Summary

Ahriman's been stuck for almost a year in the Metaplane of Earth. It's not going great, but she finally manages to make contact with an outsider.

Background

See Séquence en Cascade, it's a doozy.

Running Out

Ahriman's starving and dehydrated. Most of her skin is suffering a number of abrasions in the armor due to wearing it for months on end without having time to take it off too often. Most of her life is a blur of adrenaline as her presence attracts the anger of spirits in their native habitat, running and fighting for her life on an empty stomach and passing out into a shallow, tense unconsciousness whenever she gets the chance. Short term memory is one of the first things to go and the months pass by fighting both on the outside against the spirits and on the inside against the CFD infection trying to install itself into her mind.

Path Without End

Not having much in the way of any landmarks, Yvonne continues moving forward in the rocky, quartz-filled landscape without a single idea of where she should be going. The only thing this truly achieves is keeping her on the move, preventing the spirits from closing in on her from all sides. She encounters a number of the natives, yes, but the landscape itself proves to be just as much of an obstacle. The various battery packs she has continue recharging slowly over time if left to their own devices, but she has to start siphoning power from the peak-discharge packs just to operate her suit given the lack of electric outlets of induction charging from a Matrix grid.

Rumors of Hope

Over time, she starts hearing whispers, hiding in ditches and eavesdropping on spirits or cautiously dancing around tempting offerings of a jarl fey in the area. There's a town, a settlement of sorts on the metaplane where various extraplanar travelers stop by. Thinking of the potential of meeting an astrally projecting magician from Earth there, Yvonne begins making her way there, almost getting captured by the aforementioned jarl in the process. She has to climb a tall mountain, avoid redcap-like creatures, make long grappling hook throws and rappel from one plateau to another. Every now and again, she takes too long to move and has to banish a few spirits all over again. Eventually, she reaches the peak and looks up at the mirror world in the sky, jumping up to grab the other mountain peak and get subjected to inverted gravity pulling her in the sky's terrain instead.

Eventually, however, after her systems begin failing completely and with nothing left in the tank for her jetpack to use as fuel, Ahriman finds an astral shallow in the location she heard of. By pure happenstance a rural man sees her through the astral shallows and asks if she needs help. Ahriman gives him exact contact information and message to pass on to the Atlantean Foundation before the astral shallow begins to weaken. Sometime after, a message is sent to her from the Foundation, instructing her to start making way to a specific set of coordinates for a meetup with a metaplanar rescue team.

Rewards

  • 10 karma
  • 10 CDP
  • Initiation ordeal, if desired (for surviving the solo odyssey)
  • Optional Quality: Juryrigger (for constructing an astral light transmitter)
  • May buy off Incomplete Deprogramming (for impromptu ECT on the nanites)

Narrative Consequences:

  • Ahriman makes contact with the Atlantean Foundation via Todd the Hiker from the metaplane of earth, notifying them of approximate location there and requesting immediate extraction.
  • While journeying through the plane, Ahriman finds a marker with Theran inscriptions, an incursion point by invae, and a hidden warren of demons - all of which are recorded by her suit.
  • In exchange for real food, Ahriman shares limited intelligence on the vault in Antarctic ice and the Crystalline Entities there with an Unseelie agent.
