Summary

Shines are being held hostage by annoying party-goers! They cry out for liberation! Only the swift paws of Geoff Montgomery XLII the Raccoon can save them! So long as someone provides a decent distraction...

Background

The runners are summoned for a simple job to infiltrate a party at a car show and distract the assembled crowd long enough for a car jacking raccoon to make off with the "shines!"

The Meet

Each runner received a call from their respective fixers, alerting them to the possibilities of a job out in Auburn. Details to be delivered by the client. Said "client" turns out to be an enthusiastic and mildly-kleptomaniac racoon named Geoff Montgomery XLII the Raccoon. He wishes to hire the runners to infiltrate a party of upper crust corp-kids at the grand opening of a fanciful car show. While the guests are suitably distracted, Geoff will make off with the prized vehicles, and anything else he can get his paws onto. Simple enough.

The Plan

Queen initiated a comprehensive matrix search, discovering the party would be a costume ball, no real major theme, and busied herself in locating as much information on the various targets as possible, seeking a way to distract them. The idea to weaponize the homeless was offered, but turned down for being too ridiculous. Meanwhile, Janus and Pell, having experience in crafting disguises and high fashion respectively, set about arranging everyone's outfits, with Pell programming a new synthskin face mask for Janus. It was decided the less socially capable members of the team would pose as bodyguards, the better to sell their standoff-ish behavior, while Janus and Pel would pretend to be important corp-kids. The hope was with so many young and entitled people grouped together, there would be some social fractures the runners could exploit to cause the party to implode. Failing that, they'd fake a heart attack.

The Run

All disguises passed muster, and after a little tag team conning by Janus and Pell, the Runners where granted access to the party. Janus and Pell detached themselves from the rest of the group and began a full charm offensive on the crowd, while their "bodyguards", Queen and Lungmen, hung back, waiting for a signal. While moving through the crowds, Janus kept his ears on for any gossip that could be exploited for conflict. And oh did he. With a few well placed words and "innocent questions" prompted by this new found information, Janus and Pell successfully started a massive brawl in the middle of the party. At this exact moment, Queen signaled the J to move in on the package, while Pell feigned a heart attack, adding to the confusion and allowing the team to exfiltrate swiftly and uncontroversial from the party. On the way out, as a parting favor, Janus dosed a random drink with some Woad, just in case a little more chaos was needed.

Aftermath

With the party a complete wreck, the team returned to their prearranged rendezvous with Geoff Montgomery XLII the Raccoon who happily showed his newly acquired "shines" to the Runners. Offering them first choice on the loot, the party collected their payment of ill-gotten gains and returned to the shadows from whence they came.

Game Quotes

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Janus: Why are the shadows like this? No really, someone explain it to me. Ever mission I have seems to involve tripping over my neon speckled team members, half of whom are infected! All while trying to infiltrate a dockyard covered in hostile elementals, or a megaplex, or a car show! All so a talking racoon can steal a car... Can racoons even drive? Is this how it always was? Well, I suppose I shouldn't complain. Ever mission I've touched has turned out perfectly. Still, no closer to my true goal though... And I likely just jinxed my own good fortune to boot.
