The runners meet up with Elmo in the underground, getting the details of what is going to be a very low stakes job. All they're responsible for is ensuring that Pete is convinced of joining the Underground as talent. They'll handle their own transportation, but lodging and the like will be taken care of by the Or'zet. It was meant to be a simple payout of about 12k nuyen with 2k up front, trifling really for a trip to the Ares' sprawl area but the danger present in these poorer areas where Ares and Lonestar wouldn't touch is...probably fine enough for them to do as they please.

A well laid plan wasn't exactly necessary for a simple talent recruitment. They just needed to find where Mr. Miller would be in Cleveland, find a good chance to talk to him, and hit him with the pitch. Shouldn't be hard with such a lucrative deal. Maaaaybe they needed to keep the streets in mind, make sure nothing fishy happened? But as they arrive in the metroplex, things seem to be quiet. Things should be in and out.

That was a lie. Things were never going to be that easy.
The actual recruitment of Lil' Boom Boom? That went smoothly. The team managed to find a little spot where he was partying at a smaller little musical festival. Didn't need to stir up trouble, just let Triage get to work. Pete was fairly easy to find and then to convince as they went with him to the afterparty. The matter was as simple as making sure he can get to Seattle just fine (they had a truck with them, this was never an issue) and helping his team of friends win a game of Urban Brawl against a competing team in their lil annual competition. It'd swing them some good extra cash to help them coast along when he was gone, seeing as he was a star in this little spot (he got scouted for his explosive rap videos after all). Things were going smoothly.
Then Talon called. | |||
Talon, a black-hat handler of business from Ares Macrotechnology. Someone who knew Garuda. Someone who could make their lives a lot worse if he was crossed. After he had attempted a hack on the fly on the fly spy she had flying around for drone support and got the mark reflected, he simply decided to invite a mark and open up communications a bit more honestly. A chat between friends. Garuda and Narukami, former Ares personnel under different circumstances, were not thrilled by this idea. The group reluctantly met up with Talon at a place of their choosing, where he gave them the proposal: Since they were going to be taking one of BoxCo's employees away anyways (An SK Subsidiary), the two parties had "a common enemy", and he just so happened to have needed some files in the factory building one Pete Miller worked at. Oh, and for that building to be gone. An eye sore, honestly, no one would miss it.
The little meet is interrupted (ghouls are inconsiderate like that), but the team agrees that not taking this job is probably worse than taking it, considering their proximity to Ares home they were. But they would settle that matter after. They spend the rest of the day resting up and preparing to help Mr. Miller rig a game of Urban Brawl. They had rules in place against being too heavily equipped or magically gifted, but Buck decided he'd help out by blinding himself, the mad lad, and playing that way, as Narukami lay in wait to ambush the opposing team and Garuda did a little trolling on their devices. Triage, the actual Good Samaritan, decided to also help along with treating injuries. Which conveniently let him hold enemy players back a little longer as he helped them out. With their cheating combined, they swung the game pretty decidedly in their favor despite the opposition's well trained professionalism (and fellow cheating). After evading the hecklers in the crowd who may or may not have seen some cheating, the team began to plan out their next course of action regarding the factory infiltration. There were also moral concerns about possibly killing multiple employees in a massive explosion. Triage, being quite reasonable, actually ran the plan by the man himself, Lil' Boom Boom. The dwarven man known for doing massive explosions and being a rebel, who just agreed to leave his job and had...basically nothing to lose. Turns out, he and his group were more than happy to set the place ablaze, thankfully. So, the team just secured a way in, and figured they could do enough when inside to ensure no one there got blasted into oblivion when they got there.
Triage, Buck, and Garuda would pose as a small external inspection team with Pete's help, and Narukami would keep an eye on things outside since her cybernetics were more obvious. The infiltration went mostly well, with Garuda able to use Pete's computer as a vulnerability to get marks and set herself up so the team could get the files easily, making sure external cameras weren't an issue just in case the spider in the host was going to be a problem if they were seen. However, as they made it down into the servers and Garuda managed to disarm the data bombs and get the files, a little spotter closed in, and a spirit that had been watching over the place descended upon the team. The jig was up. Triage quickly banished the spirit and Buck grabbed the tinier teammates to run them out into the elevators as security began to mobilize. Meanwhile topside Narukami began to notice a particular black van that had been circling the area close in and stop at the building. Ares had sent a little gift for the team. Talon's superiors had apparently done some inquiry into his third party hirings after hearing what he was up to, and were very interested in what they heard about a cyborg. And oh, did they find one. But, they pulled out after a few rounds with the cyan slicer. In the ensuing chaos, the team realizes Pete had actually swiped 2 explosive charges and begun planting them ahead of them, along with beginning a timer to their detonation. They did whatever they could to knock out guards and drag them out with spirits and a Buck as the team scrambled for the truck. After some close calls and high tensions, the team drove away to a safe distance, and Lil' Boom Boom lived up to his name by blowing the place sky high and doing one last rap video before leaving Cleveland.

Summary
Elmo puts out the call for some talent acquisition in Mainland UCAS and hastily puts together a team based on some suggestions from his employers. Sending the gang to one of the filthiest sprawls in North America to hire an unassuming street level local hip hop star for Or'zet Underground. Hilarity Ensues.
Background
The Or'zet underground festival is in high gear, bringing in more and more unique artists and pulling talent from around North America, and soon the globe.
Krime Time's speech at the R&R Hall of Fame in '69 is legendary, and legendarily caustic for some. Still, it harkens to a moment in time that Crime is always pivoting his image towards, so what better way to encapsulate that Cleveland vibe than to hire some runners through an intermediary to hire an absolute street level phenom rapper and elevate him to main stage stardom overnight.
Meanwhile, Pete "Lil Boom Boom" Miller is a relatively straightforward midwestern dwarf with no delusions of grandeur who likes to rap battle on Friday nights and has no idea what is about to come calling.
The Meet
The runners meet up with Elmo in the underground, getting the details of what is going to be a very low stakes job. All they're responsible for is ensuring that Pete is convinced of joining the Underground as talent. They'll handle their own transportation, but lodging and the like will be taken care of by the Or'zet. It was meant to be a simple payout of about 12k nuyen with 2k up front, trifling really for a trip to the Ares' sprawl area but the danger present in these poorer areas where Ares and Lonestar wouldn't touch is...probably fine enough for them to do as they please.
The Plan
A well laid plan wasn't exactly necessary for a simple talent recruitment. They just needed to find where Mr. Miller would be in Cleveland, find a good chance to talk to him, and hit him with the pitch. Shouldn't be hard with such a lucrative deal. Maaaaybe they needed to keep the streets in mind, make sure nothing fishy happened? But as they arrive in the metroplex, things seem to be quiet. Things should be in and out.
The Run
Then Talon called.
After some close calls and high tensions, the team drove away to a safe distance, and Lil' Boom Boom lived up to his name by blowing the place sky high and doing one last rap video before leaving Cleveland.
Aftermath
Talon sneakily copied the files from Garuda during the chaos of their escape, easily getting his marks on her as he leaves her a little cute message. "Can't blame a guy for trying." Garuda and Narukami were not amused by this.
Pete and Elmo meanwhile, got along swimmingly, and the recruitment went off without a hitch. Lil' Boom Boom will make a fine addition to the event.
The team got their payout, both from Elmo (with a little bonus!) and from Talon, and walked away from this with the only long lasting scars being mental.
Oh and Triage scored a cool 300 from a bit of side betting on the Urban Brawl game. Rigging is a common practice in the shadows after all.
