Summary
The runner team fight a car and bully a cloud.
Background
A woman in Auburn wakes to find her Ford Econovan driving off down the street, a trail of destruction in its wake.
The Meet
The runners meet with the J, a surly orkish woman who informs them of the situation, and offers them 2,000 nuyen each to deal with the car thief, a further 2,000 nuyen if they can bring the van back to her, and an extra 2,000 on top if the damage isn't extensive enough to necessitate repairs. The runners, particularly Suzanna, press her for information, suspecting that she might be hiding something, but, as far as they can tell, nothing is particularly amiss.
The Plan
The runners depart in Ace's sedan, save for Suzanna, who rides behind them on her motorcycle. They plan to intercept the car (currently headed for Downtown through Renton), then have Catharsis disable it with her deck while Black Samurai leaps onto it to wrestle control from the driver.
The Run
The runners pursue the van by following the trail of destroyed buildings, wrecked vehicles, and inordinate number of splattered fruit stands. Eventually, through their own eyes and judicious application of a FlySpy, they find the car menacing a pair of pedestrians, and intervene, hoping to wrap things up before Knight Errant can arrive.
The runners quickly discover the van's lack of visible driver, and (by firing a number of bullets into the front seat) confirm that it's either being operated remotely or controlled by a spirit. They narrowly dodge being rammed by the car, and Black Samurai leaps onto the roof of the van, steadying himself by lodging his katana into it, and shrugging off the shock from the van's security system. Suzanna is less lucky, taking some damage when she punches the van with a shock glove. Frostbite, meanwhile, attempts to seduce the car into submission, though, unfortunately, fails.
Black Samurai is thrown from the roof of the car, and though he manages to break the driver-side window, doesn't manage to climb inside. Luckily, Catharsis takes control of the car, and Ace (borrowing her deck) manages to force it to stop. At that, the exhaust fumes intensify, coagulating into a toxic air spirit. It lunges for Black Samurai, but fails to connect, and the party quickly exorcise it with extreme prejudice.
Aftermath
The runners manage to sneak past Knight Errant and return the J's van to her. Ace even throws in some safe routes to take it to be refurbished, and, in gratitude, she offers to introduce the runners to her vehicle guy.

To be Seattle's best smuggler is to accept some days you're going to be driving down the road chasing a car being taken for a joy ride by a mutated possession spirit as the only person remotely capable of driving leaps from the window to get his sword deep into it. I have never been more glad to have matrix support on a mission because I know if Catharsis didn't hack that car I'd have had to frag it. Anyway we took smuggler routes back, some of which I had to pull out of my ass at the last second, but all in all mission success with minimal notice and vehicular damage.

Well then, that was certainly... exciting! So much fuss over just a car. I still think it would have been best to write it off, but I'm not complaining if someone else is paying! I do think I might have misjudged things a bit trying to punch a car with an electric security system, but c'est la vie!
Catharsis:

I'm glad I ended up being useful, as hacking the car was the easiest and least violent way to get it back--Not that it didn't mean throwing Black Sam off and giving both Sam and Suzanna a few shocks for their trouble.
