Summary

Carleton Moreau hires the team to steal a historical document from the Vancouver Maritime Museum and replace it with a forgery. The document is to be used to awaken a Ghost Ship, RMS Empress of China. The team succeeds in swapping documents without notice.

Background

The document, Contract between Arthur Baldwin and the Canadian Pacific Railway Company is a necessary component of the ritual to awaken the RMS Empress of China.

The Meet

Carleton meets the team at the Redmond delicatessen with food and drink. After discussion they settle on 20,000 nuyen, burner tourist visas for the SSC, free travel and accommodations.

The Plan

The runners decide to travel to Vancouver separately. Ardent and Thunder travel by sea with the smuggler and boat arranged by Carleton. String King travels overland in his own vehicle. After arriving on site they will do recon and develop a plan.

The Trip

Both components of the team have encounters en route. String King was pulled over by tribal police and harassed. He received a written warning for driving with a broken tail light [broken by the tribal police]. Ardent and Thunder are warned by the smuggler to not engage in violence if boarded by pirates. They wisely listen to the smuggler.

Arrival

Ardent and Thunder take up residence at the Burrard Civic Marina, a short walk from the museum. Strink King takes up residence in a luxury hotel in downtown Vancouver, a short drive from the museum. Magical and matrix reconnaissance ensued, including chatting up a bored security spider in the destination host.

The Run

The document is housed in the W.B. & M.H. Chung Library & Leonard G. McCann Archives. The team determines technical security [a simple rfid scanner] and human security [library intern]. After several days visiting the archive every morning they make their move; Thunder switches documents while String King distracts the intern.

Aftermath

The team has an uneventful return to Seattle where the job is finalized.

Ardent - Flawlessly executed, if I do say so myself. The job itself had some nuance to it, but nothing beyond my--I mean our--abilities. I'm left somewhat at a loss about String King's choice to travel separately from The Captain's boat, but ultimately no harm resulted from the decision. As for repercussions, I'm not particularly worried. Even if it is magically charged, the document seemed benign. And I speak Salish now!

Thunder - Chemistry with one of the team mates was difficult. Apparently, they left Seattle since, so nothing to worry about. At the end, we scored the reward and there's food on the table for another week, or year ;)
