Summary

In an effort to test the Haven's members in what should be a relatively light but complex problem involving a burgeoning tech corporation, Kruger sends one of his associates to give a job offer to a number of havenites to steal data, further his own interests, and see if he can't make something of this place after all.

Background

Davidson's Technologies is a small time AA tech corporation who have only really started to come into the limelight thanks to the efforts of their newest head of R&D, and his penchant for illicit dealings alongside making legally distinct off-brands of the tech from other major corporations that they sell through said illicit channels. They mostly focused on the works of drones and other vehicle parts, improving on some while straight up ripping off others for their profit margins.

Kruger is a man who likes to keep an eye on anyone and everyone who comes into his spider web. This includes Davidson's co-founders and the new R&D head Jason Ford, but also just as importantly any business dealings they had should be reported on and either used as leverage to gain a cut of the proceeds, strongarm them into handing over their data, or simply used to sink them. Whatever is most prudent. Now, Kruger has his own men for such...dealings, but a little birdie had been talking about potential assets and worries in the Shadowhaven, and out of curiosity Kruger decided to give them...a little test run to see if they were worthy.

The Meet

Kruger sent his agent Alisa Reid out to contact the four shadowrunners, and after getting in touch with a number of fixers she landed on four: Obsidian, Huntress, Ardent, and Ninkasi. A team focused on stealth and decent enough combat capabilities with a primary focus on social and matrix infiltration. Perfect for sabotage. The meeting was simple enough, at a nice little café downtown. She set down a little white noise generator and gave them the proposition: initial research into the matrix defenses led 'her client' into believing that the data they wanted was in a data vault of some kind. Sensitive information in an air-gapped storage device off their host and the matrix as a whole to keep people from robbing them of their secrets so easily. The runners were tasked with finding the files and taking all the data for the Johnson. For the job, they'd receive 14k per person. The three socialites decided "...no that isn't enough" and eventually managed to bargain for some bioware as well on the side if they could get a one week deadline job down in just 3 days. With that little test set, Alisa made her exit and left the group to their devices.

The Plan

There was quite a research to be done on the matter. Beyond an address they hadn't received much, so the team sent Ninkasi to do searching on the matrix while preparing disguises and moving out for physically scoping out the place. Ninkasi found a number of connections, information on the co-founders Mr. Davidson and Madeline Lorelei, along with Jason Ford. They also got word from Ninkasi on the security team hired out for the buildings defense: one Piero's Defense, whom Huntress recognized as being some veterans from the Brush Wars down south who are skilled but not quite so well funded for a fresh PMC of scattered, lost souls. Physical scouting showed exact routes for how the defenses worked, probing astrally and on the matrix revealed more on the floor plans and the inner workings of the building, and the group ultimately decided to do the following plan:

- Set up a fake interview to gain access to the building, scope out the interior a little more, and on the way out sabotage some of the tech to pose as maintenance. Due to saving, efficiency, and expertise from the pmc, they used them as emergency maintenance alongside security.

- Intercept them on their linear route to the office building, using their uniforms to help build disguises to get Ninkasi in

- Obsidian and Ardent work to distract and give pretense to the facade, while finding the data vault

- Once located, Ninkasi can go in and actually extract the data.

- Exfil

The Run

The process of socially infiltrating the building went off fine with the charm from Obsidian, the suaveness of Ardent, and Ninkasi on sensor duty. They learned more about the inner workings of the facility, about how much power R&D was getting over other departments, and managed to sabotage the sensors by the entrance smoothly without being caught.

Huntress and Obsidian did a wonderful job both on the physical scouting of both Piero's Defense and the office building that held the three levels of Davidson's Technologies Offices. The two led the ambush on the intersection using a quick opening salvo and mind magic, along with Ninkasi squelching communications. The swap off was fast and rushed and Huntress managed to escape quietly before anyone could zero in on her position.

Making use of the new disguises and covering Ninkasi on the way in, Ardent and Ninkasi went up to explore the upper levels while Obsidian 'did maintenance', which was really just her putting on a distraction for the two up above. It took the pair on the upper levels some time to find the vault, but when they did, Ardent's technomancy once again came in handy in giving Ninkasi the tools she needed to get in, grab the files, and get out.

Aftermath

Ninkasi took some time to evaluate the multiple files that were on the data vault. Some were interesting - developing projects, black market dealings, things that would fetch some good nooj either selling or using as blackmail - but there was one that was simply worthless drabbles like a diary. The paranoid ramblings of one Jason Ford about people poking and prodding around the office. Odd and without context, perhaps a result of the prior probing by Alisa's client. Ninkasi ultimately decided not to use this data herself given it was explicitly the Johnson's wishes to have this, and using it herself, disseminating it, would be bad for most things a J would want them for and definitely not something that would make a client happy.

Kruger is pleased with how things went. Being able to hold black market data on the new company meant he could get to work doing what he does best, strangling them in a way to profit off of it somehow while gaining control and information. He found the Shadowhaven to be quite the force, and has taken this into account for later.

The team, of course, get paid. Thank God.

And finally, Davidson' Technologies now find themselves stuck between subservience to a crimelord, or having their own enterprises ruined forever.

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Obsidian: Fu....I have got to stop taking these kind of jobs. Corporatations targetting each other is...a reality, but my goodness.

Ardent: I found my teammates to be both affable and professional. the job itself, while obviously illegal, was not particularly discomforting.
