Summary

Heather is a dwarf, a druid, and a veteran of the CAS military (not necessarily in that order) who is using her experience with military magic to work in the shadows in the hope of picking up practical casting and summoning tricks from shadowrunners.

Background

Heather was born as Maeve Ryan to two career military parents in the Confederated American States. Due to the constant moving required by their job, Maeve's parents often left her with her maternal grandmother, a human arcane researcher who, despite being mundane, was a practicing Druid. Maeve learned the basics of arcana and Druidism under her grandmother before she Awakened, learning which increased in speed when Maeve Awakened early at twelve. Maeve spent even more time with her grandmother after this, learning from her and her many associates how best to channel "Awen". Maeve's grandmother passed when Maeve was sixteen and Maeve's training in magic ceased for the most part. Her training resumed whenever she entered the Army, although it had a much more practical and lethal direction. Maeve formed close connections with those in her unit, which made losing them to a barrage of explosive projectiles sent by the opposing Aztlan forces. Maeve left the service soon after this event. She worked briefly as an arcane bodyguard until she discovered a letter from her grandmother which told Maeve to go to Seattle to continue practicing her magic. Soon after she arrived Boar, her mentor spirit, offered to help her learn more about magic and how connecting with the land can help with her magic, even if the land in question was the Redmond Barrons in the metroplex of Seattle.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

  • Focused Concentration 1: Heather isn't the most skilled at maintaining spells, but she has trained enough to at least keep up a minor boost to her reflexes with little trouble.
  • Home Ground (You Know A Guy): Even though Heather hasn't lived in the Barrens for long, Boar has helped tutor her in interacting with those who live who live in her territory, granting her friends, or at least respect, from her neighborhood.
  • Mentor Spirit (Boar): Boar offered Heather direction and grounding in a time of her life when she felt like she was drifting and is teaching her how to better request assistance from spirits.
  • Sensei (Conjuring): Mint has offered her assistance to Heather, helping her to learn how best to convince Druidic spirits to assist her.
  • Spirit Affinity (Plants): Heather has always loved growing things and her connection to the spirits of plants only increased as she Awakened. The fact that her grandmother who taught her about Druidism focused on plant spirits in her studies probably doesn't hurt either.

Negative

  • Flashbacks II (Explosion Trigger): Heather blames herself for the death of her fellow soldiers to Aztlan explosives and explosions bring back that memory.
  • Reduced Sense (Hearing): The same attack also blew out Heather's eardrums, permanently damaging her hearing.
  • SINner (Confederated American States): Heather is a Texan born, bred, and tracked by the good old CAS.
