Summary

Two runners head to a Stuffer Shack to pick up some post-run snacks and end up stopping a robbery with hyperviolence.

Background

W and Shlice have just finished an unspecified job together in Redmond, handling some minor threats, and are tired and hungry after their efforts. On their way back into civilization proper, they spot a rundown Stuffer Shack and decide it'd be the perfect place to grab a bite to eat and relax after a job well done. Unfortunately, a group of drunk, rowdy minor members of the Red Hot Nukes have decided they'll be attempting to rob the place at the same time.

The Meet

W and Shlice wander the dingy convenience store, picking out their preferred snacks. Shlice goes for a canned green tea flavored synthetic caffeinated beverage and a pack of cookies, W goes for a soydog that's been on the roller grill for far too long and a beer. Four drunk, disorderly dwarves in Red Hot Nukes colors wander in and start causing a ruckus in the aisles, and the runners both notice they're armed and eyeballing the exhausted ork teen working the cash register.

The Plan

The runners decide they should step in so the poor kid didn't get hurt. W steps out and grabs her Krime Stopper shotgun from her Scoot, and Shlice tries to subtly warn the clerk about the four dwarves. The meth head in line in front of Shlice starts shouting at and insulting him for cutting in line, but Shlice manages to ignore Thunderbird's urging to retaliate and gets the teen to take a look towards the back of the store. His eyes go wide and he tries to activate the security shutters around the register, but the store as a whole is poorly maintained and the shutters get stuck halfway down.

The Run

The dwarves notice the attempt at closing the shutters and drunkenly accuse Shlice of being a snitch while they draw their weapons. W comes back just in time to blast a Stick n Shock slug at one of them, instantly stunning him into unconsciousness. Shlice rushes at another, incensed by the rightful accusation of snitchery, and with a single stroke slices the man's chest open and fills the Stuffer Shack with blood. Full of liquid courage and with the runners moving too quickly to properly react to, the remaining gangers try to fight back. Shlice cuts down another, splitting him from crotch to crown, and W knocks the other on his ass with another SnS slug and finishes him off by stomping on his sternum when it was clear he was still conscious. With a sickening crunch, she realized that may have been overkill with how lightly armored the man was.

Aftermath

The frazzled Stuffer Shack clerk thanks the runners for stopping the attempted robbery before the gangers could hurt him, and tells them to not worry about paying for their snacks. He's not confident that Knight Errant would actually show up if called, this far out into Redmond, so he offers Shlice a shower token to clear the dwarf blood off of himself. The water's cold and not the cleanest, but it does the job. With snacks in tow, the runners get on their respective bikes and head off into the night.
