Summary

An ex-private security rigger who specializes in mentally jumping into her vehicles and drones - partly due to her preference for acting in VR, but mostly because she can't really use her legs. Also highly skilled in engineering skills and solving mathematical problems and issues and applying mathematics to issues they might help solve on a Run.

Goals

Get use of her legs back. Get back at Renraku for stealing her Tech ideas and ultimately causing the Private Security Firm she was part of to dissolve due to loss of life and resources.... Plus they made her paraplegic.

Background

Mekkanyx grew up to German immigrants who had moved to Seattle right after she was born. From an early age, she was extremely interested in all things mathematic, mechanical, and technological. Breaking things down and putting them back together was a hobby, and eventually, this hobby expanded into modifying tech and creating new items altogether. She was considered something of a prodigy and was quickly admitted to Technical School when she was old enough to attend and graduated with top marks a few years later.

Shortly after graduation, Mekkanyx joined a Private Security Firm. This firm was known as The Defenders of Dawn and they were an organization that specialized in assisting particularly oppressed groups or the helpless to live their daily lives without as much fear or trouble, but they also occasionally did supply runs for corporations or independent vendors. Mekkanyx felt at home with the DoD because she had always had strong opinions on how the People were treated by the government, corporations, and other types who should have been doing all they could to help the community, but only ever did the exact opposite. Her strong opinions mostly originated from the way her father was abused by his superiors at his job in MCT to the point he committed self-unaliving and left his wife and daughter to fend for themselves.

Last year, one of the Supply Runs that Mekkanyx had been participating in was attacked by a unit of Renraku soldiers because the Megacorporation suspected the goods were stolen Renraku tech and weapons, but were actually entirely unrelated medicines and survival supplies - a fact only found out after Mekkanyx and her Firm were decimated not only in the caravan, but also at the office. Of course, Renraku would never admit that they were wrong, and Mekkanyx has had a developing vendetta against them ever since. The attack caused the loss of the feeling and mobility in her legs, and she's been confined to a wheelchair for the past year. Being unable to really go anywhere in the flesh just gave Mekkanyx a greater excuse to refine her skills as an Engineer and Technician and ultimately a Rigger for the Shadows.

Being in the Shadows suits Mekkanyx pretty perfectly because she has never been a very social person and being able to use her abilities with minimal talking is like a dream come true. This is due to the fact that Mekkanyx is autistic and also prefers talking to her drones and vehicles and tech than other people - minimizing interaction with other people whenever possible. The only times she can really bring herself to really talk to people is when it's for a job or if she is discussing something she is interested in - such as her drones or her special truck. She has never been very good at picking up on social cues and always has a weird remark to make that she thinks is relevant or appreciated, but ends up coming off as completely awkward. Sometimes she'll try to fix this awkward tension with the joke, but her jokes always fall flat because she thinks that they're "cool" based on what she's observed most people react to, but she just can't ever seem to deliver. To make matters worse, when MCT attacked the DoD and didn't listen to any explanations made by the Security Firm - thus resulting in the DoD's dissolvement and loss of personnel, Mekkanyx further retreated into her personal shell and started believing that trying to talk to others simply served no real useful purpose and has difficulty believing conversation will ever actually resolve any issues or get her anything she needs.
