Summary

Diplomacy often wins fights more effectively than a gun.

Background

The ISBT (International Society of Beverage Technologies) had received word a small group of runners planned to ambush a truck of theirs in shipment. Wishing to stop this they decided to fight fire with fire, recruiting a team of Shadowrunners to protect the shipment.

The Meet

Meeting in Renton, the runners stood before a giant woman acting as the Johnson for the ISBT named Ms. Brooke. After a very... awkward assensing moment amidst the runners, 2 of which not exactly... smelling their best. Regardless the negotiations commenced, where Alkali and Invictus managed to secure a slight bonus considering what the team would be up against as well as slight coverage for home expenses. Agreeing to this the runners set off to discover more about their would be attackers.

The Plan

Through Alkali's knowledge of the shadows he was able to remember information about the upstart group of runners and who was among them. Train, an augmented troll. Razor, an elven adept. Hrud, an Ogre mage. And Magpie, a mundane marksman. With this in mind the runners came up with a simple plan, find the group and convince them to back down. Huntress was able to contact one Jane Dior, who with description was able to pull up an arrest record on Magpie who was a drunkard as it so happens. Through his arrest records and Alkali's spirit, the runners managed to find a general area in Tacoma the crew likely was planning their "assault."

The runner's concocted a simple plan. Invictus and Alkali would convince them that they were betrayed, so even on completion pay would not be promised. To appease their Johnson they could stage a fight where they lost, complain their intel was shit, and demand payment regardless. Meanwhile Black Dog would act as physical intimidation and Huntress would fulfill her role as a sniper in case things went loud. With the plan completed Huntress used the information secured and began an investigation of the area in Tacoma. Looking through alley's and maneuvering over rooftops till she found a place of interest. A warehouse where upon closer inspection the crew of upstart runners was inside. With the location secured the runners headed towards the warehouse and hoped for the best.

The Run

With Huntress in her perch all the runners need do was knock and commence the negotiations. Though the direct response being to grab their weapons, take drugs, and aim at the door was not a good sign. Invictus however taking the lead calmly charisma'd his way through the front door to talk face to face. Saying that should things go south he as well as Alkali and Black Dog had several other combatants the upstart runners did not see. A stretch of the truth that caused talking to be the primary focus as opposed to where to aim. With the tensions present but slightly calmed Invictus and Alkali together near perfectly were able to pull off the con as planned. No bullets even fired once as the runners agreed to a staged performance to avoid coming to blows for real.

Aftermath

With a successful con and not a singular (lethal) bullet fired the Haven runners managed to collect their pay. Meanwhile the upstart runners were denied anything from their Johnson who... despite their connections to an Aztechnology subsidiary is... likely not in the picture anymore as an upstart shadowrunner is a shadowrunner all the same.

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Huntress

"Captain, I am pleased to report once again the run was a success. A rather clean success at that. Though my teammates raised... multiple concerns of the Haven, but those are concerns for another day. We were to protect a convoy of alcohol from the ISBT. A group of enemy runners was hired to ambush the convoy and obtain its cargo. Through quick work we found their aliases and tracked down their meeting area. My training as a sniper was valuable as I took a perch in case the negotiations turned hostile. But thanks to the work of the other runners it did not turn out that way. Their negotiation skills able to defuse the situation with surprising efficiency. We then staged a false ambush where they were unsuccessful in their ambush. I cannot say whether or not they received compensation for their efforts, though I can only hope that is the case. That is all to report, sir."

Invictus

"Yea this is JUST like running over a courtroom. A little song, a little dance, a little push here or there. Might as well have been raking some fresh faced contract lawyer over the coals on some page 17, paragraph 5, subsection 3 style drek. Frag I hope all my runs are like this... get to walk in like I own the place, talk down some folks, and walk out to get paid. Easy fraggin' money, even if I did toss them some for their troubles. Rising tides raise all boats, ya ken?"

Black Dog

It is always interesting when things manage to not go wrong and result in a job where I simply stand around while others talk. Thankfully we did not need to harm or kill anyone, including the other shadowrunners we needed to stop.
