Summary

A group of ghouls want a building cleared out for unknown reasons. What's inside is anybody's guess.

Background

When the 162's want a building cleared out, they call in a couple of runners from outside their org. Unusual behavior for them by any means - normally, they'd refuse to work with non-infected. Maybe having one ghoul on the team is what convinced them they could work with these folks?

The Meet

Outside an abandoned warehouse in the Barrens, Johnson lays out the requirement - clear out everything in there that could shoot or harm the 162's, then you'll get paid. After a fair bit of negotiation, the party manages to arrange a bonus - 500 additional nuyen per human corpse left inside the building. Gruesome, but not unexpected for a ghoul gang.

The Plan

Scouting occurs - the building is located immediately across the street from where Johnson met the team. Things look normal enough on the matrix, but Son O' Lugh gets a worrisome audio snippet from inside - a worries man, weeping over getting his face chewed off. With no clear view from the outside and no better options, the team decide to start kicking doors.

The Run

Progress is slow and measured, Nines guiding the team along with her tactical training, Bloodletter taking point in case a ghoul is the foe the mysterious audio recording refers to. The building's largely vacant up until the third floor - where a man goes for a gun when the door is kicked open. The trio inside are set upon by the team - Nines blowing one away with a shotgun blast, Bloodletter charging in and cutting down a second, and Son O' Lugh taking down the third. In an instant, the party's MO changes - they clear the rest of the building quicker, taking down one more man who might have been reaching for a gun.

It's as they're preparing to head to the basement that an ear-piercing howl rings out. Bloodletter freezes stiff but manages to collect herself. Lugh falls to the ground, unable to move (but still able to deck). And Nines?

Nines is still ready to rock, and she starts by chucking a flashbang. A gruesome blow from Bloodletter's axe and another shotgun blast later, and the party has dispatched the critter that was terrorizing the building and its occupants.

On the way out, Lugh notes a hidden door on the matrix - but on finding that it could hit him harder than he could hit it (on the matrix), the party called it quits and collected their pay.

Aftermath

After delivering the news to Johnson, the party is paid and off to spend their hard-earned cash. A straightforward, mildly terrifying, very bloody run.

Five of Nines

Well, working with the 621s and racists aren't my cup of tea. Turns out there are people I'd rather not work with after all. As much as my reputation for killing anyone for money is, even I have standards. Maybe I'm startin' to grow as a person after all. No idea, would rather not think about it. I'll just prefer to remember the sick dodge roll I did, following up with an APDS burst to that guys chest. Wonderful combat maneuver. I'm quite the little field operative, aren't I.

Bloodletter

Nice living up to my name for once. A run that made me hungry. I was considering taking more limbs, but Johnson's already gonna seethe at losing an arm, so I just took what I need to get me through the week. Not gonna lie, the wolf-thing was actually scary as hell when it howled, but "fear" means something different with a bloody axe in your hands. Plus, cute fangs. Kept one of those for myself too. Gonna make a charming little hellhound pendant. Maybe even get someone to actually tell me what the frag that was. I understand Lugh having a thing against elves and his business is his business, but damn it felt silly being the ghoul in the room and hearing someone complain about another variety of meat.
