Summary

An object of immense power was taken from some even more powerful people who were going to look into its capabilities. This displeased them greatly, and thus they hired runners to handle the situation. By the end of the night, that same group got their gem back, along with a club full of smoke and corpses.

Background

The Dunklezahn Institute of Magical Research, one of the many dozen corporations borne from the will of the late Great Dragon, had taken to Seattle for the sake of acquiring a particular Ruby that was said to have immense power. A gem from the time of King Solomon of Judaea, and with powers that were not quite yet understood. They had located it in the hands of a collector, finalized a deal to have it transported up to Bellevue where the institute's representative, Madame Maya Velt, awaited, but something went wrong. Their transport was attacked somewhere between Renton and Bellevue as it traveled from Tacoma where the collector's stores had been. They had managed to pick off some of the attackers, but unfortunately could not stop them from taking the Jewel itself. In need of a swift retrieval, Madame Velt resorted to the Shadowhaven network, cautious but expectant of good results.

The Meet

Madame Velt met the team of Anansi, Kong, Red Rover, and Limitless in her apartment in Bellevue, having given them a password to get in. She explained the details of the job to them and gave them a deadline for retrieval: 8 hours to have it back to her, with her already providing a lead in the form of a body that had been retrieved from the site of the attack. She offered 10k nuyen per head for the job, which Limitless and Anansi were a bit skiddish of, and thus threw in the additional prize of potential reagents and magical equipment for those so inclined with the promise for more if there was more than they had bargained for on the job. In agreement, the team immediately (admittedly, impatiently) got to work investigating.

The Plan

Through a combination of remembered gang information and assistance from (chatty) Crimson Crush contacts, the team was able to identify the body as being a member of the Rat Eater gang, a small time gang under the employ of the Yakuza who did their bidding when the syndicate didn't want to put the time, effort, or dignity into dealing with a matter themselves in Renton. They were able to use a commlink that was hacked into by said contact to find the location of a strip club that the Rat Eaters were using for their base of operations, and fell into a loose plan of operation.

The Run

After having arrived from their time at Crusher 451 to meet with Red Rover's Homie, the team gathered outside the brothel known as Snake Eaters and began looking into information on how to get in. Limitless and Kong went to the back with Kong receiving a quick spell of Gecko Crawl from Anansi beforehand, trying to sneak up and find any cameras or other entrances. The two did find an entrance, nearly being caught by the guard back there when they did so, before Limitless doubled back and helped Kong kill said guard.

With a cheeky smile and wave to the camera, it was clear there were already people on the inside mobilizing for a fight. A guard was going to head inside after closing up the club, but Anansi's Influence led him to the back alley where Red Rover finished him off swiftly. As the team tried to organize themselves into a proper strike force, two spirits appeared behind Kong and Limitless, and the team realized they were just going to have to fight it out.

They did so with worrying aplomb. From controlling the thoughts of the heavily wared front man for the club to swiftly beating down the spirits that assailed them to using a fucking grenade to destroy almost everyone inside the building, the majority of threats in their way were dealt with right away. The leader of the establishment, Solomon, did use a number of tricks to try and slow down and reverse the situation, but realizing he couldn't outlast the entire group of four even when he was invisible given they knew about his illusion, he tried to negotiate instead. The team agreed, with Limitless taking it at face value and agreeing to letting him walk away if he complied and Anansi going for a mind probe instead. She got the information she wanted out of him and Kong knocked him unconscious immediately, to the chagrin of Limitless who thought that he had been shockingly compliant and didn't deserve the stab in the back. Half the team got to searching his office for and eventually found the ruby, while Anansi and Limitless had a small spat over what to do with Solomon. Limitless, not realizing Anansi was a banshee and wanted to drain his essence, simply wanted to get him out of the way of Knight Errant given he was screwed over. Anansi did eventually agree to this, but only once she realized the Yakuza's chemist was alive, if barely, for her to eat instead.

Aftermath

The team managed to exfil long before Knight Errant arrived on the scene in this shadier part of Renton. Solomon, as he introduced himself to Limitless after she woke him up in an alley out of the way, thanked her for her assistance as she apologized for what the team did. He told her he might be able to help her out should they ever meet again which she heavily doubted would ever happen, and she told him to stop using mental manipulation in a likely vain attempt to reform him. Solomon, along with the Decker he had hired and whom Limitless also spared and the yakuza member that Anansi did not completely drain, managed to escape into the night alongside the team, power cut after the entire gang was basically wiped out.

The team returned to Madame Velt, who was pleased with how things went and how they eliminated that threat and got back the ruby, was more than happy to pay them in items, cash, and even future contact through her to her organization (Despite the team shit talking the new painting she had acquired for being bloody and kind of morbid).
