Summary
Total time: 6 hrs 10/11: 6 hrs 10/14: Pending
Background
"This is a tough one, and a higher rate of pay than I usually kick out. Clean job, but a rough one. I'll have details at the meet, but this one is definitely going under the waves to a CAS Facility.." -Vic
The Meet
The team arrives at the meet, the Barn Burner in Auburn which is a Suiox Nation style restaurent for people who like real food. The team meets Vic in the back room and goes over the job. He explains how the CAS has a vault system which acts as a techno-jail or a storehouse. The goal is to have some biotech stolen from the vault, which is located underwater. Used for storing difficult or "must be kept unconscious" cybercriminals.
Vic has some fake IDs for us to get in and out as technicians, one guard, and one prisoner (Narukami). Our goal is to sneak in, break out a security animal - a warform chimera - and then get back out. It is a prototype security alligator.
Transit is handled through a regular cycle of acquatic vehicles. Payment is agreed upon as:
- 20K Payout.
- 5K Up Front.
- Additional 2K Up front Bonus.
- Free meat and veg meal.
- PCs need to get to Richmond, VA, CAS. Vic can assist but not out of pocket.
- If Doc Vega does not show there's 7K floating.
- R6 Burner SINS for everyone: 1 Driver (NPC), Techs (3), Prisoner (1), Guard (1)
The Plan
Get order inserted that gator is being transported
Plan A
- Go in in disguise
- Hand over prisoner
- Sedate / Magic Tongue gator
- Leave via how we came in
- Prisoner leaves with gator
Plan B
- Leave via stolen sub from the base
Infiltration:
- Guard: Samael
- Prisoner: Narukami (sword smuggled in)
- Technician: Itsy Bitsy
- Technician: Chameleon (RPC cloak smuggled in)
The Run
Legwork
T6 Search On Vault 29: Built on the wall of the continental shelf outside richmond VA in 2077. Tech came from Atlantean Foundation, CAS Gov, Proteus Corp.
3 Story, 2 foot thick reinforced Plascrrete and Steel Walls. One airlock for the standard submersibles.
One additional lower pool airlock at bottom of facility for repair/storage/emergency access of submersibles.
The building serves as an interim holding facility and interrogation/vivisection facility for runners and major scientific threats that the CAS govt steals, captures, and handles.
Security includes about 28 on site Grunts serving as gaurds from internal and external threats (TL 6), a Task Mage, a Spider, a Biologics Specialist, and a small research staff of a half dozen or so.
Cameras on every floor, Turrets on airlock floors. Ships in and out are pre scheduled a week in advance. Your cover is a small maintenance team as well as a prisoner drop off of a cyborg.
Persons of Interest
- Mage: Ramon Diez - Local hermetic task mage. Water mage/summoner. Generally lives in the vault. Lots of fiberoptic and magesight. IG2
- Spider: "Sturgis" Aka Channing Sturgis - will be in city in three days. Straigedge. Good gear, but not as good as he thinks he is.
- Biologics: Dr. Irene Blakovsky Biotech specialist
- R&D Director: Jenny Murphy - Tends to take time off base out of state.
Host of Interest
- CAS Government
- Richmond Local Government
- Atlantean Foundation
- Proteus Corp
Info from Infobrokers via Chameleon:
- Gemstone Security: A Rated Corporation.
- Gemstone is almost entirely composed of former CAS Special Forces, and is clearly a pipeline to black/covert operations.
- They have 22 Guards on site, 4 per floor in a staggered shift. So 4-5 active per floor with the rest sleeping in bunks on the bottom level.
- They get swapped out en masse once monthly.
- Submarine Schedule heading out from Richmond this month has an arrival 1 day before your sub (the decker) and the next 2 days after (The R&D Director leaving)
- Grunt swap will be in about 7 days from our job day.
- Floorplans, turret locations, and camera locations
- Maglocks and physical locks
Heading to the Warehouse: Cybertech Convention Site
The team meets up with "Twitchy" our local contact and driver. He has clearly earned his name given the team catches that he's more than a little strung out. Twitchy sets up our disguises and information while Itsy goes and hunts the other decker to bully him around a bit.
We're able to get the files from the security spider due to Itsy, which includes all the maps and security layouts for the underwater base. We also have documents to edit and forge for transfer paperwork for the gator.
Running the Underwater Site
Twitchy gives us a fake CCU to be able to fool the guards into thinking that the "prisoner" is coming in with their body under remote control and the "brain" outside of it.
The team gets all prepared and gets loaded onto the sub. Itsy Bitsy gets the file set up on the sub, adding the forged document which indicates a "transfer" of one of the alligators in order for the team to exit with the gator and some kind of carrier.
The team is met at the door when an alarm goes off as they arrive - nanite sensors went off on Twitchy. The guards take him into custody and the team is relatively certain they're worried about Twitchy being a monad.
The guards take "the prisoner" off for processing alongside the suspected Monad, which means we'll need to find a new pilot to get out. The team gets spllit up as Chameleon and itsy stays with Narukami and Sam, as the "guard" goes down to the third floor where the guard station is.
In the drone lab, Naru realizes tht most of the drones and borg parts here look fairly similar to how she does - clearly from the same run of cyborgs. One of them is named Fogerty, who Chameleon recognizes from shadow community.
Sam realizes he is more or less trapped on the third floor due to not having the right passkey; while his skeleton keycard will work it'll also tip off the guards.
Meanwhile, Chamelon and Itsy start chatting up the lab techs about their schedules and some of the locks. Notably, the lab is an R6 maglock, while most of the other locks are keylocks; Chameleon in his guise as a lock technician gets it disabled without tripping any alarms.
The director gets the "transfer order" for the gator and flips out on Itsy and then, later, Sam, before going to write a strongly worded letter. Sam checks out the sub and realizes it has a rotor mode also and begins doubting his ability to pilot the stupid thing out.
Itsy gets into the Host and begins to dig around in order to try and get the nanites off Narukami from our oops-totally-a-monad pilot. Itsy Bitsy starts doing matrix magic and Sam goes to narcojet the spider who, as it turns out, was on the lower level with him.
One spider down, Chameleon "accidentally" hits the mage sight with spray paint and then nerve strikes the lab person. Naru pulls the monad equipment out of herself, and pulls her disguise off. Chameleon puts on his RPC cloak. Narukami realizes that the drone parts here are important to her and she needs to take them out with her, though it adds a new complication. They also discover an AI trapped in a Faraday cage that clearly wants to be released. They grab the AI and the drone, Chameleon shifts down to a snake and gets into the duffle bag.
Itsy gets control of the turrets to cover their exit while Sam begins hassling the guards near the front to try and resolve the gator issue, allowing Narukami to slip past with Chameleon and the drone in tow.
Samael continues to hassle the guards for the gator while Naru and Chameleon slip back into the sub with Itsy, who begins to try and spoof the director's commlink in order to give the team "early leave permissions." Sam manages, mostly due to some quick fast talking and Itsy's matrix support, to talk them into prepping the gator. Some slab later, and NUMEROUS plastic restraints, the hogtied gator is brought onto the sub.
Sam and Itsy discusses with the AI on the stealth chip and get the impression that it just wants to go off and do its own thing. The team generally doesn't trust it and Chameleon says he can pilot the sub.
While making their escape, the water elemental slams into the sub and engulfs it. Chameleon is able to pilot the sub out of it and get them to about 14m from the surface. As the chase is on, the sub gets to the surface and the runners move out onto the deck of the sub to attack the spirit. During which, Sam hits the gator with another round of Slab to keep it under. They manage to discorporate the spirit and beat a hasty, if wet, retreat.
Aftermath
- One gator, drugged and delivered.
- One AI, turned loose with a small submarine. What could go wrong?
- One less Monad. Alexa, play despacito.
- A clean run and a clean payment, despite some harrowing close calls.
