GM Style Sheet

Hey, I'm Atlatl (at-lat-el), and I'm pretty much a full-on pink mohawk GM. Think along the lines of Guy Ritchie movies, where the subject matter might be dark, but the characters are entertaining and the situation is humorous to an outside observer. Also, everything goes terribly wrong. I'm a big proponent of sandbox gameplay and like to permit a high degree of player freedom. Hopefully this encourages players to come up with creative solutions that result in interesting complications and consequences.

I'm a believer of the safety and community policies here. If at any time you are uncomfortable or offended by the content at the table, say or type X-card and the scene will stop. You do not have to give a reason or explain yourself!

"Realism" and Consequences

I've had the great misfortune of having to train and supervise security personnel at one point in my life, along with having to develop site-specific security plans, and this colors how I plan a session. In other words, do not assume a competent or coordinated security response and expect things to get very, very chaotic if you get loud when you shouldn't have. I'm a believer in the fail forward philosophy. Don't be afraid to make a mistake; it takes a LOT of mistakes to compound into botched run, and your opponents will be making their own mistakes. If you're going up against a highly competent opponent, I'll do my best to make that very clear ahead of time.

My goal with player consequences is to be fair and to have everyone walk away thinking "yeah, I probably deserved that." If you feel something was too harsh or too lax, please let me know!

Pick Policy and Player Expectations

Here's generally how I go about deciding on picks:

  • Pick a team that will encourage player interaction. This might result in some tonal differences between characters.
  • Make sure everyone has a chance to be in the spotlight.
  • Try to get new players or people who haven't had a run in a while.

I don't always pick for archetype balance, but I'll take it into account. Please don't worry if I lose my mind and you wind up in a four rigger party, I guarantee you'll still be able to pull off the job.

My player expectations:

  • Don't be completely disruptive to gameplay or act in bad faith.
  • Try not to screw over other players intentionally.
  • Be okay with dark situations.
  • Please be respectful to everyone.
  • If you have an issue with something, please bring it up to me right away! I enjoy feedback and it helps me avoid mistakes in the future.

Hard Derails

If you have good in-character reasons for walking from a job or even going as far as switching sides, go for it! Just be aware that when I'm way off my notes (I'll inform you) things won't be progressing quite as smoothly. If this means we need to break the run up into another session, I'll let you know.
