Summary

Carolina Petrovski Is looking to cleanse her past of some less desirable history and hires a team of runners through a 3rd party Johnson to dive a Horizon foundation, access its archives, and recover/remove evidence linked to her.

Background

Carolina Petrovski has a past history with Humanis that she is hoping to make the world forget about during her run for the Governor's seat. She has attempted this with a series of civic works projects aimed to change public opinion of her. Horizon however knows better and has not forgotten who she once was and this makes her scared.

The Meet

The team met with a professional freelance Johnson, Anna-Maria Gerber in a mid end downtown bar. She was short and to the point, her client has some material sitting in a Horizon host's foundation. They wish to have this data recovered and permanently deleted from the source. Mrs J provided a "search" program with the information that the team required, this program when slotted would locate the date requested in the archive and aid the team in recovering it. She also provided basic information on the host, notably just its ID and that it was owned by Horizon. The offer for this service, 26,000Y. The team was generally accepting of the job but managed to negotiate an additional 2000Y each for the extra legwork required and general danger of a foundation dive.

The Plan

The team decided to call in some favors with some contacts and try to locate more information about this foundation, chances are if its well maintained there is an anchor in place and a team to manage it. Once inside Spider will attempt to make it to the Master Control node and be ready to calm the beast as needed, while the remainder of the team attempts to make it to the archives, extract the date. After which they will meet back up and escape.

The Run

Heracles and Delphi reached out to their data havens in hopes of finding some information out from other deckers that might have been in this foundation. They didn't turn up much on the foundation but were warned about the active security in the host itself. Meanwhile Spider reached out to a friend who was able to get much more. For a free of 5000Y he was able to provide the commcodes for the 4 member team responsible for maintaining this foundation. With this info in hand Heraclese and Nova Kid set to work cracking his deck. Distracted bot a porno trido the team made short work of this novices security. They disarmed the data bomb, cracked the file, and stole the data they needed. With Spider's help decoded they info that the yearned for. The foundation is currently anchored in a world resembling an old cartoon, Scooby Doo. Notes detailed some dos and don'ts for each of the characters seen so far as well as important information about the node structure and data trails.

With the leg work accomplished the team hacked the rather large R8 host and entered its foundation. Once inside the team was split, Spider(Shaggy) and Heracles(Scooby) landing in the Slave Control Node, and Delphi(Daphne and Nova(Scrappy) landing in the Null Node. Team A got their bearings and immediately headed to the Master Control node without incident. While Delphi and Nova got their bearings Nova made a minor mistake of barking instead of talking. This was enough to send the foundation into a blind rage viciously attacking him with all of its might. The pair fled quickly to join the others at the Master Control node in hopes of saving this doomed run.

As Team A arrived at the MC node, they noticed it took the form of an old dude ranch. A few colorful characters loitering around doing various tasks. Spider began to talk with one of them, hearing mention of some strange happenings recently and directing her to the ranch manager. Before this could happen Team B arrived in their van, narrowly avoiding dive bombing birds and suicidal pedestrians. With their arrival, the ranch scene turned all eyes towards Nova and continued the assault. Swarms of animals bashed into him while some of the ranchers took up make shift clubs and another firing his pistol. One of the characters had mysteriously gone missing however and shortly later, a ghostly creature appeared from the house shooting eye lasers. Delphi distributed a foundation form of Guts, Scooby Snacks, to the team and Heracles attempted to disarm the gun wielding nut. Nova swiftly kicked the ghostly creature knocking it to the ground while Spider grabbed its head and pulled, reveling a mask and the missing ranch hand. A moment later she was able to calm the beast and the novella continued as if nothing strange had occurred. Fearing future issues Spider and Herecles stayed behind to "guard" the captured man while Nova and Delphi advanced to the archive node.

The node appeared as an old spooky museum, inside a professor studying relics and a museum curator. The Professor complained about his in ability to examine a "cursed" suit of armor they had recently acquired. While the curator yelled at him to get back to work and stormed off. Moments later the team herd metal noises from an adjacent room and moved to investigate. Soon after they herd the professor yelling and running towards them, stuttering about ghost armor. Delphi quickly moved into action, laying a trap for the armor out of some rope and a chandelier. Nova distracted the ghostly armor while the trap was completed and sprung. Once captured the crew was able to unmask the museum curator and access the archive. Deftly Delphi recovered and delete the needed data and the team met back up and advanced to the portal node.

Once at the portal the team spotted a spooky old battle ship and a few warehouses. In one they found the creepy looking harbor master who directed them to a local business owner, and owner of the ship. The team convinced the owner to give them a tour of the ship. While on the tour the ship fell under attack from pirates, throw boxes of cargo overboard and causing a ruckus. They left the owner behind and rand to investigate. Still powered by Scooby Snacks, Spider swung down a line and kicked one of the pirates off the ship knocking him out cold. The 3 remaining pirates attacked the team scoring some hits and trapping Spider in a tire. Mean while Nova decided to produce some utensils from his hammer space and eat some of the fog. Shortly after the ghost of redbeard appeared on scene to menace the team. Nova blinded him with his hat and tied his hands with his belt while Delphi cheered the team on. Ignoring the remaining pirates Spider removed the mask of Red Beard reveling the business owner. With access to the node granted, the team each dropped an anchor to the foundation and exited.

Aftermath

Unable to resist the urge, Spider and Delphi took a peak at the recovered data. They were surprised to find it contained incriminating evidence of Carolina Petrovski involvement with Humanis as well as some of her less savory acts while an active member. Unwilling to let this data be buried, they team decided to sell it to Mothers of Metahumans who they felt would adequately distribute it to the masses. With that decision, Spider called up Phil Haskill and struck a deal. While that happened, Delphi contacted the J and spun a tail of another runner team beating them to the data. The J grudgingly bought the con and hung on up the team assuming a failed mission on their part.
