Overview
Nishioka Nishiki, aka Kurukuru, was a publicist at Shoedensha!, a small publishing house in Japan notorious for its harsh work environment, earning it the label of a "black company." She managed the studio’s top artist, Takatsuki Sen, with whom she shared a tense and often strained working relationship. Despite Kurukuru’s dedication to promoting Sen’s work, the stress of Shoedensha!'s demands and their clashing personalities led to frequent friction between them.
After an earthquake in Japan left Takatsuki paralyzed, Kurukuru made the life-changing decision to leave Shoedensha! and accompany her to Seattle. This drastic move wasn’t just about supporting Sen’s physical recovery but also reigniting her passion for manga, which had faded in the wake of her injury, as well as to calm her own senses and try to learn to be less of a jerk.
Now living in Seattle, the two have grown close, their relationship transforming from strained professionalism to a deep friendship.
