Summary

Flash Star! extralegal talent manager, Reina Taylor, contacted a team of matrix operatives in order to perform an anti-piracy operation against Mix&Match Sharing.

Background

Mix&Match Sharing took over an abandoned Stuffer Shack in early March. Having recently learned that they're pirating some of Flash Star! music, they decided to acquire their user list in order to engage in legal action. In the interest of adding additional extralegal talent to their roster, Reina requested that the runners trace the tech team working on the host.

The Meet

Dial-up reached out to Clown with a potential assignment as well as informing him to go to Basil's Faulty Bar. Radio-Head sent G-Drive a broadcast telling him that there would be a Ms. Johnson at the meet location. Reina Taylor delivered the information about the job. She informs them that they haven't been able to find the host itself as well as offering a comm code for delivery of the information.

The Plan

Clown performs a matrix search on Mix&Match Sharing and is able to find a link pointing directly at the host letting them avoid trying to spot the silent-running host. They both talk about their strengths and weaknesses before determining that G-Drive can help support Clown by cleaning their OS as well as bringing in their 'Agents.' G-Drive scans the host and determines that it is rating 2.

The Run

The team relocates to a coffin motel and move in to start gaining marks on the host. G-Drive uses Primed Charge to boost themself as well as gaining assistance from one of their sprites to get 3 marks on the host. Clown grabs just 1. They scan the host for the files and personas detecting the 3 members of the tech team. Clown acquires 3 marks on the file and begins probing the encryption and defuses the data bomb on the host access history. G-drive gets spotted by the patrol IC, but avoids performing any illegal actions in front of it. G-drive uses editor to copy the file, and they begin trying to editor and defuse the data bomb in order to get into Portfolio_L. Clown defuses it and begins gaining marks to probe it's encryption. G-Drive plants a cookie on the cowboy and uses editor to copy 2 more of the files. Clown marks and traces the 3 members of the tech team before they reconvene in their coffins to review their findings.

Aftermath

The hand off goes smoothly making the runners 12k nuyen richer and arming Flash Star! with information. With the user list, Flash Star! is able to bring a case against the users of the pirate host. Since the team was able to trace the tech team, Flash Star! is able to blackmail the 2 deckers and technomancer using their home addresses into joining their roster of extralegal talent at reduced rates.
