Character Information

Summary

Savage is an urban hunter. Whether it's prowling through the back alleys of the city or stalking the hallways of corporate buildings, Savage does so with the ease of an alley cat. When the time comes to strike, she wields no weapons, instead striking and tearing with her own hands like a wild animal. Not raised by wolves, no, but they might well be her adopted family.

Goals

Lucy simply seeks to survive in a cruel and uncaring world. She runs in the shadows for profit and to stay out of the system. She dreams of maybe retiring to a chalet out in the woods some day.

Background

Street kids are hardly an uncommon sight in the Redmond Barrens, and Lucy started in these rather humble circumstances as well. Like her fellows she mostly survived by dumpster diving, random acts of kindness from others in the neighborhood, and running errands. A rare few escaped their circumstances, but most either picked up a low-income job in the neighborhood like bartender... or ended up in the criminal circuit.

Lucy never made many friends. She was a rather introverted person when not engaged in her violent trade. The local strays interested her far more than her peers, and it was through this connection to the wild animals of the city that she learned to channel her magic. She was no mage, though - instead she could channel that mystical force to crush bone and metal with her bare hands. Her strength made her an interesting potential recruit for the seedier underbelly of Seattle.

Ending up in one of Seattle's many wiz gangs, Lucy soon earned the nickname Savage to match the beatings the gang had her deliver. She became an enforcer, one of the people sent in when a lesson needed to be taught. She took to wearing a respirator both to conceal her own identity and to protect against toxin-traps, a preferred method of one of the local rival gangs.

For years she was just another figure in the streets, another faceless, nameless number in the government statistics. Then, in one night, Savage's life radically changed. While heading home to the barrens from collecting debts from the gang's collection racket, a firefight suddenly broke out around her. Corporate-uniformed security guards exchanged gunfire and bolts of magic with a half-dozen strange individuals. When the first round ricocheted off Lucy's armored jacket and the guards shouted about "taking out the masked girl", she knew whose side she was going to pick.

The fight didn't last more than half a minute, ending with all the guards dead on the floor. Lucy had apparently walked into the middle of one of the legendary "shadowruns". She was ready to put up her dukes, having heard the rumors of runners putting down witnesses, but instead the group clapped her on the back and chatted her up. Turned out they were a decent bunch, and they were impressed by the way the girl had fought.

Lucy came into contact with her fixer via the group: an old lady named Raine Pentsworth. For a while she acted as a street contact when asked and extra muscle when paid, gradually gaining experience in the field of running in the shadows. Soon Lucy became to do less and less for her gang and more secretive running jobs, which increased the tension between the already-introverted Savage and the bosses of her gang.

When tensions came to a head, it looked like a fight was inevitable. Lucy was ordered to return to the gang's base, with an unspoken implication that they would find her if she didn't. Figuring she might as well try to talk her way out rather than waking up with a gun to her head, Lucy returned - not knowing that the boss had been sampling his own wares. The drugs had fried the man's brain, and he had been growing more volatile. In truth, he had no plans of letting Savage run free.

Luckily for Lucy, when shit inevitably broke loose in the gang base, she wasn't alone. A team of armed men burst in seconds after the first shots were fired, and what followed was a brutal fight. Though the coked-out mages and adepts put up a harsh fight, they were eventually put down by the better equipped and experienced assistants - a team of runners sent by Granny Pentsworth, who had gotten wind of the declining situation within the gang and the meeting planned between Lucy and her boss.

Of course, sending in a team of fully-trained runners wasn't cheap. For several months after "breaking ties" with her gang, Lucy worked directly for Pentsworth, getting paid no more than she needed to keep a leaky roof over her head and to maintain her running gear. The rest of her profit disappeared into Pentsworth's pockets.

With her debts now paid off, Lucy "Savage" Blackburn has been released onto the streets of Seattle as a freelance operative, working for the highest bidder to prowl, track and crush as they ask her to.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Mentor Spirit: Wolf (Alt)

Savage may have earned her name through her brutality, but there's definitely more to it than that. The woman's mannerisms are closer to the feral than the civilized in many occasions. She distrusts most other humans, preferring to find companionship in the beasts that stalk both the back alleys of the city and the rapidly-declining nature beyond its borders. Lucy therefor follows the wolf as her mentor - but not the benevolent wolf of the Native Americans. She follows the devouring beasts from Germanic myth, the cruel survivor from Zoroastrianism, the symbol of destruction from Finnish legend. Like a true follower of the predatory Wolf, Savage will survive in this cruel and uncaring world no matter who she has to tear down for her own survival. That is not to say she does not seek her own pack... But none have proven themselves worth sticking around with thus far.

Code of Honor: Beast Spirits

Tying into her magical tradition as a Red Mage and a follower of the Wolf, Savage refuses to commit violence against spirits of the Beast, even if refusing to take action would jeopardize the run. To cross this boundary set for herself she would disrespect all that the Wolf has taught her. To strike a Beast Spirit would be like attacking a wolf in one's own pack - a betrayal of the deepest trust.

SINs

While Lucy is SINless, having grown up in the Redmond Barrens with unknown parents, she does use a fake SIN as part of her shadowrunning lifestyle:

  • Charlie Wilton: A local independent handywoman, performing odd jobs and physical tasks around the Redmond Barrens for fair compensation. "Charlie" isn't rich, but lives an honest lifestyle.
