Character Information

Summary

Childhood dreams (literally) crushed by a terrible car accident, Lumina Reyes was rebuilt by her parent's money and surgeons skills, before being told to become doctors like them and to give up on the dream of paracritter hunting.

One doctorate later, and a shitty clinic in Redmond, Reyes decided it's never too late to chase a dream. And shadowrunning pays for clinic bills quite well.

Goals

  1. Pay off clinic
  2. Don't Renew DocWagon contract
  3. Form PMC with Ghostwire
  4. Become rad paracritter hunter like Jebediah Morrison would've wanted.

Background

Born on Valentine's Day 2056, Lumina Reyes was loved by her parents from the beginning. Well off, but humble, Lumina was raised in a public school in Florida, just in range of the Caribbean League and CAS border enough to get an education visa there as a child. There, they attended with the boy who would become their lifeline throughout their school days. Jebediah Morrison and them were inseparable, playing cowboy bounty hunters inspired by paracritter hunting shows on TV and a youthful urge to explore biology.

It wasn't until they were 13 when Reyes had the urge to go fast that their paracritter drive took a new path. Wheels. Drifting became their main hobby, and while the paranormal still occupied the forefront of their mind, rigging had become Reyes' new love. Street racing became commonplace, but their parents were patient - they paid for the tickets that Lumina racked up, and even then, they often paid their parents back with the winnings from how fast they were going. Lumina's biggest edge, though, was her control rig. Going fast as hell was the dream, and boy howdy they were living it. All this, and they still kept close with Morrison, at least. Until he disappeared.

One week later, the accident happened.

Lumina doesn't remember what happened leading up to it, where they were slow on the turn, or when they started digging that pit for the new highrise, but one thing was certain. They lost a lot in the crash. Their control rig, their arm, their leg, their eyes. Their eardrums were punctured. It was a miracle that they even survived. But they did, and they were given two choices: get the control rig back, but live their life in a wheelchair, or lose rigging entirely and be able to walk and run again.

Lumina chose freedom. To go fast as a car, sure most riggers would have chosen that. But Lumina wasn't a fan of living life needing wheels to go get groceries. To deal with the ridicule of living in a wheelchair. To have stairs be their mortal enemy! No! Reyes would not live with the indignity. And so they chose to go with the cyberlimbs and ears, and eyes. However, ever the eccentric Reyes made one demand. "I want a sick-ass robot dog body." Their parents acquiesced, but only if they went to uni to become a doctor or lawyer like they were.

Their path took them through college, back in school without their one friend that kept them tethered to reality. The drive to be a paracritter hunter ever marked into their robot dog chassis, they 'yearned' for the freedom of wealth they'd get at the end of it all.

They got it. But licensing fees, student debt, dual citizenship to get sent off to Seattle - the emerald city of fortune - all of it turned that rich freedom, into the chains of poverty. In Seattle, though, they met Lane, the man who started as a patient for both physical and psychiatric care and eventually turned into their partner - business and romantically.

More time passed, and the end of the DocWagon contract they're on started to draw close, and Dr Reyes was left with only one choice if they wanted to hold onto the clinic they worked so hard to run for Touristville.
