Complications with Accepting a Job
Choosing someone to just have them decline the run (unless it's everyone, and/or I'm planning for this to occur at the start) can be messy, so I will try and avoid picks that can be disruptive to the point of stopping the run, may ask for clarification on an applying player's part.
Complications with Completing a Job
Sometimes the job the Johnson gives you is just bad, either for your health or your soul. Sometimes, that leads to subtle sabotage or outright reversal on a (or many) runners parts, however this kind of thing works best in concert with your other players, please discuss it as players before you decide on something in character.

Street-Level Shenanigans
What appeals to me most about Shadowrun's setting is the everyday occurrences and absurdity that can be easily lost on a runner who is busy planning their next dragon assassination. Sometimes you're in the wrong place at the wrong time and end up in a gang shoot out just as you go to get your dry cleaning. Maybe your trip to Kong-Wal Mart is ruined by a soldier's last bit of sanity snapping as he realizes his favorite brand of soy-izza bites are no longer on sale, and worse his dying mother asked him to get them. Or sometimes it's as simple as just a quick smash and grab, or a subtle job to ruin a new restaurant's image by influencing the locally renowned critic. Shadowrun is a serious setting, but not everything needs to be a serious world-shattering event. I believe that it devalues the material to never take a step back and see the world as a world, rather than an elaborate Horrors-fueled torture nexus. Even though it is.
