Background

Born into a well-to-do human Japanese family, Waku seemed destined for a normal life. Then puberty hit. He was an elf. Waku's father quietly arranged for Waku to live with an aunt in Seattle and made arrangements with a discreet cybersurgeon for metatype modification. His son would not return home unless he was a human.

Waku reveled in his new environment. Freed from the strict discipline of his Japanese upbringing, Waku found his aunt's "American" style of parenting liberating. He soon began ditching classes and hanging out with the "wrong crowd," engaging in minor criminal acts for fun (and minor profit). Waku's criminal career began in earnest when, with some social engineering and the aid of a decker friend, he transferred the money earmarked for his metatype modification surgery to an unscrupulous street doc for a basic set of augmentations.

Since then, Waku has been honing his skills, looking for the big score, and always looking for another piece of art to add to his collection.
