Background

Xayah was born under the full moon in the ancient forests of the Pacific Northwest, an Ursine Shifter with Dryad heritage. As an albino bear cub with shimmering, bioluminescent fur, she was a rare being blessed by nature, but destined for things far from it's comforts.

Her tranquil life ended when corporate hunters captured her, drawn by legends of an albino bear with mystical powers. Imprisoned and subjected to cruel experiments, Xayah's latent metagenic traits were forcibly awakened through a Sudden Recessive Genetic Expression (SURGE). However, the experiments had unforeseen consequences. She shifted, the allure that she had before multiplied as her sentience and SURGE awoken inside of her. The corporation intended to exploit her new abilities, but with the aid of a spirit and new mentor that had taken to her, and a surge of mystical power, Xayah escaped. Now free yet lost in the urban sprawl of Seattle, Xayah grappled with the challenges of metahuman society. Uneducated and unfamiliar with technology, she relied on her intuition and deep connection to nature. Her Glamour drew people to her, while her albinism and bioluminescent glow made her stand out.

Though, this would only carry her so far. Looking the way she did caused her more issues than it solved. A Dryad posing as a Troll of any kind was a heavy weight to hold. Even if she didn't know when she got the augmentation, she remains unsatisfied with her current form. Shifter or not, the constant attention and the like drew her to change, but it wasn't enough. She runs now to try to keep those around her safe by snuffing out the 'bad guys', but just found that her work created more issues than it solved. Though, it was all she knew how to do. So she keeps pushing.

Koi, or rather, a woman named Jessie. She lacked a real last name, but was given the task of forging her a new identity as she makes her way into Seattle to work. So, piece by piece, she laid the foundations and paved the road ahead of her for success. Until she didn't... seeing the horrors of the runner's life, and experiencing second hand the dissonant code that she had contracted. She wasn't the same afterwords. Months passed, and the foundations shook as Koi rocked her world. Her plans failing to take her to victory, inches from discovery. Xayah pushed her off the path she had set for her, and Koi's life came crashing down outside the loose grip that Horizon kept on her. Koi died, and with her she took a bit of Xayah with her. She had built her life from scratch, and the abrupt and visceral nature of her death... The fact Xayah had been accessing her memories during her death, trying to tell her not to do it. Xayah's memories had been ripped from her in an instant. Koi's death stripping her of her sanity as the death took a fragment of Xayah's soul with her.
