Summary
Sanctus---known as Dmitri to his friends---is a young and idealistic Christian Theurge mystic adept, hoping he can do some good from the shadows and keep his own demons at bay.
Goals
Background
Dmitri Awakened early---way, way early, at the age of seven, when his astral perception activated. Growing up in a rural part of Russia that still had quite a bit of prejudice and superstition towards the Awakened, he hid his powers for years. Perhaps because of that, or perhaps because it just sensed an opportunity, a shadow spirit, what he would later learn to be a Nightmare, quickly latched onto him and played merry havoc with his mental health until he turned fourteen. At that age, his magic had become too obvious to hide---his biological parents disowned him, and he was adopted by a Catholic priest, Father Reese, who had been visiting family in the area. Reese, who was a Christian Theurge, taught Dmitri some of what he knew and introduced him to the Order of St. Sylvester. It was due in large part to Reese's and the Society's efforts, as well as the help of his patron saint, that the Nightmare was finally removed from him.
His life since then has been...something of a balancing act. Shadowrunning grew out of a late rebellious phase, then eventually into a serious pursuit once he realized how much he could genuinely help people doing it. At the same time, he is still a practicing deacon within the Catholic Church, with all the responsibility and study that entails (even if he frequently disagrees with how the Church handles things. No, especially when he disagrees.)
Narrative Significant Qualities
- Mentor Spirit (Dragonslayer): Dmitri views Dragonslayer in the guise of St. Michael the Archangel, and is very, very devoted to this patron saint of his, in part due believing that St. Michael helped him retain something of his sanity during his early years.
- Mentor's Mask: His mask manifests as his shadow gaining a pair of wings. In extreme cases, it may manifest as a halo of light around his head.
- Bilingual: Having been raised in Russia, and then brought over with his adoptive father to North America, Dmitri is fluent in both Russian and English.
- Quick Healer: Perhaps due to his, erm, frequent experience with injuries, his body responds very well to attempts to heal him. He wishes this wasn't always the case...
- Driven: Dmitri is very much still convinced that that Nightmare is still out there in the world somewhere, and he's intent on tracking it down some day and showing it just exactly what it felt like being that powerless.
- Dry Addict (Moderate, Alcohol): He's been sober for a few years now, but there was a time as a teen where he turned to drink in order to deal with...well, everything. Sometimes it still tempts him.
- Gremlins and Faraday Himself: His current theory is that his magic is interfering with the technology around him, but no matter what the root of it is, he's unfortunately still walking techbane, it seems like.
- Insomnia (Basic): Ironically, his experience with a Nightmare has caused quite a few regular nightmares of his own. He honestly can't remember the last time he had a decent night's sleep.
- Pie Iesu Domine, Dona Eis Requiem: Pain is a form of penance, for him. He knows that flagellation is the traditional method, but he's found minor burns to have the same, almost purifying effect.

He's often seen in dark clothing and his clerical collar outside of runs, and is very fond of cloaks. On very, very rare occasions (or just when everything else is in the laundry,) he might be seen in jeans, t-shirt, and an old synthleather jacket.
