Character Information

Concept

A heavily noir-inspired, cynical investigator that solves cases with some help from the astral. Imagine a cross between Humprhey Bogart and Jon Constantine, if you will.

Goals

Background

You’ve just finished the third flight of stairs in a seedy appartment building in the outskirts of Puyallup, stepping out into a corridor.Through the first door on your left you hear a baby crying over a couple arguing in what sounds like a Slavic language. On your right there’s a door identical identical to all the other ones in the building, with one distinction: Beside it hangs a small metal plaque that reads:

PHIL HARRIS

Paranormal Investigator

You make to knock on the door but right before you can it opens. A slim, somewhat disheveled looking man in shirt, slacks and suspenders opens the door. He looks you up and down. “I had a hunch all morning.” He nods his head to his right. “Come on in. Best talk shop inside. Drink?”

The apartment looks about as roughed up as its owner: There’s various bottle lying around, the sink is filled with dishes and the whole place has a fog of cigarette smoke hovering over it. The only thing that looks a little cleaned up is the desk your seated at, with Harriss across from you.

“Let me tell you a bit about me first. If you’ve come to me, you probably can’t afford anyone more expensive. In which case you want to know if I’m any good.” He takes a pull from his cigarette.Or you can’t go somewhere better because what you want isn’t exactly legal. Then you’d like to know if I’m discreet.”

“Look, my rep depends on my clients not ending up dead or in jail. I’d sooner see my client smuggled out of town by the Ghost Cartels than dragged off by KE. Am I any good? I think so. KE-grade work. Used to work for ‘em, infact. Thaumaturgic forensics, that sort of thing. Got thrown out over...politics. Now they can’t stand me, which just as well, cause I hate ‘em too.

“Two things I don’t do, non-negotiable: No bad drek to kids. That stuff’ll stain your soul. And no blood magic. Had a partner that ended up as evidence in a bottle from that drek."

You inform about the Paranormal bit on the plaque outside. Y frowns and leans back in the chair.

Yeah, I’ve got a little Mana. Auras. Visions, too, but I don’t like doing those.Gives me the heeby-jeebies. No fancy spells, though. Usually I just have to get by on legwork and being really persistant.

He leans forward and looks you square in the eye from across the desk.

Now, what can I do for ya?”
