Character Information
Summary
Barrens-born anarchist Chaote spellslinger who unfortunately looks exactly like a man who is wanted by the church for spilling Vigila Evangelica secrets and heresy.
Goals
Live it up good in a permanent high lifestyle
Start his own magical anarchist community / antifa cell, inspired by the DKMU from all the way back in the 5th world.
Find out why the hell the Catholic Church wants him dead, or who the Church actually wants dead.
Support Mana for everything it's given to him.
Break down Consensus Reality and rebuild it in a far better state. (Chaotes are weird)
Background
2048, big year - Immortal 8 got found out as mind-mage musical wannabes, TerraFirst! bombed a Seattle plant leading to a large lawsuit, and Maria Mercurial was on a roll. Oh, and two shadowrunners shagged a few months earlier - Mr. Doors and Speedball - creating Kevin Ghostkeeper out in the Barrens. Life's already weird for Barrens kids, but when you got two parents whose job is to do a lot of strange white collar crime, you don't end up growing up right. Of course, they tried to be there, but Mr. Johnson's siren song in the form of credsticks meant that Kevin had a lot of baby-sitters. In fact, a day before the kid turned 13 and slot got weird, they both ended up dead - not with him looking over the bed, but alone and in more of a liquid form thanks to two tons of concrete that got blown out thanks to their drek-head decker's bomb going off too early. He would've probably had his story end a fair bit from there if, when slot got weird, it got weird in a normal "oh it's a shadow spirit" sorta' way - not what happened to him. The world looked strange to him, and it was damn hot. So hot, it was burning, but instead of becoming a charred corpse, that flame projected from him into a condensed form, wrapping around him as he rose off the floor - twerp was a wizzer! Though, having runner parents and barrens friends, this sure as shit was not a ticket to any corp that'd just use him - no, instead it was a ticket to joining a few of his friends who were a bit more magically experienced in a wizgang called the Sons of Thanateros.
That didn't last long, about 3 months and a credstick in, mid-shakedown of some wageslaves, his best-bud Ronny tried to look nova and ended up blasting his brain with so much drain he had to get treated at an ABC field hospital to not die. There goes that path in life, as they quit soon after. However, opportunities seem to love Kevin, and he ended up being found by two men, Johnny Stone and Kurt Lennox, who adopted him. They also were chaotes working with the organisation Mana, which he would learn from in order to not end up burnt to a crisp from his own spells. Turned 18, got a Fake SIN, and he became a streetmage doing whatever got him nuyen. Stuck with it for a long while, til' he was 25, even meeting up again with Ronny who was now a shadowrunner! He always admired that, saw it as really takin' it to the man as he was - and still is - a hardline anarchist. Nothing ever stays cool for Kevin though, and this wasn't any different.
25, he and Ronny hitting The Skeleton looking to get smashed and maybe do some smashing. It was an off-day, Ronny got a big score - at least for street level runners - and he wanted to celebrate. However, someone else was also planning on that bar: some priests from the Catholic Church. While normally they're supposed to not let it be known they're priests while at a bar, seeing Kevin - who exactly like one Norville Craddock, a man wanted dead by the church for some pretty serious heresy - that cover was gone, and instead, guns came out. Fuck. He had to bail after a very quick skirmish, a lucky shot ripping a hole straight through the lungs of Ronny and ending him right there - his best friend who'd been there since he was a kid, dead in just a few shots from some choir boys. Well, odd-jobs wouldn't cut it anymore, he needed a new gig. That gig would be recommended by Abracadebra at Mana - he could be a runner too. He wasn't exactly about to turn down the idea once he learned that she was a fixer, and to the street he went.
Running's good work, but it also leads to some rather interesting situations. About 9 years in - yeah that's right, he spent a long time doing street level shit - he'd be on a run and find himself opposed to a magical PI. It was a normal gig, at least that is until they got caught - everyone else was off some half mile out while he was left alone with this ork chaote known only as Psychonaut, and he knew this would end only if one of them was knocked out cold. It was a spell duel, mana flying like it's half off, and after being flung with some crazy knock-back from a unique spell the incredibly skilled Psychonaut threw, he had to do or die. If he fell, he would've broken his neck, but thanks to his quick thinking and his ice wall spell, he was able to slide down, impressing the ork, but not enough to make him concede. It was quick from there for Psychonaut to win, but he seemed rather proud of the creative thinking Synchromystic showed, and would end up becoming a friend with him - eventually mentoring him, as Psychonaut's spellcasting skill is some of the greatest in Seattle. Eventually, a few more years would pass, more run-ins with the church, and he'd end up in the Haven - lookin' for money, power, and to find out who the fuck the church actually wants - because with how much they want him dead, they've gotta be confusing him with someone else.
Narrative Significant Qualities
Positive
Sensei (Jimmy "Psychonaut" Joe) - That ork mage who whooped his ass ended up becoming one of his best friends, and his mentor. Sometimes, lessons and fun can be one in the same, barhopping to make you a better spellslinger can sometimes work.
Mentor Spirit (The Red Queen "Ellis") - Based on a Godform from an old 5th world group known as the DKMU - which most people don't believe ever existed given the apparent lack of magic in the 5th world - Ellis is the mentor spirit of Synchromystic. She inspires chaos as that chaos helps disrupt the Monolith - consensus reality.
Negative
No Man Left Behind - More of a hooder than anything, Synchromystic cannot possibly leave behind fellow runners to die. Especially not as the memory of being powerless against the guys who killed Ronny still burns strong.
Wanted (100,000¥ Dead - Issued By The Catholic Church) - A bounty put up on Norville Craddock normally wouldn't be a problem for most people. However, most people don't look like an exact body-double of Norville Craddock. Synchromystic does. As such, the Church think that he's Norville Craddock, leaving a massive cash payout to any snot-nosed drekhead to give his scalp up to the Vatican.
Trivia
- Massive disco-head. He adores the genre and will do the disco-finger while dancing whether anyone wants him to or not.
- Thanks to his parents being runners, he heard a fair bit about some runners, and ended up becoming a fan of the Jackpointer Elijah. He thinks that his outlandish theories are a mixture of raw creativity - one of the most powerful tools of a mage - alongside tiny kernels of gnosis, delivered in the form of insane conspiracy theories: a modern day mythmaker. Creative historism is an occult tradition - Elijah is one of many in this long deific tradition of altering objective past for magical power.
- Adores soap operas, even if in the same breath he'll say they're all terrible trash.
- Big father's boy, very appreciative to both of his adoptive dads, who are actually still alive - shocking for a runner, I know.

1 | Synchromysticism is the idea of finding self-actualisation in synchronicity, a portmanteau of Synchronicity and Mysticism. |
3 | I can't believe it - another chaote runner, who would've thought. Seems to be associated with Mana. |
6 | Kid born from runners, grew up entirely in the Barrens, and still lives there. |

1 | One in the massively long line of "barrens boys turned chaote spellslinging shadowrunners", it's surprising he doesn't have a trenchcoat or work for a magical PI. |
3 | This guy is a real full on chaote, subjective reality and all, but also apparently was a street level runner for way too long. |
5 | Born from runners, friends with runners, literally everything he's been around has had runners somewhere. |

Character Plot Hooks
Here are characteristics of the character that GMs may take advantage of to add complications to runs, or to otherwise use when in use. If you want to use them in unrelated to runs, please ask first.
Aspect | Information | Related Run(s) |
---|---|---|
I'll Believe You | Synchromystic is a chaote through and through - he lives, breathes, and shits chaos magic, theory and practice. Runs relating to chaos magic are his jam. | |
Who The Fuck Is Norville Craddock? | Being an exact look-alike of Norville Craddock, the church wants Synchromystic dead because they think he's Norville. Runs involving the church or Norville can be fun. | |
Man-o-Me-o-A | A member of Mana, Synchromystic is quick to give back to them for what they gave for him. | |
Not-So Teenage Anarchist | Viewing all systems of hierarchy as tools of coercion, Synchromystic is a proud anarchist and also supporter of antifa movements and cells. Death to the Man, the people should rule. | |
The Pinhead Disco Club | One day, Synchromystic dreams of starting his own group of chaos mages, inspired by the works of the 5th world such as the Marauder Underground, and planning on using similar methods. Runs relating to achieving that goal, or 5th world chaos magic groups are his style. |
