Summary

Armed with a smile and a Sociology degree, Baji recently moved to Seattle from Toronto with his significant other, Jessica Anderson a theatrical agent on the rise. Baji is a social adept doing face work in the shadows. He learned hard bargaining during the same bad times has he learned about soup kitchens. Although new to Seattle, the shadows are an improvement over semi-starvation as an actor in Toronto. He is a face & body sculptor and has several rehearsed personae. He can provide combat support with rifle and shotgun but combat is not his forte.

David Smith was born to to Athena Gataki & John Smith, an upper-middle class couple in the Greek Town neighborhood along the Danforth.

Toronto’s main legitimate industries are finance, Matrix tech, and entertainment. The city is the third major financial center in the UCAS after Boston and New York, home to a large number of corporate and foreign-owned banks and trading houses. It has its own stock exchange, which sees a brisk business each day, and there is no lack of insider trading and datasteals that go along with it. Toronto has a thriving computer hardware and software industry, mostly start-ups and “cottage” operations specializing in software or making better widgets for computers and cyberdecks. Toronto is also the entertainment capital of the UCAS. When the UCAS lost California and Nashville, and most of its major film and television industry, New York and Toronto tried to take up the slack. Toronto proved the better venue for most entertainment corps, which bought up land and set up facilities here. Vision-Quest, NBS, Mediaworks, Brilliant Genesis, and others maintain studios here. John Smith spent several years working at Zurich-Orbital Bank but switched to venture capital syndicates when David was born. Athena Gataki was a successful brand manager at Brilliant Genesis but set up a consulting firm when she became pregnant.

David was a bright inquisitive child. He learned to read at an early age and consumed literature at a prodigious rate. David was popular at school even before he awakened; with magical enhancements developing over time he blossomed. His sophomore year started well enough but then he started seeing auras around people...and having dreams. Not every night, and not all dreams occurred later. But some did.

After high school, David attended the University of Toronto where he acquired twin master's degrees in Sociology and Theatre & Performances Studies. During this period he also met Jessica Anderson. After graduation Jessica went to work at a theatrical agency and David went to work as a minimum-wage service worker looking for acting gigs. Jessica's job went brilliantly, she was looking like a fast-tracker. David got lots of roles but few were paid. He learned about soup kitchens and sleeping rough. He did have a steady supply of mid-day meals; lunches with Jessica on the corporate cred stick. Over time David's jobs were shadier but paid for a low lifestyle. Jessica's were more upscale and paid even better.

David was devastated by his parent's deaths in an automobile accident on the 401. Jessica helped him through the aftermath. Then Jessica's life took a turn for the worse; assaulted by a new client. David helped her deal with the aftermath. Their twin travails had the effect of forming a strong bond between them. The two decided to relocate to Seattle and leave bad memories behind. They were almost done packing for their flights when the news broke that the body of Jessica's assailant had been found.
