Summary

A decker from Berlin with a latent surprise in waiting, Datastream is a widower stuck in the past looking for meaning in the shadows after having been betrayed by the company he spent his entire life in.

Goals

Background

No matter how much you try, society will always exist, and with society comes corporate interest. Berlin is a great example of such, as while it didn't cease being the Flux State until 2055, - and their total removal in 2072 - corporations still had homes among the supposedly "free" people of the city. One of these many rulers is Müller-Schlüter Infotech, a subsidiary of AG Chemie Europa, and in 2052 the birthplace of one Arnulf Bauer. His parents were normal enough, or at least his father - he never knew his mother as she had mysteriously vanished after his birth. And while the world went on around him, he spent his time being indoctrinated into corporate society, living, eating, and breathing MSI. At 16 he met Adele Steiner, a girl of his age, and one who he'd end up marrying as an adult on the mark in 2070 - the same time that he "graduated" into being a matrix software developer and security decker when staff was short - he was offered a role as a security aware as he had been tested and found out he was an aware, but he never really believed it - he didn't see any spirits unless they were materialised, he couldn't look into the astral, so he didn't take it. Though it seems the world can catch up with you, garrote in hand.

2072, only 2 years married and 4 years in a relationship with Adele, Surtr would strike. The guerillas in UV-X thought they could give hell to the corps, but all they did was give them full reign to wipe them out of Berlin so that it would be a massive corporate controlled mess - but they did manage to give hell to Arnulf. He was home that day when his wife was out shopping in a place beyond the arcology, and all he can remember of that day is sneakily running to where she was when he heard a nanoweapon had gone off, - adorned in safety gear - holding her in his hands, and watching the life fade from her eyes. However, he still had to go to work, as there was no time to grieve - they had finally kicked the anarchists out of Berlin, and MSI had been given a section of Berlin to own. Even this wouldn't be able to be enjoyed by him for long, however.

3 years had gone by, with him being promoted to a full SPIDER instead of an occasional fallback when the matrix security personnel were lacking members. He had given sweat, blood, and tears to the corp to earn this. However, Shadowrunners are a different breed, a type that left him spinning digitally and physically, and whatever run they were doing they did, snatching up valuable paydata right under his nose. When it was discovered the data was gone, of course, it was the SPIDER who'd take the fall, despite the fact that his boss was working with the runners to deal with a competitor inside the company. He was called the traitor, and so he was fired on the spot, his SIN demoted to Limited - but still corporate, specifically just so that they can take tax money from him. He had nothing left in Berlin, and so, with his last remaining savings, he fled across the sea to Seattle in search of something, anything at all.

When he arrived, he knew his skills would only serve him in two places - corporate life or shadowrunning. He could either repeat his past, just waiting for runners to get him fired again, or he could have a slice of the shadow pie, experience a life with no deadlines, no clocks, no bullshit, just pure nuyen. He didn't need a purpose, he could drift in the nuyen and let cash set him free. He ended up picking the path of the criminal, being a decker who eventually ended up in the ShadowHaven, unsure of what his life was or would become, devoid of purpose and simply looking for something to spend his time with and something to get him paid.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

Latent Dracomorphosis - Datastream is a Western Drake who belongs to Lofwyr. However, at the moment, he believes he is simply a mundane - potentially spark - human.

Aware - Funnily enough, despite his classification, Datastream is unaware of his awakened nature. He is unable to assense for the moment, leaving him to believe that everyone who tested for his magical potential is either wrong or overestimating what he can do.

Negative

Inconvenient Dependence (Simsense relationships that he hacks to replace the other person with his dead wife) - Unable to move on from the death of his wife Adele, he uses his decking skills to mod simsense chips to contain her, so he can feel that she is still with him despite having died in 2072.

Limited Corporate SINner (Müller-Schlüter Infotech) - Taking the fall for his boss's betrayal, Datastream used to have a full Corporate SIN with AG Chemie Europa but it was demoted to Limited when he was fired so that they could deduct more taxes from him. He might not be able to work for them anymore, but they'll drain whatever they can from him, and he can't seem to burn this SIN to get free.

Outspoken Prejudice (Anarchists) - They were the ones who took Adele from him - it might've been UV-X that detonated Surtr, but all anarchists stand for such wide spread death and destruction, at least in Datastream's mind.

A bit of a personal vendetta is to be expected from such a terrible treatment of a pretty skilled SPIDER. And, if the corp needs deckers to throw at a problem, a bag over his head isn't an impossibility.
Aspect 2	Long Lost Lenore	His wife Adele Steiner died during the attack by UG-X in 2072, and he hasn't been able to move on. People who knew her or who mock her are both of great interest to him, though for different reasons.
Aspect 3	Law and Order	A staunch opponent of anarchy after the use of the nanoweapon Surtr in 2072, chances to put anarchists in their place - especially the more violent types - are greatly appreciated by the decker.
Aspect 4	Guten Tag, Seattle!	An immigrant from Berlin, Datastream is a German. While he has a bad taste in his mouth due to MSI, heading back to home for a run or two is an interesting prospect to him.
Aspect 5	Mama's Family	His mother, a drake servant of Lofwyr, was taken back into Saeder Krupp after giving birth to Datastream. If the wrong pieces fall into place, Lofwyr might just know about another one of his servants being out in Seattle. That, and Datastream is quite interested in figuring out who his mother was.
