Summary
WIP. Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow after coffee?
Background
Swamp Fox runs the CAS branch of Fox Brigade, a MET2k affiliated mercenary group specializing in small scale covert infantry operations(milspeak for guerilla and irregular forces, training, etc.). He's dying of a rare genetic condition made worse by exposure to certain toxic chemicals in his career. He'll be dead soon. He has an ambitious lieutenant that has been arranging himself as the natural one to take command. This wasnt a threat as long as Swamp Fox was alive, since he could outmaneuver any attempt to oust him. But he wants his daughter to take command after him, and wants to give her a clean slate, without the snakes he's cultivated.
The Meet
they board a plane and meet down north of houston at a small bar. The J, Henri "Swamp Fox" Robicheaux, explains to them the job: The target is himself. He's dying, you see, and has an ambitious underling who's vying for his position. He wants his daughter to take his place, and wants to give her a clean slate, so to speak. He's arranged to be transported in 3 days. He'll be traveling in a convoy. 2 vehicles, himself and 8 others. He's pulled out Gregory Hutchinson and 3 others backing him, as well as 4 lower ranked member whose loyalty he suspects. Kill everyone in the convoy except Hutchinson. Make it look good.
The Plan
They get the route, the people, do legwork to identify good ambush locations as well as try to figure out who their J is and who their target is. They look at three good site: a school with clear visual sight lines and traffic that likely will temporarily immobilize the target. an underpass that has few sightlines, but is constrained. and an onramp closer to houston proper that has good sightlines, is constrained, but is closer to response and is likely to have plenty of bystanders.
They settle on the underpass. The plan is to ice sheet the road, immobilize the vehicles, shoot all the guys. Oberon can immobilize Hutchinson so he doesnt die, and perhaps modify memories.
The Run
ambush goes off smooth. an opening sniper shot from lanky takes out the tough dwarf driving the target's vehicle. a mysad assumes theyre trying to kill his boss, and casts an armor spell on Swamp Fox. Hutchinson pulls Solid, the dwarf, out of the driver seat and takes over. Oberon had cast ice sheet and dropped down on the roof of the vehicle. Asura aims carefully at Swamp Fox, wanting to make it a good shot. Lanky fires at the mysad, wounding him. The Librarian shuts down the lead vehicle, with the lower ranked soldiers. Oberon manages to nerve strike Hutchinson down after a few passes. as the mysad takes fire, he turns invisible. The librarian tags Swamp Fox and the mysad, oberon blind fires the mysad thanks to the tag. Asura take the shot, wiping out almost all of Swamp Fox's phys boxes, blowing half his face away. They finish the job, the grunts, failing composure rolls, try to flee but are unable. Hutchinson is memory modified to remove any suspicion that Swamp Fox didnt fight back or dodge.
Aftermath
They are able to get away quickly enough, and evade pursuit with a double-digit driving stealth success from oberon. As they arrive back at the airport, they witness a very angry female troll arguing with their pilot. The daughter is enraged, but heeds her fathers lessons, masters her emotions. She honors her father's last deal, and pays the 'runners.
