Summary
Runners are called to a cop bar for some morally ambiguous work - the latter is normal, the former is not. Wetwork's the job, and they'll do their best with it of course.
Background
When a Halloweener reject named Chef kills a respected officer of Knight Errant at a mall riding the border between Yakuza and Triad territory, her wife wants to cook the Chef and his gang - the Snax Club - dead. The leader alone is enough, the rest are a bonus.
The Meet
Runners receive information that brings them to a cop bar - where a room full of Knight Errant officers, both on and off duty, are hanging around and drinking. Wary eyes track the runners through.
It takes only moments for the meet in the back room of the bar to go poorly. The still-weeping widow explains a small amount of the situation to the runners - and squabbling between the children of the streets and the officers who so often made their lives miserable begins. Saint flings insults, Oberon snipes away with snide remarks. Arguing heats up further - then Zenith smacks a pistol down onto the tabletop between the runners and the cops. That gets quiet and a major ratcheting of the tension - after which, the runners are able to negotiate with the officers for access to some case information to help their legwork along.
The Plan
The team does a solid chunk of research - backed by Insight's decking skills, the team's knowledge of gang turf, and an extremely helpful note from Agamemnon. They learn the following:
1. The gang lives in a shopping mall turned crime hive on the border between the Kanaga-gumi and the Black Chrysantheum Triad, meaning neither can move in to clear it. 2. They can sell drugs through there to the poorer people of Tacoma. Primarily, they push Cram, Betameth, and Novacoke. Weaker stuff and small arms are also sold. 3. There's a lot of homeless people living here, and a lot of gangs that pop up because of it. Murders are common. 4. There have been multiple officers lost trying to enter to investigate crimes. The most recent death reported was Taylor Bellenoit, a female Knight Errant detective. 5. The death of the officer was streamed to a few public media sites, though under different names and not associated to the news channels.
The lucky tip from Agamemnon though is the name of an accomplice of Chef - a man name Stevie Strikes, whose name has been associated with the Finnigan syndicate in the past. Saint fumes at the knowledge - and is eager to get another little chunk of vengeance upon them.
With information on the gang's activities, their likely supplier, and a time when they'll be meeting him, they're ready to rock - with a plan to assassinate the enemy.
The Run
Over the fence, and the mage goes in silently on foot - sneaking to the corner of the home. A quick spell to stick to the wall, and she clambers up. Into one room she goes - then invisibly she sneaks past one guard and a camera. Her luck's excellent - she finds the safe room immediately.
A close call with a tamper system inspires her to use a silencing spell to keep the guards from hearing her. Three safes later, she's secured data, nuyen, and a picture of Yamada's personal business.
Careful spellwork and footwork later, and she slips away.
Aftermath
Data is passed to Ritz - for what end is unclear.
Days later, the Yakuza will discover the missing items - but by then, Knack's away clean.
