A mess of a mage out to better her life and the life of her sister while surviving the shadows.

Background

Born to Hayashi Itsuki (林湊) and Hayashi Nanami (林七海), a family of blue collar workers, Hayashi Aoi (林葵) led her life like most others in the Sixth World. Her family was hard working but was able to keep afloat in the tumultuous times made by the Corporations at the top and the gangs at the bottom. Her life was turned on its head the night of her Awakening, the same night her sister, Hayashi Ren (林蓮), was born. For reasons she still doesn't know to this day her father left shortly after her sisters birth. There was no warning she could see, no fighting, shouting, anything. Her father simply packed some things up when she was at school and wasn't there when she came home. Her mother changed after that, blamed her younger sister for being born and Aoi for Awakening, adding stress to their life. With plenty of corporate pressure now appearing at Nanami's job, her struggles with money, and raising sisters, one of them a newly minted mage, she started to crack, turning to alcohol and eventually drugs. Aoi would find herself taking beatings to protect her sister on a semi regular basis. When Aoi was seventeen she accidentally summoned a spirit during one of the beatings. The spirit acted in her defense and injured Nanami, after seeing her mother become terrified of her Aoi quickly grabbed Ren and crammed what little they could into some luggage while her spirit watched Aoi's mom. The next few years saw Aoi struggle to keep Ren in school and a roof over their heads, taking odd jobs where she could, delivering soy pizza, cleaning dishes, scrubbing floors. She knew she could walk in any corpo building and turn her and her sister's life around in minutes flat, but she still blamed the Corporations for what they had done to her family, if even indirectly. Then there was the unsettling rumors she had heard about what happened with wage mage's, families held hostage, implanted bombs, and other unpleasant things. An odd job she found her footing in was running packages, things that people either didn’t want going by mail or didn’t trust sending by drone. Her early footing in this sort of odd mail service was after she had begged Elijah Warrington, a talismonger, for any odd work he had that needed done. And so it came that she moved packages for first Elijah, and then others he recommended her to. Nothing big, dangerous, or heroic, just envelopes and boxes she wasn’t to look into that found there way into the hands of those to whom they were addressed. Her understanding of magic blossomed with the talismonger’s help as she learned of Druidism and shared the calling to it with Elijah. Those little lessons, given by a kind healer nurturing a sprout became the foundation that Aoi built her magic on. With her greater understanding of magic she was able to properly interact with spirits, and understand that they did not all treat her as teachings said they should. She came to understand them more as metahumans understand other metahumans, speaking to them as she would her fellows. She found her respect returned, after a fashion. Their forms also changed as her understanding grew, becoming proper and defined. Things changed when one package was given to her by an unusual contact, recommended off of one of her usuals. He was twitchy and nervous, anxious to offload the package he carried into her custody. By this point she trusted that she was better off not looking into them but she assensed the package as was normal for her and nearly dropped the box for how bright it was. Her intuition told her something was off about this but she trusted those who got her into this job, so off she went. She was about an hour from her destination when a street level runner team jumped her. The only thing that saved her from the gunshot was the sustained Combat Sense she had been running ever since she had assensed her charge. She quickly turned off her path and tried to erratically ride through the alleys she knew, calling on a spirit of beasts while she pedaled. It appeared to her summons as a smaller member of the ancient long legged bear. She asked it to hold the runners off while she escaped and stopped briefly to give it a few reagent as a tribute/payment. Then she petaled away, as hard as she could. After she told Elijah about what happened she never did a mail run for the one who recommended her to the twitchy man again. Adeptus contacted her a few weeks after that incident. Contacted as in, appeared right in front of her while she was astrally projecting over the city and nearly scared her right back into her body. Once Aoi calmed down Adeptus told her that she had seen her little run in with the runners and thought she had potential, so she wanted to give her a chance to become a Shadowrunner. Aoi hesitantly accepted and Adeptus promised a job in a week or two. Life went on and Adeptus made good on her word, appearing before Aoi outside her apartment and telling her the details, then asking for karma in exchange, which was given. Aoi's first run was nearly a complete cluster fuck. One runner was too cocky and got gunned down and the convoy nearly got away. They managed to secure the vehicle they wanted before the corpo security teams made it on site and got away. It didn't feel much better when they got to split the dead runner's share. Her second run, three months later, was more fortuitous. A simple data heist, her part was mainly using clairvoyance to scout the place out. It went down and twenty minutes later no one was the wiser as the runner team slunk back to the shadows. Her third run went pink mohawk about halfway through. Their assignment was to break into a corpo lab and destroy some incriminating samples. The getting in went like butter, until a guard that wasn't on file as an awakened assensed and spotted Greenwatch in the lobby. Things got dicey after that. The drones that had worked their way deeper into the building managed to get to the samples they needed and fried them. The ensuing combat saw Aoi get thrashed pretty bad. The team managed to escape and Greenwatch healed herself and the others as much as she could. Separating with some goodbyes and a payment she got back to her cramped apartment and locked herself in the bathroom scrubbing the blood off and using the medkit under her sink to patch what her magic didn't get. Two months later she was contacted by Adeptus again informing her that she had been invited to meet with some people about joining a shadowrunner society. Shadowhaven.

Appearance

Standing at 6'10" or 208~cm and weighing 210lb or 95~kg, Greenwatch has a lean figure. Not very physically imposing she still has a confident stance and a laid back look to her. She has a copse of trees tattoo'd on her back as a full splash.

Clothing

Normally spotted dressed in a loosely worn set of slacks with a dress shirt and a jacket. In combat she dons an armored gas mask and armguards over an armored jacket. Her tie was one of her first gifts she ever received, given to her by Elijah after she survived her first month of package running. At her hip rides a well worn and well patched large messenger bag that hold all of her running supplies. All her magic supplies are neatly organized inside, a contrast to her somewhat unkempt appearance. She wears a wig to hide her starkly red hair.
