't thrown weapons they're heavy weapons. So that asks the question of, if it's possible on the haven to RFYL from these types of things. | Carrier_Oriskany | 14 January 2018 22:37:00 | While it is arguably not permitted by RAW, for sanity's sake, one is permitted to invoke the "Run For Your Life" interrupt action against missiles, rockets, and grenade launchers, in addition to indirect combat spells, explosive throwing weapon attacks, and any other area of effect attack that they are aware of. It is worth noting that one is generally not going to be aware of direct combat spells, or non-combat spells, to the degree necessary to flee them. A GM may permit you to, but is not required to. | Mechanics Thread I | |
conformation on weather or not you can do a "extended" matrix search. Ive had some Gms run it either way, and would like to have a "right" way to do it instead of just saying "Well it's how i was told to do it" | KPsyChoPath | 17 January 2018 19:34:00 | Matrix Search is an not extended test. It has it's own rules in Core. Within a host, it may be run as an extended test with short duration, such as to find a file, but to glean information off the matrix in general, it follows it's normal rules. | Mechanics Thread I | |

1: Can you put a chemseal in an urban explorer jumpsuit with the helmet?
2: Does chemseal provide enough protection from the sun to reduce an infected allergy to sunlight to mild? Does radiation protection 6? 3: What exactly would qualify for it to protect if the above doesn't? For reference, this is in relation to a vampire. Citations: http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24596.msg484042#msg484042 for the Infected bits, and the Urban Explorer is from the CRB. It's basically a jumpsuit/courier outfit that can come with a full helmet. | Voodoo_Templar | 28 November 2017 20:26:00 | Chemical Seal may be applied to any armor that comes with it's own helmet automatically. In order to use this chemical seal, it must be...
In essence, the helmet must be closed-face, precluding one from wearing a ballistic mask or helmet on top of it. The sole exception is for Full Body Armor, which can recieve a chemical seal without the use of capacity, by having it inbuilt at the increased availability and cost listed in the core rulebook. This is only for Full Body Armor, however, not any other armor. --- Chemical Seal does not have any particular effect on sunlight. A material's porousness to liquids and chemicals has no impact on the ability of ultraviolet (or infrared, for that matter) light to pass through. However, most armor that is capable of providing chemical seal will by it's nature reduce sunlight allergies by two steps when worn fully. Radiation protection has nothing to do with it, referring to alpha and beta radiation, not electromagnetic radiation. Ultimately, specific cases will come down to GM fiat, however, if no skin is exposed it likely qualifies for a reduction. Assume UV treatment is part of your lifestyle costs. | Mechanics Thread I | |

So I have a character in the works that ideally will have 20 Karma after I've finished with the Qualities. Now, seeing as how I intend to play the char a changeling, I want to know whether or not I need 30 Karma just to trigger Surge III? I'm picking the Changeling Qualities myself, but in the end, I still have 16 (or 20, depending on whether or not I decide to choose one of them) Karma points to spare. Now, the question is, do I need 30 Karma points going into the changeling if I'm going to have 10 points spare going out regardless?
Furthermore, I also wanted to make something to stand out, and so wanted to combine the Dermal Alteration with dragon scales in combination with Striking Skin Pigmentation, Unusual Hair and Bioluminescence. The only thing is, the game claims you can't mix neither the Dermal Alteration nor the negative quality Scales with other qualities that change skin (which ended with me picking Insectoid Features, namely carapace because that doesn't clash with anything but does the same thing as Scales would). Personally, I don't see how this would affect purely cosmetic stuff such as radically changing pigmentation or making it glow all pretty-like, and reckon that it's more aimed towards the Dermal Deposit quality, but the guys in chargen won't let me combine the dragon scales or the standard scales with the cosmetics. Any chance to either interpret the rules a bit freely or just make a GM exception in this case? Regardless of the verdict, cheers for reading! | ThatOneKith | 15 February 2018 01:35:00 | The full 30 karma is required in order to buy SURGE III, and accordingly any SURGE qualities. Dermal Alteration is incompatible with any other natural or artificial skin modification. It will not stack with Striking Skin Pigmentation. It is compatible with Unusual Hair and Bioluminescence. | Mechanics Thread I | |
For the purposes of spirit index, does have to deliver the killing blow to get spirit index due to dispersal, or does one merely need to participate in combat with a spirit while someone else delivers the killing blow? | mahrab | 11 January 2018 18:12:00 | Gaining spirit index due to disrupting a spirit will typically only trigger for the person who delivers the final blow, however, at a GM's discretion, they may award it to other integral combatants. | Mechanics Thread I | |
At what point does a weapon become mounted? Standard tripod? Smart tripod? Where is the line? | ryncewynde88 | 31 December 2017 16:04:00 | A weapon is mounted when it is on a weapon mount. A tripod is not a weapon mount. A smart firing platform is a weapon mount, but it is only usable remotely. The only other source of weapon mounts by RAW are on Vehicles and Drones, though a GM is free to use manual mounts on fixed locations if they deem fit. | Mechanics Thread I | |
(1) Can astral signatures be described by one mage to another?
(2) Can a summoned spirit performing the assensing service to read an astral signature describe it (or mental-link it) to the summoner? (All spirits have the Assensing power, some have Arcana, if it matters) (3) If yes to either 1 or 2, does a communicated signature work mechanically the same as an astral signature learn via assensing? | RandomChummer | 9 February 2018 14:19:00 | Astral Signatures may not be described to another mage. Alas, the intricacies of a sixth sense are even trickier than, say, describing the color red to someone. Issue with Bonding Ritual in Street Grimoire
Street Grimoire post-errata - "bonding ritual (with appropriate technical skill) with a minimum Force equal to the hits rolled using the appropriate dice pool on the Object Resistance Table" Street Grimoire pre-erratta - "bonding ritual (with appropriate technical skill) with a minimum Force equal to the Object Resistance Table" Normally straight forward, but there's no note of the change in official errata. Which one are we going with? | ryncewynde88 | 31 January 2018 23:43:00 | For the ShadowHaven, the 2nd printing text for the Bonding Ritual will be in use, however, instead of rolling the dice, simply take the pool and divide it by 3 if done during downtime, in order to keep results consistent. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Question regarding breaking down. How much does the breakdown do for you. Like does it reduce it size 1 category Such as normal pistol -> Light pistol and Heavy pistol -> normal pistol I know the main appeal of the breakdown is to hide the parts seperatly, but having a clarification on how much it helps is always a good thing in my eyes | KPsyChoPath | 14 January 2018 01:37:00 | A smuggling compartment can hold concealability -1 or lower. If broken down, it can hold concealability 0 or lower.
A skin pocket functions as above. A large smuggling compartment can store concealability +1 or lower. If broken down, it can store concealability +2 or lower. A cyberarm slide can store a taser, a hold-out pistol, or a light pistol. It can store nothing else. A cyber holster can store items with a concealibility of 0 or lower. An assault rifle with a sawn-off barrel or shotgun with a sawn-off barrel may be stored across two large smuggling compartments if it is broken down, again taking the vast majority of the space. No larger firearm may be stored in such compartments, even if you ask it really nicely to go to the gym with you. --- Concealability as a kludge for storage space is not additive in any sense, but if you're storing an item that caps out your concealability, you likely do not have much more space. Don't be a dumbshit. | Mechanics Thread I | |

The Sensei quality, contact rules and training times tables. How do? I seem to recall that this had been brought up earlier but I wasn't entirely sure and couldn't find any documentation about it so I decided to do it here since this seems to be something that needs to be addressed across several divisions. Paying a trainer to help you learn a skill roughly halves the time it takes, would the same apply to a Sensei contact? Sensei (which requires at least connection 3) either has a single skill at a rating of 13, instruction dicepool at 10 and a limit of 7 or a skill group at a rating of 12, instruction dicepool at 12 and a limit of 8. How does this interact with our contact creation rules? Furthermore, this... The teacher can only teach up to their own Instruction Rating. is from pg 141 in core. Far as I can tell this hasn't been errata'd at all? So a sensei contact could only give instruction up to some mysterious limit that we don't really get to know but could be from 11 to 1 or so depending on how much charisma they have? I'm feeling kinda bad for bringing this up now, didn't realize just how borked this whole thing was. | reyjinn | 14 January 2018 21:45:00 | The Sensei quality shall, at this point in time, be treated as a free trainer for their skill or skill group. They do not cost money to utilize, and they are capped at their own skill, rather than their Instruction rating. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Can you use bound spirits to do channeling? How does counterspelling work when applied to indirect aoe spells? There is a bit of confusion on the matter currently, as far as I can tell there are two schools of thought on the manner : 1. That counterspelling adds to the soak roll vs aoe indirect spells. 2. That counterspelling adds a defense test that previously did not exist and if successful in reducing the spellcasting hits to less than 3 will make the aoe scatter. Which one of these interpretations is correct? | axiomshift | 28 December 2017 12:00:00 | Counterspelling will turn Indirect AOE spells into an Opposed Threshold 3 test against the number of counterspelling dice spent. In effect, you roll your counterspelling dice against the spellcasting test, with each of your hits reducing their hits by one. This will reduce their damage, introduce the potential to scatter where it may not have existed before, and if you cause them to get zero hits, the spell will not go off at all, though they will still suffer the drain. | Mechanics Thread I | |

Can Free Spirits learn and use the Calling Ritual? Related: The Calling ritual states that Mundanes can use Arcana instead of Ritual Spellcasting; does this mean Emerged and non-ritual casting Awakened (Adepts, some Mysads, aspected Magi) cannot? | ryncewynde88 | 5 December 2017 22:10:00 | Free spirits cannot learn or utilize the Calling Ritual. As a general rule, "Can a spirit make more spirits" will be answered with "No" unless there is an explicit "Yes" as an exception to the general rule. As relates to the Calling Ritual, someone who is Mundane (and thus able to utilize Arcana instead of Ritual Spellcasting) shall be considered to be someone who has no Magic score whatsoever. This means that Emerged can, but that non ritual spellcasting Awakened cannot. Incidentally, it also means that Dual Natured beings cannot unless they have Ritual Spellcasting. | Mechanics Thread I | |
p 201 of street grimoire states:
> CONJURING AN ALLY > The ritual for summoning an ally must be performed in a magical lodge with a Force at least equal to the ally being summoned. Follow summoning rules (p. 300, SR5). Immediately after summoning, the spirit must be bound using standard binding rules (p. 300, SR5). Calculate Drain as if summoning and binding a spirit of the ally’s Force. If the binding succeeds, the magician pays an amount of Karma as outlined in the ally’s spirit formula. If the binding generates succeeds, the magician pays an amount of Karma as outlined in the ally’s spirit formula. If the necessary amount of Karma cannot be paid, the ritual fails. The Conjuring an Ally spirit has been referred to as a ritual. My question is does the summoner use Ritual Spellcasting or Summoning skill to bring the ally spirit, before the binding test? If it uses Ritual spellcasting, is it like a standard ritual or is it, as stated above similar to summoning rules where PC rolls Ritual Spellcasting vs Force of ally spirit? Previous ruling has stated: https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowHavenBBS/comments/7fhhvl/mechanics_thread_i/drfa2ko/ but I still wanted to confirm about the ritual spellcasting thing, since the book states follow summoning rules. | mitsayantan | 14 January 2018 08:12:00 | In order to summon an Ally Spirit, you must have a formula (which can be made by rolling out Arcana or by a run to go on a metaplanar quest for it.) You must then perform the ritual, with a force equal to the force of the ally you are trying to summon. Lacking a timespan, assume it takes 1 hour per point of force. After you successfully complete the ritual, you must summon the spirit, rolling the normal rolls for such. Spirit Whisperer does not come into play, for sanity's sake. Then, finally, you must bind the spirit (or give up and try again another day.)
- In order to alter a spirit, you must acquire the new formula or alter the old one, as detailed in the book. Then, you must perform the Ritual Change at the force of the ally spirit (the desired force, if upgrading it.) You must then bind the spirit again, though you do not have to summon it. Upon successful completion, you may spend the karma to induce any changes you designed into the formula. If you fail, you suffer drain and lose the resources expended, but do not lost the karma you would have spent and may try again. - Of extra note, applicable to the above and in other situations - If your spirit's loyalty minus your Astral Reputation is less than 2, it will try to break free as described under "Losing an Ally," whenever it is presented with a chance. | Mechanics Thread I | |

Is the Aztechnology one-shot-and-then-useless-forever, or can it be reloaded?
Aztechnology Striker: The Striker is an extremely light disposable launcher—perfect when you want to de- liver a punch and make a quick, unencumbered getaway. Wireless: You can use the wireless link trigger for your missiles, even if you don’t have DNI (Direct Neural Interface sidebar, p. 222). As far as I can see, it's basically an RPG launcher, jumped up to 2070s tech. It's cheap, it's light-weight, you can reasonable justify not reloading it and just dumping it to get the fuck out, BUT it does seem to actually be reloadable if you wanted to. | Voodoo_Templar | 12 December 2017 19:00:00 | The Aztechnology Striker is destroyed upon firing. clarify and expand the upgrade rules
Smartgun questions.
- The smartgun says it works with a cable, so do I still need an internal router to get the wireless bonus or not? - The wireless bonus is listed under smartgun system but states smartlink, which one of them technically needs to be wireless on? | xDaedalus | 9 January 2018 22:07:00 | The smartgun must be wireless on in order to receive the wireless bonus.
The accuracy bump, and only the accuracy bump, may be recieved by plugging the smartgun into a datajack and interfacing with an implanted smartlink, or by plugging it into a vision device with a smartlink. The internal router allows you to receive the wireless bonus even if you are only plugged in, and not wireless on. Related: Bioware, PT Bioware, natural weapons from other sources, including naga and changeling fangs, and changeling thagomizers | ryncewynde88 | 16 December 2017 01:16:00 | You cannot apply a weapon focus to yourself. Here's my next set of questions:
1. Can monofilament whips be used for the sweep, entangle and nerve strike maneuver? 2. Pg 119 of Run Faster states *"While these qualities are intended to be the dark side of SURGE, they can also be taken by characters looking for a little extra flavor from their character’s background, such as mysterious mutations or the side effects of gene therapies."* Can negative metagenic qualities be taken by non SURGED metatypes or metavariants on the Haven? if so how many metagenic qualities can be taken (any limits)? 3. Do you need to meet the requirements for qualities granted to you for free? For example, Dark Ally granted by Traditionalist Black Mage, which has a requirement of Binding 7 and Ritual Spellcasting 9 normally, but is given for free by TBM. Or does "free" simply mean no karma cost to buy it, but you still need to meet the requirements. 4. If you are putting digigrade legs in Obvious full legs. Does it cost capacity **and** essence? Because pg 89 of Chrome flesh is showing 4 capacity and 0.25 essence cost per leg, in addition to cyberleg essence cost. 5. Can you make called shots with the ares screech rifle (mostly wondering about CS vitals)? Also, can turning off your cyber ears give you immunity against the damage done by screech rifle? 6. Does PT bioware affect regeneration? Specifically does PT ware count as deltaware for purposes of not getting rejected by regeneration, or does it get rejected like regular bioware? 7. If you launch an impact grenade at a target A, currently subduing B. Can target A use an interrupt action to let go **and** run for their life with a single interrupt action? Or will it require two interrupts, one to let go and one to RFYL? 8. Do initiative dice from drugs (like Kami or Jazz) stack with improved reflexes adept power? | mitsayantan | 12 December 2017 03:08:00 | 1. Monofilament whips may not be used with the Sweep technique unless explicitly permitted by the GM, at their sole perogative. Monofilament whips may not be used for the Entanglement called shot, per RAW. Monofilament whips may be used for the Nerve Strike adept power.
2. This question is on hold until the selection of a permanent Chargen head. Please wait until we have one, then thread it again. 3. In order to utilize a "free" quality, one must still meet all requirements of the quality. This does not apply if the source of the free quality explicitly states that you do not have to meet the requirements. 4. Digigrade legs cost both essence and capacity. The increased essence cost is affected by 'ware grade as usual. It adds to the essence cost of the leg for the purposes of reductions. This is weird, I know but the table is *pretty clear.* 5. The Ares Screech Sonic Rifle works against targets who are deaf or who have cyberears off just the same as those who are not deaf, or who have normal ears. The Ares Screech Sonic Rifle cannot be used for called shots. I mean, seriously. Come on man. 6. Prototype Transhuman Bioware is not special. It is still detected by Assensing, and it is still rejected by those things that push out other 'ware. If this affects an active character, please reach out to Council immediately. 7. In order to exit a subduing combat as the subduer, one must take a free action. If one has a free action available, they may do this at any time, the same as most other free actions - it need not be on their turn. However, the previously subdued party is free, since they are still in contact at that point, to take an interrupt action to attempt to subue their opponent. This is a -5 initiative interrupt action as described under "Suduing" on page 123 Run and Gun. They may also attempt a Reversal using the rules found in the same section, assuming they possess the appropriate training. There is no interrupt action needed to release a subduing combat, so your original question possesses an invalid supposition. 8. Tentatively, the increased initiative from the Improved Reflexes adept power will not stack with drugs that provide bonus initiative dice. This is subject to change at a later date. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Page #52 of Run & Gun states the following regarding the **Improved Range Finder (accessory)**:
> Laser range finders are standard equipment on smartlinks, but if you have the scratch you can make its range calculation functions even better. It combines three technologies—microwave, laser, and radar—to give you an extremely accurate calculation of range. The effect of this is to reduce range modifiers by 1. This only can be used in weapons that have a smartlink; it can be positioned in any slot besides the one that has the smartlink. This bonus cannot be combined with any bonuses from image magnification **on the weapon**. Emphasis is mine. "on the weapon" very clearly states that Improved Range Finder would not stack with image magnification on the weapon, such as a scope. My mechanics question, then, is: Would Improved Range Finder stack with Image Magnification that is NOT on the weapon? Example: You fire the weapon while wearing a pair of sunglasses with Image Magnification modded into them. | Vindicer | 23 December 2017 21:20:00 | The Improved Range Finder accessory does not stack with magnification of any kind, whether or not it is on the weapon. This is a tighter reading of the rules than is strictly reading, but matches with Mechanics Team's perceived reading of the intent. | Mechanics Thread I | |

Can the Free Action 'Call A Shot' be combined with the Simple Action 'Take Aim'?
Consider the following:
---
A character may take aim with a ready firearm, bow, or throwing weapon as a Simple Action. Take Aim actions are cumulative, but **the benefits are lost if the character takes any other kind of action—including a Free Action—at any time before attacking.** Take Aim actions may be extended over multiple Action Phases and Combat Turns. The maximum bonus a character may gain from sequential Take Aim actions, either to her limit or her dice pool, is equal to one-half the character’s Willpower, rounded up.
A character may call a shot (aim for a vulnerable portion of a target) with this Free Action; see Called Shots, p. 178. **This action must be combined with** a Fire Weapon, Throw Weapon, or Melee Attack Action.
---
Emphasis is mine. The wording of those two abilities would imply they cannot be used together. If you Take Aim before you Call A Shot, then you lose the benefits of Take Aim when you use the Free Action Call A Shot. Similarly, you cannot Call A Shot before you Take Aim, as Call A Shot must be combined with an attack action. | Vindicer | 27 December 2017 04:52:00 | This question has been answered elsewhere in the thread. | Mechanics Thread I | |
Does an RCCs noise reduction and sharing rule include programs? or are they counted separately?
The section 'noise reduction and sharing' only mentions Autosofts but not Programs. And the 'rigger cyberprograms' section does not mention either way. So for a device rating 5 RCC is it "noise reduction, autosoft, and program combined total of 5" or "noise reduction and autosoft combined total of 5, and also 5 programs"? | Scarletpooky | 4 February 2018 20:46:00 | RCC noise reduction and sharing are out of a pool of Device Rating. They also slots for cyberprograms equal to their device rating. Note that in order for a program to modify an attribute, the device must possess that attribute in the first place. | Mechanics Thread I |
