Summary

The runners try to stop the Jarheads from finding a secret base from the early 2070s that was conducting Cyborg (Jarhead) research, and also save the Ork Underground.

Background

During the events of Jarheads!_In_The_Ork_Underground!, Renraku was searching for an old secret base underground, in addition to killing Warboss, though the runners foiled both of these. Now Renraku is trying again to find the underground base.

The Meet

Ghaz offers the runners 40k nuyen to deal with the problem, but quickly agrees to offer them double that out of 'ware or 'cowboy' supplies. He's lost at least 8 people, and more are missing, so he's not as concerned with the money and much more concerned with making sure the people of the underground are safe. Why send his own people in when he can send in some disposable assets?

The Plan

The runners decide to hunt down the Jarheads and remove the threat.

The Run

Ghaz takes the runners to a barricade some members of the Skraacha have made in the underground, and then the runners help the Skraacha dismantle part of it so they can get through. On the other side, they see what looks like 3 Jarheads which turns out to be 3 mannequins. Between them are mono-tripwires, and the mannequins are rigged with frag grenades as the runners find out when they knock over one of them. A large explosion happens, and the runners decide to continue - albeit somewhat scathed from the explosion. They hear mechanical noises coming from deeper underground, and follow them.

As the runners continue, they're constantly checking for traps, which is good as there is some more mono-tripwire at neck-height. As they go to disarm it, 3 Jarheads ambush the party and begin to attack. There's a very tense fight, and eventually the runners manage to succeed - though they are very injured. Through jacking into one of the Jarheads' drones they find information on what they're down here looking for, and where they've already searched. They use this information to narrow down where the rest of the Jarheads might be.

The runners continue, still checking for traps, and find a hallway filled with mono-tripwire. They use spells to continue, and at the end of the hallway they see a large glowing firefly (fire spirit). Surrounding it in a semi-circle are 4 more Jarheads, all with assault rifles, who open fire. The runners put up a tough resistance though, and manage to succeed! (Though some of them are unconscious at this point.)

After the fight, they jack into another Jarhead's drone and discover that they'd found the secret base they were looking for. They're able to pinpoint its location using the data from the Jarhead and a radar sensor, though they also discover that it's filled with feral ghouls.

The runners head back to Ghaz to get patched up.

Aftermath

The secret Renraku underground base conducting Jarhead research has been discovered! The Skraacha and the runners do some sweeps to make sure there are no more remaining Jarheads.

These damn things are really starting to be a pain. I really hope whatever is behind that door we found is worth it... because the sounds coming from the other side were not welcoming. At least everyone survived... bruised and broken, but alive.
