Summary
Runners take a trip to Toronto to investigate the corp Akira Pharmaceuticals at the behest of Thurston Howell VII, looking for evidence of financial malfeasance. They find a money launderer connected with the corporation and infiltrate his house for the real numbers.
Background
For background information, see the Father's_Figures metaplot page and its associated news and runs.
The Meet
There were in fact two meets. One with Carleton Moreau, who acted as an intermediary between Shadowhaven and his brother-in-law, and a second shorter meet with said in-law Thurston Howell VII where some information was clarified and transportation was arranged.
At the first meet, Moreau explained that Howell planned to take over Akira Pharmaceuticals, but needed accurate information on the corporation's cash flow and enough evidence to file a court case against the corp (to crash their stock value). To that end, the runners would be flying to the corp's main location in Toronto to do some snooping. The flight would be covered by Howell's resources, and support on the ground would be handled by the Violi mafia family, who were promised control over the illicit parts of Akira's operations. Having accepted the job, the runners had nine hours to prepare before their second meeting and subsequent flight.
The runners started this time by having Triage fill the rest of them in on the previous runs' events, then the team started preparing. Matrix searches were run and disguises for the whole team were made. Partway through these preparations the team's Awakened detected a divining ritual used against them, and redoubled their efforts to not look like they did when the diviner caught a look at them.
The meet with Howell went smoothly. Seeking more cargo space, the team agreed to have Perdix pilot a plane with more cargo space than the chartered jet they were originally offered. More matrix searchers and disguises were made during the flight.
Once in Toronto, the runners called their first local contact, a pimp named Slick Willy who had agreed to provide a safe house and base of operations. Because their plane, while spacious compared to the alternative, did not have room for an entire car, Slick had to send one of his goons across the city with a van to pick the team up. This gave them time for even more searches and disguise crafting.
By now, the runners' legwork had identified an anomaly in Akira's corporate structure: all auditing was being outsourced to a "Lavare LLC," run by one David Mitchell. David was also known as one of the top money launderers in the region.
Finally in a safe location in their target's location, reinforced with information and alternative identities, the team buffed up Perdix so he could do a host dive targeting Akira Pharmaceuticals' main host. This gave the team the "official" finances of the corp which they could contract the real numbers with once they got those, and uncovered some correspondence between David and the corp that was used to infer information on his home's security.
The Plan
With David Mitchell in their sights as a way to prove that Akira Pharmaceuticals had been falsifying its finances, the runners called up their other local support, Maria Violi, to get the scoop on hiw David fit into the town's underworld. They learned that while David did not do any money laundering for the Violi family, he was actively working for the Violi family's rival syndicates. In other words, the runners could target him without angering their local allies, bit they would have to be careful to avoid incriminating any of David's non-Akira customers for fear of backlash. With this understanding of the situation, they aaked Maria for more details about the man himself. Maria told the runners what she knew about him, notably that he never left his home and that he was an old-fashioned money launderer who exclusively worked with physical documents--hard copies only.
The team decided that their best course of action was to enter David's home and copy the documents pertaining to Akira. To do this they planned to exploit the correspondence between David and his home's security provider Parashield, in which he repeatedly requested that they beef up his home security with paracritters.
The runners planned to pick up fake SINs and IDs for the Parashield corp, insert these IDs and backdated correspondence into Parashield's system, and enter David's home under the pretense of being Parashield employees determining if his house was viable to be upgraded with paracritter defenses. While in the house they would then seek out the documents, copy them, and leave without anyone the wiser.
The Run
First, physical and astral recon was done to prevent any surprises from popping up and ruining the plan. La Rapide, totem form'd into a bird and wearing a sensor collar, went to check out the house in-person. This confirmed that the plan was workable, as none if the defenses in place would work against the planned social infiltration.
Next, burner Parashield SINs were purchased from Triage's contact Alias.
After the fakes were set up, they needed to be put on the local Parashield's host as employees. A buffed-up Perdix managed this, along with adding the backdated message to the record. Disguises matching the SINs were made for everyone but Perdix, and everyone but Perdix climbed into a borrowed vehicle to go case David's house.
David turned out to be enthusiastic enough about his security provider finally catering to his demands that he showed no suspicion towards the runners. Their excuse of checking for paracritter allergens was enough of an excuse to have full access to David's house (their movements were tracked by household drones, but out of hospitality rather than out of paranoia), and an essence-boosted sleight of hand act from La Rapide was enough to grab the necessary info to copy. The team was able to leave the neighborhood unopposed and got the hell out of Toronto as soon as they could, returning to Seattle for the handoff.
Aftermath
Thurston would not have much time to enjoy his intelligence coup, as something bad would happen to him shortly after the run ended
