Summary

A group of runners are given a job by a Halloweener to blow up a transport carrying Lofwyr plushies. Hijinks all around.

Background

Late last March, within one of the colder regions of the Earth, Saeder-Krupp did something that tanked their reputation. In efforts to patch over that mess, its PR team has taken to the mass production and selling of Lofwyr plushies. A newer Halloweener on the block, Firewolf, wants to see the shipment headed for Seattle blown up.

The Meet

Called from their respective corners of Seattle, Firewill, John, Claw, No Significant Harassment, Overhaul, and Grackle arrive at a location in northern Redmond to meet the J, Firewolf. After a minute of the gang introducing themselves, Firewolf appears and gives his pitch. He wants the runners to blow up a shipment headed to central Downtown. It's heading in from I-90, along the border between Redmond and Renton, heading all the way through until it reaches a toy store named Todd's Toys. After a bit of questioning, the group is told that he doesn't care how it's done, so long as it makes a scene. Kill who they want if they want, but get the job done in a flashy way. He's willing to pay ten thousand dollars as well as give magical equipment, but the group manages to haggle him for fifteen thousand and for some fire-based equipment as well.

This doesn't sit right with everyone, though. Overhaul, initially unaware that this was Halloweener business, and upon hearing a few members of the crew express no care toward the lives of lowly wage-slaves and delivery truck drivers, said that he wasn't feeling it. The group attempted to accommodate, slightly, but with his uncomfortable feeling regarding Halloweeners he chose to back out.

After that, the crew looks at their options, calls up some contacts, and tries to get something vaguely resembling a plan set up. In addition, Firewill gets to making a very, very explosive bomb while Grackle and Claw summon spirits.

The Plan

After a bit of talking, the plan is made rather simply:

The gang would arrive in NSH's flying invisible boat, where it will hover over the transport truck and latch on, hooking a winch onto it so John and Claw can slide down. Dispatch any hostiles, set up the explosives, and make their way out. With the knowledge of helicopters and Knight Errant likely being nearby, Grackle's palefire spirit would attack and distract the pilots if any approached. Any oppositional spirits would also have to be left to Grackle, Claw, and their spirits. Lifting the truck way high in the air, they'd drop it and mid-fall Firewill would detonate the explosives, completing the job. After that, they'd lie low along the bank of the lake Sammamish for a few hours before heading back to receive their pay.

The Run

Shockingly, it went as smoothly as the plan was set, with one slight hiccup. Drones. The Boat latched on and placed the winch as Mitsuhama Malakims emerged from the truck. With their vehicle hidden, the runners were able to get a good few shots off (or a sword slice in Claw's case), destroying half of the drones before and during Claw's descent. As she stepped foot on the top of the transport, a guard from within the passenger side of the vehicle climbed his way onto the front, taking a few shots but being unable to land a hit. After receiving a shot from John and getting his mind controlled by Grackle, it was easy pickings for Claw to make her way and cut him nearly in half, his body sliding off and falling onto the highway.

With all hostiles dispatched in the immediate area, Firewill tosses a cargo bag filled to the brim with IEDs. Luckily they were able to coordinate and John and Claw did NOT blow up. With John placing it down and duct taping it to the top, both of them climbed back up onto the boat and it began to fly upwards slowly. John called his contact, Toro, to get him to look at the explosives in the far-off distance, but instead received word that a helicopter was making its way and that mages have them located. Hearing this, NSH pushed the limit of her boat's speed. In the meantime, Grackle's and Claw's spirits noticed spirits approaching the vessel, resulting in a fight on the astral which was easily won.

With the boat sufficiently high up, NSH detached the truck. Soon after, Firewill pressed the shiny red button and blew it up - a massive explosion of many different colors as well as completely destroyed Lofwyr plush fluff floating in the sky.

Aftermath

Flying off, the crew hid low for a small while before making their way back to the J. He was exceptionally pleased with everyone's work, showing up with flamethrowers-aplenty and contact details for magical goods for those who desired it. Additionally, he passed off a note to Firewill - Halloweener business - which caused the two to grin at each other. Something seemed to be in the works, but that would be a secret left to them. With Firewolf leaving, the group decided to head to a Taco Temple to grab a bite and celebrate their success.

A question, however, remained in absolutely no one's mind... What else was in the truck? Was it truly just plushies? If so... why the high-availability drones?
