Summary

A modern twist on a classic premise - LET'S GO ROB A BANK!

Some people are utterly ecstatic over this, others are not. But when it comes to crime, the ones who always seem to profit right out the gate are the runners. And so it is here.

Background

About 3 months ago, Hellsing hired a team to help one Penelope Farina, a poor girl who wanted to get out of an arranged marriage once her secret lover went MIA. They helped her tie up loose ends, got her out of Seattle safely, and that should have been that. Unfortunately, years of immortality and time away from the runner scene proper hasn't done enough to quell Hellsing's desire to butt into other people's business. In particular, the whereabouts of said lover, one Outis Keifberg, were something she couldn't get out of her mind. But she couldn't exactly do anything about it without more funds.

Luckily, a new player coming into Seattle, a banking institute that went by Jerry and Johnson, had come from the UCAS and were trying to expand into Seattle too. And according to the former slayer's contacts, they would be doing so with Yakuza help.

So, she struck a deal with some of the Mafia to hit up a rival and stop them from getting their end of the deal by disrupting JJ's operations. Apparently the deal was going to be dealing with some gold bar transfers, a bit old fashioned but it was what this group specialized in. And that had her excited. It had been decades since she had seen an old fashioned bank heist go off. Time to get one started again.

The Meet

A late night call brought in the runners for the night. The Librarian, Rosalia, Belladonna, and Exodus. All called in by their fixers to head to the Devil's Kiss and handle business. After a few drinks are offered but professionally turned down, they're lead into Hellsing's actual place to get the situation: Hit the spot over in Renton, take those gold bars they're gonna smuggle in (to the disbelief of many in this Fiat currency world we live in), and preferably do it quietly so they don't have a swarm of KE or private security on their asses when they do the hand off at the drop off point. From the Friday of that meeting, the team had 2 days until the gold was supposed to arrive on site, and then roughly a week (though they had no exacts on when precisely they were going to be transferring the gold out of there again). Hellsing provided bags for actually carrying this stuff along with a vehicle should they have needed it, but Belladonna had her own. The original offering Hellsing gave was 10k a head to get it all, but Rosalia managed to sweet talk it up to a bonus of 4k should the team be quiet and professional about it and avoid HTR jumping down their throats. With the terms settled, the team was off.

The Plan

Like with most heists, the team had a 5 step plan to actually handle all of this

- research the place off site first, see what they can find out. Connections, floor plans, everything. - Do an on site casing of the place, find out as much as possible, learn defenses quietly before hitting the place for real - set up ways of defeating those defenses during the intervening days to set up their final hit. - actually hit the spot once the gold was there - get out quietly and make a profit.

The Run

Gathering information went smoothly enough. Rosalia's contact Brian happened to lock into the Yakuza connection these guys had, found out about their rather aggressive expansions and how hostile this company had been back over in the UCAS. The Librarian managed to find that and more- namely the floor plan and basic info on staffing and their own private security for when HTR wasn't going to respond fast enough. The team had a fair amount of time on their hands, so they had decided to move on with casing the place physically as well.

Casing was a combined effort between Belladonna and Exodus on the ground, and the Librarian on the matrix. Once it had managed to get a foothold in the host, the Librarian pointed out cameras and started working on identifying weaknesses and vulnerabilities in the defenses of the Vault, finding out what security measures they'd have to defeat and what they'd do with it the day of, even setting up a surprise tool for the cameras as well. It was thinking of possibly doing one of those for the Vault door's security as well, but considering how tightly security would be checking that for interference, they figured it would be best not to. Belladonna and Exodus meanwhile worked on finding a route through the rooftops, getting past the rather mundane rooftop defenses and noting guard rotations before finding the keycard to the vault required the manager's own unique card for entry. As the Librarian was figuring out a possible workaround, their code was bounced back on them and the host got a mark. It left the host at that point, and the two on the site had to bail, accidentally triggering the alarm at the windows but thankfully getting out unseen thanks to the tampering on the cameras before The Librarian had to bounce out. The team, disgruntled, left for the night.

The next two days, Rosalia infiltrated the Private Security Firm that J&J used for their own personal work in order to assist the team in getting the keycards needed. She successfully managed to blend in as Irene, the dutiful and rather bland elven guard who just wanted to do her damn job. Exodus also went back the Sunday before the heist itself to find and intercept the manager himself. She managed to snag the exceptionally well hidden keycard off the manager, give it to Belladonna to make a copy, and then drop it off inside again to play it off as him somehow losing it. Maybe not fool-proof, but it wouldn't blow the whole thing at once. It just had to last one more night.

The night of the heist itself went rather well. "Irene" helped get a security card over to Belladonna to add to their copies, an easy way in through the roofs to go with their newfound vault access, and then returned it with nary a disturbance noted by the security spider. They snuck in, and with The Librarian's worm implanted to force the cameras to loop, they could get into the vault rather easily to start loading it all up. Some time passed. The guards were being checked to see if they could find out why a random copy of Moby Dick had been sent to the damn camera, and Irene managed to avoid suspicion to herself. The other girls managed to get the goods loaded, and now all they needed was a way out. So with one final trick, the Librarian managed to falsify the image of an actual team coming in to the front, and due to the high tension of the security team and with a bit of luck on their side, the team found that a majority of the on site defenses were up front now. Irene kept the situation occupied out front as the other two were sneaking off the other direction, chucking their ill gotten goods over the fence and absconding under the distraction. The Librarian pulled out just fine.

Then there was Rosalia. The newbie that the on site team wasn't really sure of with the commotion of the night earlier. With the gold stolen and the institute wanting to know what went wrong, she was interrogated, and very nearly made. But thanks to her quick wits and saving graces, she managed to not be had that night. Irene then rightfully left the company that night for how mistrustful they were to someone they hired and being such bad employers.

Aftermath

The deal between the Yakuza and J&J fell through, which slowed down the growth of the corporation and made the yakuza a fair degree less wealthy.

In contrast, Hellsing and the Mafia both managed to make a bit of extra profit off this whole endeavor. Not her favorite people to work with, but now the slayer had the funds she needed to start planning that investigation. Let's hope it was worth it.
